Hey Steamgifters:)

I need your advice: currently I am playing the Witcher 1 and I got to admit: although I am not really into RPGs, this one is impressivly good, I enjoy it so much except for the combat, but that's another topic. I plan on playing the whole franchise:) As you probably all know, The Witcher 3 is on sale for 30 bucks on Steam and GOG, and I am thinking about buying it. First I tended to buying it on GOG, because you know, DRM-free, but then I decided to buy on Steam since I can use community setups for Steam controller then and I also have some money 6,5€ in my steam wallet from selling cards, and I am idling as much as I can about 270 card drops remaining... it's been a while since I used Idle Master, sorry:/
So, what do you guys think?

Also, mandatory GA coming in a couple of hours, not home ATM.

Thanks in advance for your help:)

Yes, now's a good time.
Yes, why didn't you already?
No, it will drop way more.
No, The Witcher 3 is overhyped.
Buy Lord GabeN's soul instead.

actually, i would say u have to play the first 2 games before, but to be honest the game is only fully enjoyable if u have read the books, great part of the story about the 60% tells the end of the book saga, there are characters in the witcher 3 that are only described and take their scene in the last 2-3 books, so also a fan from the witcher2 cant understand exactly who are them and why they talk or interact with geralt in that way.
if u play the first 2 games sure u will enjoy better the third, which is a masterpiece also for ppl who dont know the story, so in my opinion buy it :)

get it now, or maybe wait till winter sales. it will probably be at least 50% again.

just be sure to play them in order or you will miss a lot of references and characters in the 3rd game. :3

I spent more time goofing with mods than playing the actual game.

why?

To support the devs because the liked the game a lot. And unlike witcher 1&2 for witcher 3 steam doesn't gives a gog key.

And the disk was cheaper while pre-ordering, but steam is cheap now.

I've pre-ordered it both on GOG and Steam in 2014 - it was cheap (~ $18) if you've owned the first two games. Like vaibhav, I did it to support the devs. One of the top 10 games ever made, in my opinion.
As for the buying question, there will definitely be a good discount at the winter sale, so you might want to wait and finish Assassins of Kings in the due time.

You're still playing the first, then there's the second... By the time you're done with them, the third will be much cheaper! So... wait!

You can still use the Steam controller on games from GOG if you launch it through a shortcut in Steam. I have all three from GOG, but haven't played any of them yet. I picked up Witcher 2 free when they had a promotion on GOG giving it away. I got Witcher 3 free when I bought a new GPU earlier this year, and I was able to pick up the first one for $1 when they offered a discount if you owned one or more in the series. I've bought sequels to games before because they were on sale, only to have them go on sale cheaper by the time I got to them, so if I were in your situation, I wouldn't buy the 3rd one until I was finished (or close to finishing) part 2 and knew I would play it right away.

If I buy from GoG I could use Steam Controller, but I could not use Community or Dev presets.
