Did you have a game you used to play in your childhood?
N64 - Super Mario 64 (the first game I ever played/finished, started when I was 4 with help from my dad), Yoshi's Story, Bomberman 64
SNES - Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat II, Yoshi's Island
PC - Putt Putt games, Zoombinis
Gameboy - Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Pokemon Red/Blue
I have loads more, but those are the ones that really stand out that I played and loved when I was very young.

My first game was The Neverhood, and it turned out to be quite a challenge for a 12-year-old. Then there were Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Sanitarium, Blackstone Chronicles and others - and I hopelessly fell in love with adventure games.
I've also spent a lot of time with Civilization 2, Doom 2 and Age of Empires during my early teen years, and a bit later there were The Sims, of course.

I forgot to mention super mario land and super mario land 2: six golden coins for the gameboy. but WOW!!!! So many people responding!!! thank you all for putting in your favorite childhood or first games! it really does mean a lot to me when I see this many people replying to a simple post! When I was a child, all we had was an old macintosh that didn't even have internet until about 2001, when we got dial-up (who else remembers the call sounds XD) we didn't have any consoles, so I was really sad to see so many friends talk about the new GameCube and they were saying that they have soo many games. I didn't even get a GameCube until the wii was out and we didn't get a wii until it was basically dead :/ so PC games have been big in my life ever since I can remember. But once again, Thank you guys for putting your opinions and your favorite games! :D

SEGA Mega Drive: Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Aladdin, Tiny Toon Buster's Treasure, Battletoads(& Double Dragon), Road Rash; PC: Duke Nukem 3D, Doom 2, some of the older Hugo games.
Didn't have any other consoles, and I only got a decent PC (not straight from 1997) in 2010.

On my 48k Spectrum my fondest memories are probably of Jet Set Willy, Head Over Heels and Daley Thompson's Decathlon - which ruined many joysticks. I had an Atari ST after that and I enjoyed playing a lot of multiplayer games with my school friends including Gauntlet II and Kick Off although Captive became my main obsession. I got a SNES when I got my first part time job at a video game store and especially enjoyed Street Fighter II Turbo, Super Mario Kart and Super Probotector (Contra III to Johnny foreigners). When I go my first full time job I bought a 486 PC and spent too much time on Doom, Magic Carpet, Comanche Maximum Overkill and Elder Scrolls: Arena. Things probably started to go downhill after that...

First computer game I really got into had a depth that was unmatched in its day, it was called Trade Wars, and was a MULTIPLAYER text-based space trading/combat game that included procedural generation of the universe, which would create a variety of sectors: trade lanes, wormholes, dead ends, etc. one long term goal was to find a dead end sector and use some genesis torpedoes to make your home planets etc:)

Knightmare and Ye-ar Kung Fu for my old MSX.
Phantasy Star for the Sega Master System.
Space Quest I and II for PC (back in the 486 days)
About MDK: My cousin had the 1st PS. He left it with me for a week and I literally threatened him when he said he was coming to get it back because I hadn't finished MDK. The original game was GORGEOUS while the Steam port is hideous. What's that texture pack you mentioned? Never heard of that, where can I find it? Also, it's nearly impossible to play it without a controller (my case).

Woah, almost forgot Tron Deadly Discs for the Intellivision II. It was amazing. I only had two games for the Intellivision because I bought it in Norway and then my family moved back to Brazil. There was no way I could find games for it here.

There's two that come to mind:
Warsong - Seriously, I had a Sega Genesis that I couldn't save my game on. For some reason, everytime that I saved or tried saving it wouldn't ever register. So, playing this game, I literally left my Sega running for weeks until I finished this game. I absolutely love it. Went back and played it a few years back again for the good feeling. :)
EVNova - You can ACTUALLY download a FREE trial of this one here.. This one's basically a space simulation game. You start off with a peasant ship and from there can visit a hundred or so planets and start off as a space merchant selling goods or a pirate raiding ships. You can attack a ship, disable it and there's a chance you can add it to your fleet or take the goods on it. It's really fun. There are storylines you can venture down too. You can be part of the "Confederates" which are considered the goverment and do missions for them. Rising in the ranks. Or join the "Rebellion" who are trying to overthrow Confederates. There are others too, but no spoilers :D HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

E.V. Nova was one of the best games! there was a way to mod it, and my brother even added his own missions to the game!

So I was talking to my brothers yesterday, and we got on the subject of technology. We started to talk about games, and we talked about a game I have not seen in years... MDK! for those of you who don't know this game, it is probably one of the best 3rd person shooters, and a great classic! I remember playing this game when I was 3 or 4, and now I am 18 reliving my childhood! The game is on steam, but you have to get some stupid texture pack in order for it to work. gog.com has it working right off the bat and its $6 instead of $10. Basically, I want to ask you guys, what was your childhood game(s) or games you played that introduced you to the video game realm? Mine were MDK, nanosaur, and E.V Nova.
