This is for live action shows only, intentionally.

My personal choices are always changing, but my top five fluctuate between DS9, B5, BSG, Firefly, and Farscape.

Re-watching Farscape right now.
Also, planning on rewatching at least parts of Stargate.
But definitely voted for Firefly..

I'm re-watching Farscape myself, and finished a re-watch of DS9 last November or so, part of the reason I started this poll.

I just watched "Picture if you will." I forgot a certain villain from late S1 made their return that soon.

My favorite episodes tend to be D'argo-centered since he's prettymuch a Dwarf in space. Same reason I like TNG/DS9-era Klingons.

My list goes something like this:
1 - Firefly
2 - Stargate SG-1
3 - Star Trek DS9
4 - Star Trek Voyager
5 - Star Trek TNG
6 - Star Trek Enterprise
7 - Farscape
Everything else is kind of bleh. I absolutely hate BSG... its literally a soap opera in space. More drama than scifi goodness.

Also, while technically not a space show, X-files does have aliens and whatnot... would likely be number 3 on my list if included.

Well BSG is a space opera in the truest sense, and it's more hard and military SF than these other shows. Until season 3 there was a greater attempt to ground everything in reality.

I never got into the SG series, always seemed way too gimmicky and childish to me, like SF for people growing into serious SF fans as adults. That's probably unfairly biased of me, though.

Stargate "always seemed way too gimmicky and childish to me". My thoughts exactly. But I enjoyed watching MacGyver stroll about on alien planets.

I wish I had not included Firefly, I should have expected it to beat everything else by a huge margin.

BSG

Firefly is great, but 14 eps and a movie just doesn't cut it :(

If you haven't read them, I cautiously recommend the graphic novels, which act as both prequels and sequels to the show and film. I say cautiously because YMMV, even if you're a "Browncoat" kind of fan.

So many people commenting have not even seen Red Dwarf by the looks, You all need to remedy that right now. Even Picard loves Red Dwarf.

All of these are pretty great(hell I evel liked enterprise). But Firefly and BSG hold a special place.

Firefly because, well, It's just that. And BSG because it was such a fricken adventure, and it had some great characters like Gaius and Adama. To anyone who hasn't seen these two series: you'd better!

Agreed, Edward James Olmos is such a phenomenal actor, he did things with that character that kept me watching the show even after it started to lose its center.
William "Husker" Adama and Laura Roslin: one of my favorite fictional couples in any medium.

Also, Firefly definitely breaks the generational barrier: I got my dad into it and he's 72. He's never enjoyed any other SF franchise, or fantasy for that matter, in his life. Gods know I've tried!

Because its not all gimmicky with crazy technology or aliens. Its just people. People that outgrew the confines of Earth and branched out via terraforming.

That has a lot to do with it, gorram right. One of the things I liked best was how most of the tech was plausible, and how the situation could very easily have happened, and historically has happened on this ole rock.

I got my dad to watch Deadwood first.

Friendly reminder that in order to maximize the number of voters, always have a "N/A" option of some sort. I can't vote whatsoever because this poll doesn't apply to me. Sorry, Khazadson, but have a bump anyway.

I purposely left out that option:)

I'm curious though, you've never seen any of these shows or never wanted to, and depending on the answer, why?

I'm not a fan of movies and television series. Haven't even watched the Dune movie or series (vid. earlier discussion). I would probably enjoy a number of those series, but the medium just never really interested me enough and I never got into it. As a child, I grew up reading, not watching, and when I watched television, it would be some documentary on HISTORY Channel (before it went to shit) or some educational programming.

For what it's worth, I have considered watching them and may someday. I've just never been interested enough to do so.
