A single trade card deal needs a lot of confirmations ,you just got too many protections.
It's easier to rob a bank than to fail at trade deal with steam mobile guard.

I know that guy, and I actually think he's pretty sweet...

Use Enhanced Steam and check profiles before trade. I got scammed out of GTAV in a similar way. Looked the guy up after and found him on SteamRep and SG, both with negative feedback. Not that I do a lot of trading these days but if they don't have a profile (or claim not to) I won't do the trade. +rep on a steam profit is sadly meaningless these days. Sorry this happened to you
