Of course no one would trade with a new account unless the one with lower rep goes first.
Comment has been collapsed.
+1, just go first and avoid low reps as well if you're afraid of getting scammed by going first.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't care about that part but I can't even get that far. People just be like nope.
Comment has been collapsed.
What I'm saying is nobody is even giving the option for me to go first.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well I see you are trading an expensive game Dying Light....the thing is there is tons of scammers with low rep or no rep trying to scam ppl into buying these games by giving fake keys or promises, even after a trade is successfully done there are cases when game is just revoked from Steam account because the seller did charge back in purpose or used stolen card.
Because of these people is harder to new traders to start to trade, for example I won't buy an expensive game from a member with low rep because this can be risky, that's why lots of ppl try to avoid this, sadly it will be hard to you to start even if you are a good guy :( if you start by trading bundle games is easier to get rep.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh. I see. I get that. I'll just use other avenues from now on. I get why people take it serious. I work at gamestop so game keys just fall into my lap... literally.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ah excuse us for not wanting to be scammed out of our hard-earned games, money, tf2 items and so on... It is possible to build a rep, just start with smaller trades, always go first and be trustworthy. I have 60 rep on ST and a bunch of comments on my profile (it's not much, but it's a solid rep regardless) and I started from nothing.
Comment has been collapsed.
I get that. And I definitely understand. But nobody even mention going first or whatever. It's just an immediate denial. Which I get that too so I'm just stuck with a game I don't need is all.
Comment has been collapsed.
I really feel sorry towards you, but you have to understand - this is not against your person - this is happening because people got burnt by cheaters whom they trusted naively. So far I was lucky even in a key-for-key trade, but not everyone can be this lucky.
Comment has been collapsed.
Go for newbie traders like yourself, it's riskier but you are more likely to succeed. I remember I once bought a game from a trader with 0 rep and a relatively fresh profile. The game I bought was bundled the next day, she added me again and she insisted on paying me back the difference as she didn't want to rip me off.
That's probably the nicest thing I ever encountered while trading. Low rep =/= scammer (at least not in most cases).
Comment has been collapsed.
Wow. O_o It's refreshing to hear such positive stories, as all we usually hear about, are people scamming others. On a not-so-unrelated note: is Stalker Call of Pripyat still in your library? I still have it. After 2 weeks, I suppose it's safe to assume it wasn't a scam after all? ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe. I have nothing against that. People want what they want. I just don't want to give up a newish AAA game for peanuts
Comment has been collapsed.
You don't always have to go first. Scammers give themselves +rep comments and use this "rule" to steal cd-keys and items off of people like yourself. You just have to be selective about whom you trade with. Even some legitimate reputable traders are complete assholes that are best avoided out of principle, with newbies being far more genuine and amicable.
Trading is a people thing. Don't be concerned about arbitrary rules and prices since we all follow our own anyway, while the rest follow whatever people tell them to.
Edit: also, what are you trying to trade and where are you trying to trade it?
Comment has been collapsed.
I just posted a trade last week and another today. Can you look through my user name?
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, you could get some of the stuff you wanted. You're just going about it incorrectly. You should convert your game key into TF2 or CSGO keys, then use those to buy your COD games. Black Ops 2 goes for around 7-8 keys maybe. I know COD Ghosts Hardened Edition was around 10 keys/$20 from one seller a week or 2 ago and BO2 goes for less.
Once you have keys then you don't have to worry about cd-keys anymore. And if you didn't know, the reason you want keys is because they're direct steamwallet cash. That's my tip for you anyhoo. Get the key amount right and you're good to go.
Comment has been collapsed.
See im new to this so I have a vague idea of what you are talking about.
Comment has been collapsed.
I was wondering about that. ^^ If you have these http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/440/Mann%20Co.%20Supply%20Crate%20Key or these http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/730/CS%3AGO%20Case%20Key then you can get every game you want on Steam from any user with a copy of it. The trick is determining how many your game is worth and how much the one you want will require.
