A N64 is (in my opinion) faaar better than a SNES when you look at those 2 consoles libaries of games.

I had it, I enjoyed Super Mario Kart, Tetris Attack, ChessMaster, Super Tennis, Jack Nicklaus golf, Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures, The Book of the Jungle(a game about Mowgli)
Edited: I marked in different format the best games I had and played. I never could beat totally the Indiana Jones because it wasn't easy, but at least you had some codes to enter to go to a certain level, since games didn't had save system, and The Book of the Jungle was too hard to kill the last boss(if the last boss was Sherkan) and you had to play like 3-4 to get to him because of lack of save system, and once you reach him you had practically no lifes left.
My friend had a N64, it was an awesome console, we enjoyed Pokemon Stadium, also a Kirby and a Donkey Kong games.

Zelda: a link to the past, Street Fighter 2, Super Mario Allstars, Super Mario World, Secrete of Mana 1+2, Final Fantasy 6 (if you havent played elsewhere), F-Zero (Best Melodies on a racing game ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtSmoxiwcAs), Pirnce of Persia maybe.
i would recommend
Secret of Mana or Zelda to start with and then Street Fighetr 2.
EDIT: as i read through the comments i add Mario Kart and Star Fox to the list :D

Super Mario 3
Donkey Kong 1 & 3
Secret of Mana
Final Fight 1-2-3
Breath of Fire I & II
Killer Instinct
Mortal Kombat 3 (superceded by UMK3, but that game suffered from fewer animations & slightly inferior graphics to fit the larger roster on the SNES cartridge)
Jammit
U.N. Squadron

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is still one of my favorites :-D
Super Mario World was an fantastic jump-n-run game and I still like it :-)
I really liked Donkey Kong Country though it lost some of it's appeal when I wanted to replay it... don't know why...
Never been a big fan of Racing games but super mario kart was pretty fun...

Terranigma and Earthbound for SNES, Banjo Kazooie, Mario Kart and Super Mario 64 for N64 definitely :)

Well i didn't have a console either. So i bought a ps2 when i got my first payment a year ago. Sadly i'm in med school so i rarely go home and play. But i heard that i will have more free time in two years. It's getting easier after the first half. Btw you should check some toplist of the snes and n64 games.

Conker's Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark for N64
Final Fantasy V and VI, Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger for SNES
Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX, Chrono Cross, Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot 3, Vagrant Story, Front Mission 3 for PSX
Most Squaresoft games are awesome, Square-Enix is OK, but not as good as in the old days.

Super Mario World is a must play on the SNES, as well as Super Metroid and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the past.
As for the N64, you should definitely check out Super Mario 64 and GoldenEye 64.

The best games on SNES would probably be
If you like JRPGs then you should also try Terranigma and Breath of Fire 1&2. Even if you don't like JRPGs you might enjoy those ones (Terranigma's even an action game), although the random encounters in Breath of Fire happen far too often (buy cheap smoke bombs from shops and use them often to avoid getting interrupted all the time).
For the N64 you should definitely try The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. It's the signature N64 game. Then try Majora's Mask - I hesitate to call this a Zelda game because I think it's much more enjoyable if you think of it as a isolated one-shot game which just happens to reuse artwork and concepts from Ocarina of Time, but it's very good in it's own right.

Depends on what type of games you like. I played mostly RPG and strategy games so I liked, Square Soft, Enix and Koei games mostly. Other ones were Ultima and Breath of Fire games. Same how's for NES games. Never liked many N64 games except Mario kart and ken griffey Jr baseball.
