Assassin's Creed games (at least the 2 I've played) have 0 stealth involvement at all. You can stealth if you want, or you can just walk up and stab people in the face. Or throw a sword into their head. Or a spear through them.
Nothing stealthy in AC if you don't want it to be.

That's not entirely true. There are numerous missions you can't complete without remaining undetected (IE perfect stealth). Plus stealth is often an advantage, like against the Borgia towers in Brotherhood otherwise their captains will notice you sooner and flee, at least the coward ones. Again in Brotherhood every single DaVinci mission has at least a part of it that requires perfect stealth.
But yeah, lots of the time it's more of an action game since you'll spend a good deal of time not doing missions and there are also plenty missions which don't even allow for a stealth approach.

True, but by that logic other action games have stealth sections as well. For example Fallout / Elder Scrolls series you can be sneaky/stealth in both but both are primarily action games. Granted the stealth in Bethesda games can be a bit screwed up in that you can 'hide' directly in front of an enemy at high enough levels but up till then it is stealth if you want to play that way.

Well by my definition as soon as stealth is required (I mean perfect stealth, as in remain undetected completely or fail the mission) at any point and/or a large part of the game can be played in perfect stealth AND the game provides some sort of aid for a stealth experience (perks to detect enemies for instance) then it fits the bill of being a stealth game, or at least has the ability to be a stealth game if that's how you want to play.
And that means AC3 gets a pass as well BUT it's less stealthy than it's predecessors and dozens of other games so calling it ultimate stealth is utterly ludicrous.

Deadly shadows is the third game. Thief 2 is the metal age.

if they would at least have named a previous AC game...
Also add the Batman games to the list of games. Against the the armed thugs you have to go stealth, plus there are various bits of the game you can't pass without stealth.
Heck...Skyrim can be played with more Stealth than AC3...

Just completed batman, awesome game. It has got some stealth in but a lot of the time it doesn't, so I wouldn't say that is the ultimate stealth game

sure it's not the ultimate stealth game, I merely meant it has more stealth elements than AC3...or at least as many.
I have no idea what the ultimate stealth game would be because ultimate stealth (IE perfect stealth needed at all times) is just too much stress, especially in old games that don't exactly make that easy thanks to being "clunkier" (IE control is more rigid).
I'm more biased towards new games like Dishonored or Splinter Cell - Conviction which provide you with numerous stealth aids and greatly encourage stealth play (other than the flashback mission in Conviction) but don't completely ruin your life when you slip up.

It got as much stealth as the crysis series at most.

Show him Thief 1-2-3 or Splinter Cell 1-2-3 Those are realy good stealth games :)

You should have bitch slapped them.If we're taking only the gameplay aspect then I dare to say Ass Creed is just as bad as COD.Two buttons for combat, one for platforming. It's literally "press x to be awsome".Ungodly boring and easy.

These guys sound like they suck at knowing what is good. I hope you show them this internet response. Assassins Creed is fun, but it is not really a stealth game... the multiplayer is a different story.

Hitman Absolution..An okay game but omg if you mess up one bit you lose points so that will force you to become stealth :3

lol, don't get me wrong it is a great game, but the ultimate stealth game? hahaha. Anything from the original splinter cell games, to theif, to mark of the ninja, to metal gear solid, to hitman is countless times more stealth focused.

Although I like all the other recommendations too (because that's what this thread is because the OP's friends are obviously either non-existent or pet birds), possibly the most fun I've had with stealth tactics would be in Jagged Alliance 2. Camo, under cover of night, silenced pistols and rifles (never seriously tried a suppressed shotty), staying out of the sight line, using smoke grenades, trying not to trip alarms, setting up distractions (throwing rocks, remote or time-delay explosives, etc.), nearly always using the extra energy to be in "Z" stealth mode, running like hell (making all kinds of noise...), usually being crouched, and sometimes just crawling in the dirt, hand-to-hand combat, throwing knives, and regular knives (and that machete for taking heads...), night vision goggles, extended ears, break light sticks, the occasional tear or mustard gas attack (with a gas mask for yourself of course), lock-picking doors, and an absurd amount of quicksaving and quickloading. (Cold-loaded ammo was before my time, but if you're playing the 1.13 mod, there's that too.)

I never found enough Suppressors to be stealthy in my attempts, though those were mostly early-game, due to my hilarious uselessness at SRPGs. I did find it thrilling to position everyone to wipe out a large mob or enemies with a surprise attack, though.

dishonored is pretty stealthy. I have to do a lot of save and load to finish the game at low chaos. Plus it is almost impossible to complete the game without stealth. If you go loud, the AI of this game will track player's position down. Especially in higher levels, when you deal with tall guys, there is almost no way you can kill multiple tall guys at once. Plus the potions have limited carrying capacity. As for AC series, I never think stealth is the main key of this game. the ULTIMATE part is a bit exaggerated.

My friends claim that they are true gamers and disagree if anyone has a different opinion to them on games are now saying that Assassin's creed 3 is THE ultimate stealth game and that there are no better stealth games out there. I have put up with their COD nonsense for their favourite games are always the latest COD. I could stand that but because my favourite genre of games is stealth I for some reason can't stand that the say that Assassin's creed 3 is THE ultimate stealth. I said to them about metal gear solid but they say that that's rubbish for stealth and that the story sucks (UUGH). I said to them about the original splinter cell games but they said that all you do in that is hide in the dark and that it hasn't got enough stealth elements in it (UUGH). I am not saying that Assassin's creed 3 is a bad game at all but it isn't the best for stealth at all, would some people please like to prove my friends wrong :D
