11/01/2013 - Currently running simultaneous consolation event

Hopefully you'll read the first line at least, so know that we no longer take new members, there will be a new topic for our next event's recruitement.

Our first event was a success, and here are some numbers that prove it:

  • 87 members
  • 170+ simultaneous ending quality giveaways (list)
  • 68 members got at least one win (some got 6 simultaneous wins!) (stats)
  • Highest entries giveaway had 74 entries, lowest was with just 2. (stats)

For those 19 that won nothing, we have created a consolation group (which was one of the winner's idea btw) were they get a second chance on more simultaneous ending giveaways (list)

Yes there were some small issues during the process, but I'm certain that the majority of our members enjoyed the event. Thus, there will be another event some time in the future (probably close to a Steam grand Sale). This topic will soon be closed and a new one will be created when it's time to invite those interested. Please don't ask for invites yet.

14/12/2012 - We are live

Aaaand we are live. Please post if you want an invite but make sure you read the following text and group's rules carefully. Viva la synchronization! :P

A bunch of invites have been sent. I may have missed some, either on purpose or by accident. So please reply to your comments if you still want an invite and I haven't contacted you. It's one man's job so be patient.

There are already some quality giveaways created. Here is a teaser. :)

There is a requirement of 150$ contribution value, but if you are close to that and still want to join please state what giveaway you plan to make and we may consider your entry ;)

13/12/2012 - The Idea

Hello SteamGifts forumers, I'd like to share my idea of a group with you and if you like it, then this group will go live.

So the ambitious plan for this group is to have quality giveaways that all end at the same time. Here are some details:

  • No giveaways of bundle listed or exploited games are allowed.
  • All giveaways must end at a specific time (1/1/2013 0:00 UTC/GMT). Check here for your location's time
  • There should be no giveaways of the same game created more than once (multiple copies in a giveaway are ok), so people can't win the same game twice.
  • Every member must create a giveaway until 29th of December 23:59 or they will be kicked from the group and giveaways they may win, will be re-rolled.

This way you may win 3-4 different games at once or win none at all. I have already created the group, but I'll start inviting people only after I see there are people interested in participating. Wouldn't want to end up with a 5 member group. You can check more details about the group here:

I'd love to join Shinobi and Killergp just told me about this and I think its a great idea if I get in I'll put up a BIT.TRIP.VOID giveaway. Its brand new and from a fantastic series not to be confused with the others that have been in the bundles.
EDIT:I see now that 4 of the games I gave away [Offspring Fling!] is now in a bundle my contrib is now at 148 if you're willing to be lenient thank you if not I wish you all the best.

Been in the chatroom for hours hoping to speak with you :3 Just to realize there's a $150 contrib req... I don't see how contrib makes a difference for the simultaneous giveaway. If you're willing to reconsider I'd love to be part of the giveaway I have a few real games in mind.

The truth is that I rarely send new invitations some days now, since like I've replied to many that have contacted me personally, I'm a lot more picky on new members. The cap of 100 is a psychological one. We don't have to reach it, but if we did I'd stop accepting people no matter what.

So I've seen your requests. At this point I would not easily accept a new member that has repeatedly violated the ToS of HiB, or that most of his giveaways (that probably helped him get the contribution cap) are from Amazon bundles and Indie bundles. That member just shows that all that matters in gifting is the contribution gain out of it and we don't need such members.

I'm perfectly happy with our member's number and even more happy with the amount of giveaways we have and how most of them are high quality.

This group will continue being after this event, we are Simultaneous Giveaways group after all, not an "End of the world", or "End of the year" giveaway group. Some of our members may not be included for our next event and new ones are always accepted.

Keep sync'ing!

Bumping is free. We will accept new members for this event for about 22 hours after this message. As I mentioned before, this group will continue and there will be another event some time in the future were there will probably be another set of invites. :)

The following is my own opinion and doesn't require a response (this is not meant to turn into a debate); however your post and the general mindset of the SG community that the post eludes to struck a nerve that compelled me to respond with the following:

As true as it may be that people violate the ToS of HumbleBundle & IndieGala, I personally don't believe that most people are aware of their violation (many including yourself have made this mistake) or will choose to seperate the keys when there is no bundle option rather than wait (which I will assume is the correct course of action) or only needed a few keys of the bundle. Moreover the massive amount of such giveaways gives the public a false sense of acceptance to follow suit and make similar giveaways. In regards to non-*'ed contribution boosting as well as the above bundle boosting, I believe there is a two-fold problem which compounds on itself.

