It's been pretty much dead for a while now. Though I must admit RE:R is quite decent.

I think people are confusing a "dead franchise" with one that you don't personally enjoy anymore. Especially people including RE4 in their rantings. Whether you liked it or not, RE4 at least is regarded critically as a classic... it single-handedly saved a directionless third person shooter genre.
At the very least, RE5 and RE6 have kept it in the "solid" category. It's not all that innovative anymore (though you could probably argue RE5 as one of the pioneers of modern coop games), but nothing about the franchise is dead besides, you know... the zombies.

Yeah, RE4 is no classic RE anymore (but tbh, RE3 wasn´t either.. it just kept the controls and camera of the orinals and tried to make almost a run&gun shooter with that, wich turned out just awefull..) and thats why some fans hate it from a fan-point-of-view, but hell.. it was one of the most amazing and well designed games ever! I just revisited it on Wii and its still amazing how great all the gameplay-elements work together.. and the atosphere was great too, but in another direction than the classic REs.
As much as I´d love to see a new classic RE again, I guess it wont ever happen.. but there always is the amazing RE1-Remake on Gamecube/Wii wich is still very enjoyable today and I heard good things about Revelations having some Oldschool-Feeling too.. haven´t played it myself yet, though.
And of course Mikami´s "The Evil Within" looks very promising, even though it seems to go more down the RE4-Road, but with a larger focus on horror.

Yup, I did understand that and agreed with you ;) Sorry if that was unclear.

I gotta ask this, how is RE5 a pioneer in modern coop games? That would require modern coop games (I know barely any) and I don't know why it would be any more a pioneer than the many older coop games that did things a lot better.
I am curious what about it makes it a pioneer, or even a candidate. Because I have played much better coop games with far better features, about the only thing worthwhile RE5 did that was somewhat new was inventory trading, but it was pretty pathetic and annoying. Not knocking it for being a playable coop game, just lost as to why it is pioneering.

Personally, I really liked RE5 but Racoon City, RE6 and RE:R were a disaster. Probably a reboot should be a good a idea but in my opinion they should change some of the team making current games first, get fresh people and a good idea and apply it. RE turned into a regular third person shooter with poor story and it's not even scary or something anymore, I'd rather play Call of Duty instead (at least it has slow motion) :). They should make a darker, scarier and intense reboot that is less focused on random shooting and on the survival element instead.

RE5 was last good game they made (even though RE4 was better)
all games after that are too much an action shooter

That has to be the worst example I have ever seen - most of the things he complains about are things the fans want back, or are due to it being a port from a handheld.
If you blindly believe what he has said, it is because you are ignorant of the things that make it good. About the only point he had right was the timed section - a single timed section in the whole game, is fairly forgiving as long as you choose your battles, and is actually pretty tense and interesting, and I usually hate anything with a timer with a passion.
The game is actually very good, but the PC controls are not optimal (I suggest a controller or getting a 3DS to play it). It feels like what RE1 tried to be, but without the tech limitations. Well, by and large, it didn't completely escape the taint of RE5., it does have some action parts.
Oh, and raid mode is actually awesome.

Everyone bashes RE5 and 6, while I agree they weren't as good RESIDENT EVIL games, they weren't bad games at all, in my opinion. You can't really expect them to continue pumping out the classic survival horror games and have them be successful, people will get bored. If you take them in another direction, like they have, people will say it's not true Resident Evil. There is no winning regardless of what they do. Damn shame because RE2 is one of my favorite games of all time, the old RE's are one of my favorite franchises. (1, 2, 3, 0, Code Veronica, etc)

I personally think it needs a reboot ala Tomb Raider.
To me, RE5, RE6 and RE:R have been a disaster, they are really mediocre games, despite the title popularity.
Anyway, discuss!