Every game has general values (what other people are selling them for consistently), but you can always get more or less depending on how good of a trader you are and how quickly you need to trade/sell off your stuff. I recommend seeing what other people are selling their copies for and then deciding where you want to be with it. Also check how much the games you want cost from other traders and calculate how much you'll need.
Comment has been collapsed.
You'd think so, but there are people with hundreds of rep that I trust much less than people I just met. Because for me, it's who the person has traded with and not how many. Quality over quantity thing. It also shows who's a reseller and who's a trader. I prefer traders by far.
Comment has been collapsed.
If you'd like to be the authority on what trading or reselling is or isn't, who am I to disagree? I support conflicting views and don't believe time should be wasted arguing to make everyone agree on the same ones.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm a trader and not a reseller. I exchange things to get the items/games I want. I can profit but that's not my thing. A reseller tends to do things in bulk and would aim for profit/money. While the whole idea of "transaction" is almost synonymous, I differentiate between the act of trading/exchanging and the act of selling/exchanging.
And it's perfectly fine if we disagree on this and you want to say that we're all sellers if we do any type of transaction. I wasn't being sarcastic about conflicting views. But since I actively avoid resellers then being able to differentiate between them and traders is useful for me.
Comment has been collapsed.
Trader or Reseller is no problem at all
The issue is about responsibility
Say a game get revoked, did the trader / reseller give a refund ?
I once buy game from a trader with 150 Rep and CD Key get revoked and
boom.... run like hell :|
It's the responsibility
Comment has been collapsed.
Precisely why I say some high rep users are assholes. Like one trader bragging about profiting from an exploited free key grab and selling multiple copies of it while believing it would revoke for the buyers (otherwise he would have sold them for way more, but he was convincing them to invest on the low cost = low risk principle). You'd think hundreds or thousands of reps would mean something but no. Some people see others as just tools to exploit for profit.
While reps give an indication for the level of experience of traders you're dealing with, their measure of character is something only you can judge accurately. Which is why I always tell people to be VERY selective. You'll eventually find your own circle of people and trading will become much faster and friendlier.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's possible to. I do it all of the time. The more you do it the faster and better you become at it. Just need practice. :D
Comment has been collapsed.
No. I'm a reader, not a psychic. It would take some time and question probing to get an exact profile. People aren't very different at the basic levels so once you have points of reference to compare people to then you can connect the dots.
It's really simple and anyone can do that much. Especially if you've met someone exactly like the person you're dealing with. The more types of people you understand, the easier it is to understand a stranger once they fit those criteria.

Checked out your topics. Getting lots of lowballs from bundle offers. D:
If I had something to offer, I'd go ahead and do so, but I only have more bundle junk and a few other cheap games I picked up on sale.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks. That's another thing. I want to at least get something worthy since it is a newish game.
Comment has been collapsed.
Fair enough, its as you deserve. Hate that some people will make offers of a game they got in a $1 bundle for such.
Comment has been collapsed.
Too lazy to check them... D:
Oh i see, Dying Light, that is why they dont want to trade D:
New user, Dying Light key and no rep, they are just wary, poor guy D:
Comment has been collapsed.
I just dislike people doing such offers. If they aren't interested, don't try to rip off a newbie to make some profit.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, you are selling a quite expesive key, maybe it's just hard to find a buyer? Specially if you are not selling it cheap. Maybe also pple worry it'll get revoked in the future.

Well I just got back onto pc gaming. I'm usually on consoles and steam is something I'm just starting on. Everybody starts from somewhere right? Plus the majority of the games on steam I either have on PS3 PS4 Xbox 360 or Xbox One so there's no point in buying a game twice. The only console game I have that I have on pc are just cause 2 and Skyrim and that's cause those are my fave games. But hey. I'm not sweating it. It's still sitting in my email. Hopefully somebody will want it. I'd rather it not go to waste you know.
Comment has been collapsed.