When people see that most public giveaways are "penny-fillers", it gives people less incentive to contribute more. Moreover, when the uncommon $3+ (actual cost to giftee) game actually pops up, there's usually a contribution restriction. As the value of the game rises, so does the barriers to entry (contribution value + private group). Now it makes natural sense for a giftee to want to protect their charitable investment from undeserving hands and it's also true some people are truly just interested in only personal gain, but the resulting problem is an elitist culture.

The result of the elitist restrictions and high barriers to entry results in a Catch-22 in which a new member is unable to join others in giveaways of actual games rather than penny-fillers. They are instead stuck with true leechers and will be at a loss to either giveaway penny-filler or take a loss and giveaway games to potential leechers.

If one is willing to take the loss, they are either truly altruistic and/or unaware/indifferent to the concept of leechers or they are incurring a loss in hopes of gaining acceptance into private groups. Overall, I would say far and few are willing to take the loss as a new member. But, of the ones who do, the former (true altruism) should not care to join a private giveaway; if anything they should object the idea of a private entity potentially capitalizing on their charitability. As for members of the latter (acceptance), one should question their true intent of joining a private group. Could they be looking purely for RoI once they've joined a private group? A Catch-22.

Understandably, the above does not describe all people. If anything it merely highlights the middle and ends of the spectrum and the inherent problem in joining and forming private groups of outstanding members.

I would like to end in saying that this is once again my mere opinion and that I am in no means trying to provoke a response.

And yes I do now realize how much I've written as a reply to a post on the 4th page of a thread... ._. Oh well ^___^ Happy readings I hope!

Edit: Oh! P.S. - I'd like to thank Snake (doubt he'll ever see this) for accepting me into his family :)

Well this is a huge wall of text... but I read it all. ;)

I do not believe there is a single SG member that is a true altruist. An altruist is someone that likes to give without expecting anything in return. I do not seek for altruists to invite in my group, just people that are willing to equally share their giveaways under a main idea (of unique and simultaneous ending giveaways). I originally created 3 giveaways for this group, but after seeing how so many great games are being given away, I added a little extra. I would expect that our members would do the same (many of them actually did), because that's the actual spirit of give and take.

Members that only created a single giveaway of a game that cost them almost nothing just so that they fulfill their part defined by the rules, were a bit of disappointment for me. On the other hand we have also cases were newcomers and non high contributors created 2-3 giveaways without being asked to.

What's the point of me analyzing this? To justify my reasoning behind choosing members. I believe I'm around on SG long enough to make assumptions by a quick look on someone's profile, on if he sees creating giveaways as a way to reach higher contribution valued giveaways or to give something to the community. Out of our 88 members I can say now that I may misjudged 5-6 which we could do without.

And to answer the main concern on your post (that is the elitist part), yes it may seem elitist to have private groups with a bunch of entry criteria, but internet is a vast place with noumerous different cases of people. That is why many would rather give away to a more controlled number of people. It's because of the so many variations of SG users that I felt the need to control who get's invited and who doesn't. So the only criteria I can have on choosing are firstly if I know the person from the fora, if he is a proven contributor or if he seeks for boosting contribution value. That way I can reassure that he will follow the rules on one hand and probably keep up with the give and take spirit that I mentioned above. Than you can say that I may exclude some potential good members and you may be right. But we'll be around and those members can prove themselves not to me, but to the SG community.

I hope I answered everything you wanted ;)

Yay kudos for reading my post :) I appreciate the time you invest in responding. The post really wasn't meant to be directed at you or your group; I think your post just captured private giveaway philosophy well and made me want to express my disappointment in human nature (leechers and members alike, just people in general). I do hope everyone wins everything on New Years in your group :) Best of luck!

Oh yea, the 1:1 rule is a trap! What if you give away 100 games but don't enter any? XD
