My friends claim that they are true gamers and disagree if anyone has a different opinion to them on games are now saying that Assassin's creed 3 is THE ultimate stealth game and that there are no better stealth games out there. I have put up with their COD nonsense for their favourite games are always the latest COD. I could stand that but because my favourite genre of games is stealth I for some reason can't stand that the say that Assassin's creed 3 is THE ultimate stealth. I said to them about metal gear solid but they say that that's rubbish for stealth and that the story sucks (UUGH). I said to them about the original splinter cell games but they said that all you do in that is hide in the dark and that it hasn't got enough stealth elements in it (UUGH). I am not saying that Assassin's creed 3 is a bad game at all but it isn't the best for stealth at all, would some people please like to prove my friends wrong :D

Himtman, Thief series, deus ex, mark of the ninja, batman, Metal Gear Solid Series,(Metro 2033, you cold pass parts of the game by stealthing and there are some parts where you have to stay low and avoid contact by stealthing)

All these games are better Stealth games than AC O.o

Assassins creed is to stealth as Halo 3 is to a realistic military simulator

To be honest, ass creed was alright at first. Now... We could say that it's the COD of it's kind. your friends deserved a death penalty for saying that splinter cell and MGS series suck. Hang them upside down with justin bieber's music on the radio for 12 hours.

Assassins Creed is not a true stealth game, have them play one of the thief games or splinter cell chaos theory (though they probably would "too old")

kill your friends.

the bad: it's kind of boring because for half of the game the devs felt it nessesary to have a tutorial for bloody everything in the game. "desmond look up" "great job! your face works!" now do this activity for 30 minutes, great job! now do this mechanic that you will never see again for the rest of the game! awesome!"

the good: the game looks pretty great on the pc, it's an optimized port. the voice acting is great, running through trees makes you feel like a boss, the environment looks amazing, boston is painstakingly recreated to look like the 1700's version, and it's not all "gung-ho 'murica" like the commercials make it seem.

stealth is hardly present though: just the blend mechanic for bushes and crowds (which are like moving bushes that you hide in!)

As soon as you said their favorite games are the CoD games, I stopped reading, because there's your answer.

Just let them be! lol People who think COD is the best fps and AC3 is the "Ultimate Stealth" really have NO idea what they're talking about. Ignorance is truly bliss.

Assassin's Creed isn't even a stealth game. It just has some minor stealth elements in it. Your friends are idiots.

If their favorite games are COD ,they are not true gamers and they have no idea what stealth it.

Also Big Rigs is a realistic simulator.

There is nothing stealthy about Assassin's Creed. It's all about running on trees and stabbing people. Your friends are trolling you.

It's almost as stealthy as FIFA 2012

Tell them to play Dishonored without being found nor killing anyone in the process.

I have to admit that I've only played the previous Assassin's Creed games and, even though I liked them, I never felt that I was playing a stealth game. They usually feature some form of combat before or after you kill your target and you're never really able to go in and out of a mission truly unseen. Or maybe I was playing them wrong.
As someone who didn't have the chance to play the Thief series or Deus Ex back in the day, I have to say that finishing Dishonored without killing anyone felt so good.
Of course, your friends don't consider Splinter Cell or Metal Gear stealth games, so maybe you should just give up trying to change their mind.

AC games are parkour mass murder simulators, NOT stealth games, that's my biggest beef with the series as I naive me, I actually expected a stealth game.

For a game to be considered stealth there simply has to be focus on stealth. Bonus points for game mechanics supporting stealth other than breaking line-of-sight.

While AC games have some mechanics supporting stealth, they are in most part quite ridiculous, essentially amounting to hiding in plain sight and magically projecting veil of utter retardness on enemies. One could argue it's similar to some invisibility/stealth cloaking in other games but it just doesn't feel right. The highlight is hiding in a haystack and doing a surprise execution from there.

But they sorely lack focus on stealth, even though some missions require you not to be seen it just feels so forced. Normally there is absolutely no incentive to sneak around. You are more efficient killing whole army rather than trying to hide from one dude. And it's not like you spend any hard to replenish resources doing the killing.

So you are pretty much never in real danger, don't have to conserve resources, don't gain anything from not being seen unless scenario for some reason artificially forces you to. All you have are some stealthy gimmicks to label the games "stealth". That's simply not enough.

Note I haven't actually played AC3 yet (single player anyway), but did play AC1, AC2 and sisterhood. And from what I've seen I don't really expect AC3 to be all that different.

Nope. It's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Hitman: Contracts. And Thief-series.
PS: And perhaps StarCraft: Ghost. ;)

Haven't played neither thief nor ac3, but if splinter cell is a stealth game then assassin's creed series is no.

EDIT: ask your friends what do "stealth" mean for them

If a game does not use a cardboard box as a effective hiding place, it is NOT a stealth game.

If they call themselves True Gamers, they're idiots, especially if they don't play absolutely ANYTHING, including card games and PNP games like Dungeons and Dragons.

As for stealth, I'd suggest S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but just on Wednesday there were bandits running into me and not detecting me, then me being stealthy with an AK-74. So the stand-bys of Thief, Deus Ex, Splinter Cell-the old ones-, and other such games. Stealth is a nearly dead genre, however, outside of indie games.

I would say no. Too easy to get away with stuff when you are spotted, but like Hitman and Splinter cell there is always the option to do it completely stealthy.

when I think stealth I think Thief - by far the best stealth game I've played (have never played Metal Gear / Splinter Cell so have to defer to those that have if more or less)

And there are some missions in Return To Castle Wolfenstein that are more stealth-critical than a lot of so-called stealth GAMES - the base where you have to go around the perimeter to each watch tower and take it out without being detected by the others then sneak into the base all in broad daylight is simply beautiful (just a f'ing cool game all around - except for the damn end fight, (id assholes)). So, yeah I think you can confidently tell yer buddies they don't know what the hell they're talking about.

There's just no need to prove anything to someone who claims COD is their favourite game, haven't they played (and i do mean PLAYED, not heard) of Splinter Cell, Hitman Blood Money, or Thief at least?
