Inspired by games that should be movies

And for bonus points, what kind of game?

I reckon:

  • The Anne McCaffrey Dragonflight/pern series would make a spectacular new RPG.
  • Robert R McCammon's Swan Song (post apocalyptic fiction), would be a great adventure game, like the recent "the walking dead" games.
  • Game of Thrones: Sadly the studio that owns the rights already made a pretty terribad RTS and RPG. But imagine if the likes of Bethesda had the licence.. man, missed opportunity for an epic RPG.
  • You won't have heard of it but there's an amazing horror series called "Necroscope" by Brian Lumley, which would make a splendid horror themed, extremely mature RPG.

Not sure if they apply, but there's a lot of Warhammer-related novels that would make awesome games.

A Ciaphas Cain adventure/RPG one would be amazing.

As far as Anne McCaffrey goes, check out "Dragon Riders: Chronicles of Pern" on Dreamcast and "Dragonriders of Pern" for Commodore 64

Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks. Best fantasy book I've read since The Witcher Saga. It's also perfect setting for a game ! But I wouldn't trust any big company with it. It'd be the same story as with all the other book and movie franchises (except Witcher of course). If I was a little better at programming I'd start making it myself (to be honest I'm still thinking about improving my programming skills and actually doing it).
Also, by the same author, The Lightbringer series. Only one book is out yet, but it looks like another awesome series and game material at the same time.

I've been addicted to the Wool series by Hugh Howey. That would make an excellent adventure game with horror elements.

Dragonlance books, though the game should be really well made to deserve to be based on such epicness.
