Am I the only one who was expecting a lot more from this game? Who else tested it out? Give me your thoughts about this "Chivalry's rival".

If I discover that I'm the only one who didn't like it I might make a giveaway for it in the next few days, since I've been wanting to make a non-bundle one for quite some time.

Thx

I feel a bit the same. I played chivalry and Mount and Blade. In coparison WoR or how its called has nice graphics and i like the combat system(like M&B), but the combat feels a bit slow. However the customisation is great. I hope they improve the gamplayspeed a bit to make it more intense....

The slow combat annoyed me too! lol. It's a slow motion medieval war (cut.....defend....cut.....defend)

That's the whole point... dueling isn't just smashing your sword down like a barbarian

well chivalry has a duellmode too. Its faster and more challenging. (and not only smashing my sword) :P

I won't deny that I'm a huge fan of very fast paced games, games that we don't even know where that falling head came from haha. Well, that's why I made this thread, different opinions xD You got a point there.

Played WoTR first and then Chivalry. So far I've spent more time on Chivalry and I think it's a better game overall. I only play duels in Chivalry as everything else just frustrates me. I do like WoTR's archery a lot better than Chivalry's, but that's about the only redeeming factor about it.

Agreed. The archery system is innovative(the bow system actually, cause the crossbow made me angry xD). There is the horse and spear too, but I suck at hitting my enemies with it.

It's crap. No where near as good as chivalry. Tried it yesterday and absolutely HATE it!

WotR compared to chivalry is worse, you can now get Chivalry in Greenmangaming for a discount and using also coupon 20% off, Chivalry have better gameplay, better graphics, and it's more funny.

lol since when WotR have better graphics? O.O if you compare the games is obviously Chivalry have better graphics, WotR graphics have a lot of fog, the light reflection is bad...

Since ever, Chivalry is using outdated Unreal Engine, if you think otherwise you're obviously a fanboy and it's a time waste arguing about it lol.

O.O is obviously that reflections look more realistic, models, particles, textures, etc in Chivalry LOL, maybe you're just a fan boy?

Lot better than Chivalry in my opinion. Maybe combat is slower, but it's more realistic that way. It's team oriented game and i think i have money well spent on WOTR.

+1.

Also the only thing that wotr is missing in comparison with chivalry in terms of gameplay is siege mode, which was confirmed and is coming "soon".

Duly noted! - was curious about this, as, similarly, I was slightly disappointed in title Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, yet have fond memories of the original free HL2 mod (Chivalry) which was wicked fun! I suspect highly polished graphics & high fidelity effects / environments comes @ the sacrifice of engaging, satisfying & fast-paced / smooth combat mechanics - of which there's no substitute, in my opinion.

All of which are American dreams...

i am not a big fan of this kind of game but i tried war of the roses, warband and chivalry... Warband is the best, then chivalry ant last war of the roses IMO. If someone love these games dont do a crime to own all :) I bought war band and i am fine with that only...if i win the others well..good

Hmm I'm less excited about playing WoTR after reading this thread, I'll still give it a go because I've only got my time to lose :)

But, as you saw, some people prefer WoTR than chivalry, then yes, give it a go! In the end it's your own opinion that really counts.

Indeed :) I gave it a go and was fun but I think I prefer the control system in Chivalry over all :)

Also keep in mind this game is far from finished it's missing Siege mode (it's confirmed and coming soon) which will add tons of fun and a better replayability, besides Fatshark will be providing content updates on monthly basis. (and so far they delivered)

So what? I had such disappointment not long ago, it was called "Max Payne 3", and where was my own reasons for that. It's a matter of taste here, you know.
With WotR I needed about half an hour to understand - this not my kind of game. Neither "WotR", nor "Chivalry".

this game is not for newbies. I think that's the problem (i master both, and wotr is much deeper than chivalry). Like comparing rainbow six with counter strike

Well, here's my ranking for those 3 games.

  1. Mount and Blade: Warband
  2. Chivalry
  3. War of the Roses

WotR was very dissapointing for me, as well, I hoped it would be a lot more similar to mount and blade, which it wasn't. The archery combat was awesome but everything else pretty much bad. The combat felt very chunky, slow, hard and unresponsive, unlike Mount and Blade. I like Chivalry, as well, but Mount and Blade will remain my number 1.
