*[Guess who's still looking?]*Looking to meet people and maybe getting to know each other.

I've been waiting my entire life for someone to ask me that.

The short version is, it's a shonen that follows the exploits of the Joestar family across multiple generations. The manga is ongoing and split into eight parts, with each part having a new main character and mostly self contained plot. It follows a pretty standard villain-of-the-arc format for the most part, but it stands out due to its incredibly, well, bizarre character and power designs. (The main character of Part 7 can shoot his fingernails. It's way more awesome than it sounds.) The fights are expertly written. With the exception of a few early examples, there are no "I beat you by gaining a new power all of a sudden!" conclusions or winning through the power of friendship/anger/just being the hero. The protagonists legitimately outstrategize their opponents in inventive ways, and it's very engaging.

If you're interested, I'd recommend reading/watching in order. The (excellent) anime currently covers the first three parts. Avoid the OVAs.

The long version:

Part 1 is set in the 1800s and is about Jonathan Joestar, a young Englishman from a wealthy family whose adoptive brother, Dio Brando, begins plotting against him, culminating in Dio using an ancient stone mask to become a vampire and raising an army of zombies. It's probably the least interesting/most ordinary part, but also the shortest, and it does have a few great moments that let you know what the series has in store.

Part 2 is about Jonathan's grandson, Joseph. The creators of the stone masks, ancient vampire gods, have awoken, and Joseph is tasked with defeating them. Joseph is one of my all time favorite fictional characters; he's entertaining in some new and surprising way every time he's on screen. This is where the fights start getting crazier: a supporting character fights by blowing bubbles charged with the energy of the sun, and at one point Joseph has to draw a diagram to explain to his own opponent how he defeated them.

Part 3 is set in the late 1980s and stars Joseph's grandson, Jotaro. When Dio Brando reappears, it awakens a strange psychic ability called a Stand in the members of the Joestar family. Jotaro's mother's stand is slowly killing her, so Jotaro must travel with his grandfather to Egypt to defeat Dio, fighting a bizarre assortment of Stand users along the way. Stands are probably what the series is best known for: (mostly) humanoid psychic constructs that fight alongside the user and provide them with some strange power like turning into string or transforming people into books so that you can read their life story. Most of them are named after Western songs/bands, which is occasionally hilarious when someone tries to kill the heroes with Limp Biskit.

Part 4 is set in a small Japanese town, and stars Josuke, Joseph's illegitimate teenage son. It spends a lot of time on developing the town and its residents, almost crossing over into slice-of-life at times. (Which I enjoyed.) The main plot focuses around the hunt for a stand using serial killer who has haunted the town for years.

Part 5 is set in Italy, and stars Giorno Giovana (pronounced Jorno Jovana, of course), Dio's son, who tracks down and joins a stand using faction of the Italian mafia. Giorno and a group of his associates are charged with protecting their boss's daughter from a mutinous cell of assassins. Unfortunately, the only existing scanlation of part 5 is low quality and very inaccurate.

Part 6 is set in the United States and stars Jolyne, Jotaro's daughter. Jolyne is framed for murder and sentenced to life in a prison full of stand users, including the prison chaplain, who happens to be Dio's protege. This part proved unpopular due to the combination of the first female protagonist and some major plot twists, but personally, I love it.

Part 7 is set in an alternate universe around the 1800s. It stars Johnny Joestar, a paraplegic former jockey competing in a race across the United States in order to learn the secret of the "spin" from the mysterious Gyro Zeppeli. Two cowboys fight the president for control of Jesus' magical body parts. It's great.

Part 8 is ongoing. It's set in the same universe as part 7, but in present day Japan. It features the alternate universe version of Josuke, in this reality an amnesiac trying to hunt down clues as to who he was in the past. I can't really find a way to make that sound interesting without spoiling anything, and the plot's not very far along yet, but it's not bad so far.
