Yesterday the key price on TF2 official store rose to 5,50 brl. I thought it was an update just on the Brazilian store, but now the key price is rising on the market too, what's going on?

The key rose on others regions too?

Let's share informations :3

Well 4,30 BRL is something like 1,41€, your currency is just weak and they adjusted the price I guess. Price is 1,79€ in Germany, Dota key is 1,99€.

2.26 USD atm

Last month and a half they'd been going for anywhere between 2.02 and 2.14, so yea, definitely rising a bit. Dota2 keys have been hovering at around 2.30 (2.31 currently) so they've held.

Are they still $2.49 in the US store?

$2.30 ($2.00 after fees) was the regular price before they dipped a while back.

Well, few days ago were over 7000+ items for sale, now only 3900+ , that should be a factor

today has been a good day for replenishing my steam wallet back to the pre-summer sale amount. I'd expect that in a month or so when the fall sale hits it'll take another nosedive.

Oh, TF2 keys for 1.79€ on store.teamfortress.com/ for me in EU1, instead of 2€... but no idea when/why they changed the price.
Currently, it's 1.74€ for a key on the market.

I saw (or read on these forums rather) A guy who bought either 150 keys/crates to open live all at once or 300 (he was talking about 300 total of something and i'm almost sure it was 300 crates/keys to use all at once on A twitch video) of each. Now I would assume either one of those possiblities would make the prices rise as he more than likely bought the cheapest one avail everytime. Now he could have even bought them over time and not be the cause i'm not sure but A possibility none the less. I also remember reading comments about it and A few people was saying he had A gambling problem or something. But it could have even been for DOTA 2 but I don't think that game has crates/keys anyways, right?

How many keys do you think are sold daily?

500-1000 keys are bought each hour >_> so yeah, 1 guy buying keys is like nothing.

I just don't understand why the rise just on the Brazilian store, that is unjustified if they don't rise on all regions, since our economy is weaker than some other countries (russia region as example) that price makes no sense, it's WAY better buying from the market instead of the Official store, before it was just a little better.

Does it really make A difference if he was american and bought them from an american account? I sold some cards that was to someone of A different nationality as it wasn't american currency symbols in my emails about the sale. Could be completely wrong about this but just though I would throw it out their as well.

Because you can make profit by buying a key for 4.30BRL and selling 5BRL (or more) ?

Very well could be right on for all i know. Never thought about the worth of different currency. Makes sense though.

Prices were pretty even, actually. Keys would sell for 4.9BRL on steam market and you would receive 4.30BRL after fees (the same as the TF2 store). You could only profit 1 or 2 cents on steam market, really. Not really worth it. Now it's just better buying keys on the market.

"Now it's just better buying keys on the market."

Exactly. Vavle gets more money if people buy from the market instead of directly from the store.

the usual market price is 2.30 .. we've (buyers) just been really lucky in the past 2 months

I'd say it's less luck than that it's finally recovered from the summer sale. Before the sale, prices were about $2.20-$2.30, then dropped a lot because of a lot of people buying and selling keys quickly. I expected it to hit $2.30 by the end of August, guess I was off a bit :)

The TF2 market is one of the silliest forms of internet money-making / trading that I have ever seen.

no wonder. its controlled by crowd, which just recently was cry begging their moms for candies/toys in stores, if not continuing to do that... so impact is according

My main problem with the market is that it won't die, and the keys are a main source of trading. Want a specific game? Keys. Specific aesthetic item? Keys. This may sprout from the fact that you can technically get the keys through just playing TF2 and getting some Refs / hats to trade for the keys.

The keys control the market, and from what I've gathered, most of the people who trade keys don't even play TF2. Even if they did, I can't imagine they'd actually spend a lot of their time playing it.

Loving the long awaited return to the $2.30 mark. The 30 or so keys I've hoarded since the Summer sale for dirt-cheap prices will come in handy for trades.

They bumped the brazilian TF2 Store key price, which controlled the market key price, since brazilian keys were the cheapest.

tl;dr It's probably not going down unless the russians want it. (they don't)

EDIT: Brazilian prices are only going to get worse because of the dollar, expect to see publishers rising prices.
