best/cheapest way to get tf2 keys?

What is the best and/or cheapest way to get TF2 keys? I'm interested in them because people seem to ask for those a lot for trading games. Thanks! <3

Hmmm, I think the cheapest way is to get them by traders that sell keys for paypal money. Also, tf2 keys aren't as good as cs:go keys are for trading - just saying.

Then just wait till the steam sales and buy keys from the market. During steam sales, key prices in the market drop.

CS:GO keys are more widely used. You can find people selling TF2/CS:GO keys for Paypal on the Trades section, that's the cheapest way

I used to buy refined metal for 10cents or less each when it goes on sale at marketplace.tf and then trade the metal for keys at scrap.tf Using that method, you can get tf2 keys for 1.70-1.90 each. And you dont have to worry about shifty paypal sellers ripping you off. And what shamrock said, vanilla csgo keys are more desirable.

not my kind of thing - but I have always wondered - how do you know if the keys are real, if you are going to keep them to trade later? - thus cannot substantiate if they are genuine or not - sorry for the ignorance here, just curious?

oh - so you buy them then use them on a crate - then trade the crates - or whats inside them? I have a CSGO crate - not even sure where it came from, so was always wondering what was inside it :)

no, you buy them, and trade/sell the keys. opening crates is a suckers bet. 2.50 retail on a key, for usually an 8cent item. But there are people with deep pockets that will go on an unboxing spree, and spend a couple hundred bucks worth of keys opening crates. Hoping to get that unusual tf2 hat, or rare csgo skin worth hundreds.

You can store keys like any other steam item.

yeah - okay - but back yo my original question - if you are okay to discuss - if I buy that key and want to keep it to trade on later, how do I know if the key will in fact work - if I am not immediately turning it into a crate that is ? - or am I just showing my age here and not understanding :(

the key, is an item itself, it gets stored in your inventory. like any steam inventory item, it can be traded, or saved. there are no such things as non genuine case keys.

You got the case from playing csgo. You get drops at certain levels, and at random times. The drops can be crates, or skins. Ive been playing csgo for a couple weeks now, about 25 hours actual play time maybe, have dropped 3 crates, 5 skins in that time.

its in your inventory, maybe they drop just from idling, I can only guess you idled the game for cards.
