Here's my vote: Ghosts N' Goblins is probably the hardest game (hardest for me to win) that I still enjoy.

I played one that came with a mac pack of games a lot of years ago. I couldn't continue after some scenes. So it went back to the box.
I'm not sure if they can be considered fun or enjoyable at all, but definetelly hard. I will search them on youtube. Perhaps some tortured soul has done a walkthrough video.

I never played Battle Kid. Do you have any idea where one can find out which homebrew games are worth playing and which are junk? There are so many that I don't want to just start trying them. I'm going to try streemerz soon.

didn't see your reply till now! I don't really have a source I go to though, unfortunately. Occasionally a particularly good homebrew will get mentioned in Game Developer magazine, but I learned about Battle Kid from my oldschool gamer friends when we had a Battle Kid party. (We've also had a Mega Man party, Metroid party, and a couple others.) I think we only beat the first boss in Battle Kid during the party though. One friends is still trying to beat it like six months later (he's gotten pretty far).

I think hardest game for me is Touhou. All of them - I can't beat any on normal difficulty. But the hard part is that I can't stop playing them. Touhou Project 6 The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil if you want.
