Is Resident Evil a dead franchise?

RE4 was a great survival horror game, RE5 was pretty nice coop game, hope for RE6 sale to try it in coop aswell. Yes 5 wasnt a great game but still pretty enjoyable (in coop, i would drop it pretty fast in a single player).

RE:R is cool, RE 6 okay, RE 5 disaster. If series will go in RE R direction its alive. If in RE 5-6 Direction - then dead. No one need another sh`tty coop shooters with great horror legacy.

Dead Space is what RE4 and RE5 should have been. A 'behind the back' creepy shooter. Instead, the new RE's (post RE3) are action games.

I haven't played a RE game since #2 and I loved it. I was tempted to buy 6 and Revelations but the gameplay just made it look..weird.

For me it's been dead since the second.

Resident Evil is dead. Has been since after RE3. Code Veronica was alright but 4,5,6 and all the others in between were just really bad.

It's been pretty much dead for a while now. Though I must admit RE:R is quite decent.

I think people are confusing a "dead franchise" with one that you don't personally enjoy anymore. Especially people including RE4 in their rantings. Whether you liked it or not, RE4 at least is regarded critically as a classic... it single-handedly saved a directionless third person shooter genre.

At the very least, RE5 and RE6 have kept it in the "solid" category. It's not all that innovative anymore (though you could probably argue RE5 as one of the pioneers of modern coop games), but nothing about the franchise is dead besides, you know... the zombies.

To me its a disaster since RE4. It dont even feels, looks or plays like the original Resident Evil. I want the old ones back!

I really wish it could go back to RES 3 and below and just add coop; RES Outbreak files was really good for coop.

Overall I like my puzzle horror games to be coop.

Dead? nope, fucked up? yes. Capcom loves to punish their consumers(yet they keep buying half-asses games), like mentioned above they should make a RE:Outbreak so much to recycle about :P.

RE5 was fun and I liked it better than 4, haven't played the new ones yet.

RE5 is the bad game. Nothing like having a bot kill you because MP is dead and you can't micro.

Is Evil Dead a Resident franchise?

Personally, I really liked RE5 but Racoon City, RE6 and RE:R were a disaster. Probably a reboot should be a good a idea but in my opinion they should change some of the team making current games first, get fresh people and a good idea and apply it. RE turned into a regular third person shooter with poor story and it's not even scary or something anymore, I'd rather play Call of Duty instead (at least it has slow motion) :). They should make a darker, scarier and intense reboot that is less focused on random shooting and on the survival element instead.

THe GameCube version was awesome, they should do a reboot like that.

Everyone bashes RE5 and 6, while I agree they weren't as good RESIDENT EVIL games, they weren't bad games at all, in my opinion. You can't really expect them to continue pumping out the classic survival horror games and have them be successful, people will get bored. If you take them in another direction, like they have, people will say it's not true Resident Evil. There is no winning regardless of what they do. Damn shame because RE2 is one of my favorite games of all time, the old RE's are one of my favorite franchises. (1, 2, 3, 0, Code Veronica, etc)
