Happy Indepedence Day!
I secretly love old Bollywood movies. But by names I can only recall a few actors only: Mithun Chakraborty, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Raj Kapoor, etc.

Happy Independence Day :D
As to what I think, I don't really know much about India or its people except there are a lot of you. To be fair, I've don't really know much about most countries. I am rarely interested in a people, I'm more about the person. I know some call my area Little India, and not fondly unfortunately. They are not happy about the immigrants as a people due to some experiences they've had. Problem is you get good and bad with any people so I hate to generalize.
I did find this video quite interesting about the Kalinga Institute and its over 25000 students.

I presume you are from Singapore, since i was there myself in February and visited Little India as well among other places!
In my opinion Singapore has the overall best quality of life compared to any city/country in the world. Really awed! :D
Yes the population is quite high here ,so those institutes and mega kitchen are indeed unique!

I hear Singapore is quite nice, but I'm from Canada. I do have a friend from there though, we used to work together before she went back. In my city there are more of South Asian decent than Caucasian. Not exactly sure how many are from India, but some of my neighbours call the area Little India.

I have been in awe of the Canadian Rockies and the Maple trees there. Winter is a nice time to visit or Summers would be better?

That is a very tricky question really. Its mostly dependant on you and what you want. I love the look of the woods in the winter with all the snow. That being said, I've seen many that are bundled up in the fall in heavy winter jackets because they are not used to the cold. Different parts of Canada get different amounts of snow and cold and there is no guarantee of either. One of these days I would love to travel and visit a maple syrup farm in the winter. I would also love to travel and see the giant redwoods in the summer, though probably nearer to fall as I don't do too well in the heat. I'd much rather go out in shorts when its snowing than be out in 25C/80F heat. There is certainly more tourist areas that are open in the summer so that would probably be your best bet.

Happy Independence Day! I can't speak for everyone of course but I feel like a lot of Americans sadly don't know much about India. Mostly food, fashion and Bollywood...hmmm the Taj Mahal. Though I'm always trying to learn more about different countries/cultures! I've also enjoyed the music I've listened to. :)

And I don't mean to be rude*, but honestly the way I see India is currently as a country with great culture (I love the traditional fashion) and some really beautiful sights, super spicy food and Bollywood movies, but not a very nice place for women to live (rape, rape and even more rape), relatively poor and as far as I know very unhygienic (with my current knowledge I probably wouldn't dare to eat anything from any street vendor there).

Oh, and everyone and their mama is in the IT branch xD
Though now that I mention that I have the feeling that India was pretty known for child labour too...

But honestly, I haven't really researched into it a lot, just impressions from videos and the like, so my perspective on it is currently very small. I'll be gladly told I'm wrong about the negative bits :)

*I know some people will say that by prefacing it with this I know that I'm being rude, but it's simply what I currently know about it and I know some of it isn't very nice :|

Thanks for the wishes and nice Hetalia Pic! :D
Yes, crime against women is condemnable in every form and by every sane citizen.
We are striving to move towards development and The Swacch Bharat Mission ( Clean India Campaign ) has been successful in instilling basic hygiene sense amongst the poorest of the poor.

IT is a popular field of work and there are literally hordes of new graduates joining the field each year.

India has successfully overcome the bane of child labour and deferred to position to our unstable neigbour in this regard.

No, mate, it wasn't rude one bit, since what is a fact, is a fact and the problem can't be mitigated unless we identify it as a problem.
That being said, some aspects of poverty, women safety are viciously exaggerated in select print and video media to further specific political agenda.

P.S. Even I avoid street food for the want for hygiene! :P

Two people seem to disagree with you on the rude thing, was added to two more blacklists after this post and I didn't post much else but thanks otherwise lol

Never heard of the SBM before, but so nice to see that part of it is working on open defectation. That really doesn't need to be a thing anymore <.<

Is there a particular reason why IT is so popular? For example is it especially well-paying or has other benefits that aren't often found in other job areas?

So good to hear you guys were able to reign in the child labour thing :D
How is the safety for men over there? And the general safety? Like, sure rape and robbery are bad etc. but is it really that common or is it umm.. made bigger by the media than it actually is?

P.S.: Now I KNOW I wouldn't dare eat anything from a street vendor xD

I will WL you to try and make up for the 2 blacklists! :D

SBM government site : http://sbm.gov.in/sbm/ Basically outlines the approach and lists the recent achievements.

IT is popular because an IT trained graduate is more eligible for a white collar job. And jobs are a priority here.

Safety in general is good, like one doesn't fear being killed or robbed at random.
Having said that, YES crime exists in a few backward and naxalite pockets. Rape / violence in any form on any citizen is unacceptable, but then in a population of 1.3 billion+ , incidents can not be 100% avoided. But there is no systematic apathy/anarchy and the culprits are booked and dealt with as per the law of the land.

I am not justifying the crime incidents, by mentioning the population boom, just that we are trying our best to weed it out at the grass-root level. It sure will take time. Obviously crime per 1000 population would be less, but total incidents would be more for the sole reason that population figure is so big.

For contrast, our most populous state, Uttar Pradesh , would be the world's fifth most populous nation, next only to China, India, the United States of America and Indonesia if it were an independent nation.

Regarding propaganda by anti-right & left winged media houses and political parties , they are tirelessly trying to discredit the strong government under our Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and have actually been caught on camera inciting riots last month. They will fail in their misadventures as the people of India this time around are well aware of their wrong doings.

Ultimately the goal of every civil society in my opinion is to achieve 100% education and 0% crime ; with all-round welfare of the citizens. Time will tell how much further we have to go in this journey! :D

Yeah in terms of how coumtries age, we are a young developing democracy. The skilled and unskillled labour is cheaper because of the booming population.
