Personally I think I'd suggest the ASUS, but it's moderately tough decision. I don't think either option is a great one, but they certainly aren't bad for the price. The ACER's screen may end up looking a touch better because they are the same resolution but the ACER screen is slightly smaller, but then the smaller screen may be an issue depending on what you are wanting to do. I multitask so much, I won't do less than the full size 15.6" standard myself.
In the end, the reason I go with the ASUS is the fact that, while I know both brands, I trust ASUS more. I've been using ASUS products for nearly 2 full decades now, and the only one time I ever had an issue was with a laptop (and really, that wasn't on ASUS, it was an HDD failure, so it falls more on the HDD manufacturer than them). They had STELLAR customer service, and got me RMA'd, totally sorted out, and I had my laptop back in about two weeks, which was amazing considering the shipping times. You'd have to check on that particular model, but another thing I love about ASUS is their warranties are usually pretty great too. Like my laptop was listed as having a 1 year warranty when I bought it, but when I got it the warranty pamphlet told me that if I registered it through their website within 30 days, the warranty was extended to 2 years, and the first year would include accidental damage coverage.

I haven't bought a laptop in years (2006 in fact) so you'd all be better in the know than me...
I'm thinking of getting this laptop:
Acer Aspire V5-431P-21178G50MASS
(EDIT2: Thanks to your friendly suggestions, here's another possibility:
An ASUS laptop )
Specs on the Acer:
14" (1366 x 768) Resolution with Touchscreen, Intel 2117U 1.8Ghz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVD-RW, Windows 8 64Bit
(Integrated Graphics card)
Anyone know what sort of games this could handle? I'm not expecting Crysis on integrated graphics (I have a gaming desktop with enough grunt for that) but I'm hoping to at least be able to run indie games, maybe things like Super Meat Boy, Shank, Minecraft, Terraria etc. Would it run things like Half Life 2 or other older 3D games? Simcity 4 maybe?
Does "Intel HM70 Express Chipset" tell you anything?
Any other advice or comments are much appreciated!
EDIT: After watching the video in the link, I noticed they really put the touchscreen feature front and centre in the ad. Actually the touchscreen functionality is of no or little use to me so don't assume it's the reason I picked this one out. It's more the price actually!
As a thank you, here are some giveaways!

Sonic CD (0.01CV)
Sonic Spinball (0.01CV)
