I love Oblivion, but I've only played like 20 minutes of F:NV, so I can't really judge

FALLOUT! I used to be a medieval fanboy, but I've been consumed by the ways of the post-apocalyptic setting. Although to add to that, I've never really been a big fan of the realm of the Elder Scrolls.

Elder Scrolls for sure. There just something about the insane amount of lore and discovery that Fallout lacks.

Fallout. I got lots in Fallout much easier than I did in the Elder Scrolls.

Fallout is much more fun. Still waiting patiently for a proper sequel to New Vegas. Both 3 and NV were excellent.

Fallout because of VATS and it just feels harder and more survival based.
Also, I loved Morrowind but lost some interest when they removed A LOT of Alteration spells in Oblivion and then totally destroyed Alteration and removed Athletics/Acrobatics in Skyrim. Spells/Enchants were also much more customizable in Morrowind.

I see no point on comparing them, they're both great (especially the beginning chapters of both TES and fallout), they're also so different, and one if kind of medieval-fantasy rpg, while the other is a shooter and has nothing to do with dragons and swords...
How can you compare such different games? Obviously everyone will just pick the one fitting more their playstyle.. I'd to vote TES for example, because I play with melee weapons more often than guns (I have spent on TES the triple of my Fallout's time and I'm very nerdish when I like a game, arriving even to 600 hours), but Fallout was also a great serie I enjoied a lot.

"while the other is a shooter and has nothing to do with dragons and swords..."

That's not entirely true - Fallout had swords as well as other melee combat options

and TES has the bow which is ranged.. XD I wasn't obviously being pedant... Lets say Fallout is mostly a shooter, due to being set in a 1950's background... :)

imo Elder Scrolls is more of an action RPG and Fallout is more turn-based RPG due to VATS I wouldn't call it a shooter

Earlier Fallout games are most certainly more turn-based but as the series has progressed, I think shooter is certainly acceptable.

I have fo3 (haven't started it yet), but I have to give it to tes. Its not the storyline per se, but the number of quests, the immersion, the different cultural references with the books, and the true fantasy style world hooked me in. I loved morrowind, not that big of a fan of oblivion, and still hooked on skyrim.

Ive always preferred Fallout over TES because of its post apocalyptic setting. The elder scrolls wants to be medieval but fucks it up by being in another universe on another planet. The witcher 2 hit the medieval but not earth theme nicely. TES is too high fantasy for me.

You can't compare the two. Once is fantasy and the other is sci fi. I love both. I'll play whatever I'm in the mood for.

fantasy(high fantasy type stuff) and scifi(the star treky stuff more than alien(the movie) stuff) have alot more in common than people tend to think though. Sufficiently advanced tech is basically magic, they both have several races that usually can interbreed with humans, ect.

whats the real difference between a cloaking device and invisibility spell? or elves vs space elves, or an enchanted sword vs lightsaber, magic vs force, mage vs psion, orc vs klingon, golem vs robot, a hypospray of instant heal science fluid with nanotech vs flask of healing potion. dragon vs xenomorph, radioactive mutant vs necromantic zombie, mad science mad wizard, plainer shift vs interdenominational travel, enchanted plate, powerarmor, airship spaceship, dragon rider, fighterpilot, litch vs some types of cyborg,

so much of it is just cosmetic I'm surprised more games/books/movies haven't mashed up the two.

Fallout of course, Dragons in Skyrim are overrated and are generally easy to defeat without mods.

Fallout 1 - Awesome

Fallout 2 - Awesome

Fallout 3 - Ridiculously awesome.

Fallout New Vegas - Lost the Apocalyptic feel, but still good, combat is improved.

Its because I love a post-apocalyptic setting, but the only thing that I love that includes fantasy is Torchlight.

and why fallout!? because...

"War, war never changes."

Fallout, because TES doesn't have radio. And nothing kills the monotony of travelling across a huge open space like a radio