I honestly have to agree with Jenna. Your profile just seems well..dull. No profile picture, no showcasing any items. No offence, but that's how a scammers profile, not a bot but an actual scammers profile would look like.
Having a ton of games can make you look good. But since you can't do that then just don't sweat it, but there are a couple of things that you should do.
Put a background
Don't put a "selfie" as your profile picture, it dosen't matter if it's you or not, just don't do it
Do some "profile showcasing things"
But once again, don't sweat not having a ton of games. Over time they will add up. After taking a quick look at your profile, it's obvoius to see that most of your games aren't junk bundle games. A quick, easy way to get some games quick is to check this this website everyday. It simply is games that are given away from Indiegala, WGN, DHL, etc.
Comment has been collapsed.
I just by stuff. I usually don't do bundles because they usually contain a lot of games I have on console or just have no interest in
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't do bundles either, I do the free games that Indiegala, WGN, DHL, etc give away.
Anyways it dosen't matter if that pic. is your selfie or not. Just take it off IMO and put something else.
Edit: Lol your doing a duck face.
Comment has been collapsed.
Eh. I guess it's a waiting game. I've never even asked for something super great. Oh well. I'll just wait. I just know what to expect when my Witcher 3 key arrives.
Comment has been collapsed.
maybe you should try to trade at first with small games from bundles...
Comment has been collapsed.
I mean I just have the one key right now. This isn't something I usually do. I just figured I could trade it away and move on. I see it's not that simple.
Comment has been collapsed.
i understand that but like you said, that game is about 30$ and that is not a usal trade...
i also thing the most people will not have a big problem if you go first... but than you should be sure that you can trust the other one...
i mean, we all start with zero rep :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Actually it's still 59.99. I check everyday. And I don't even want anything that expensive in return. Just something I don't already own.
Comment has been collapsed.
i mean you ask 30$ for it ;)
don't get me wrong. price seems nice for a new game...
maybe the better way is what mention above: trade for tf2 keys and use them to trade your wanted game.
because now you need someone who has your game and also want your game...
Comment has been collapsed.
Isnt TF a free game? Well F2p anyway. How does that work.
Comment has been collapsed.
it is about this: https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Mann_Co._Supply_Crate_Key
in the tradecomunity it is something like a currency. you see this if you look a bit through the threads... there are a lot of people talking about "keys, refs and tods"
MaximumBunny has allready explained above
Comment has been collapsed.
I started by offering trading Cards for cheap bundle games. As time went on I've usually been able to trade games for games or if the game wasn't bundled I would offer keys to get it.
Shit takes a while, but once you start building up that REP there is nothing like it.
You just have to be careful of scammers who might leave you bad REP because you won't trade with them.
Comment has been collapsed.
you can always involve a mediator or have someone attest to you being legit. My friend who had no rep traded a very big item thanks to me just letting the other trader know he could be trusted and him going first easy peasy - edit: good luck! I'm happy to help if you need some
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks guys. The ones that actually tried to help. Idk what Groundnuts was attempting to say but whatevs. I'll keep trying and explore other avenues.
Comment has been collapsed.
this is how to do it.
When its small trades of cards for a bundle game people don't mind trading on low rep.
I built my empire one trade at time. Now look at me i'm OVER A HUNDRED! WOW b$_$llls
Comment has been collapsed.
Yup. That was me and this was not directed at you or anybody really. Just general wonder of what to do. It's like damned if you do damned if you havnt. And I had not have I ever had an issue going first. I've never even been given the option.
Comment has been collapsed.
Weird, when I had zero rep on trades here (not like I have a lot more either but that's not the point), I could always do some trading by going first.
Here's an idea: put up your stuff in a thread, bump is alot and wait till peeps take on your offer and reply. That way there's no way that they won't give you the option not to go first since they reply to your ad and will contact you. It's like fishing really :p
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not sure it is so much that you have 0 rep - it is that you have 0 rep AND you are selling a key for an expensive new popular game. I have no reason to believe you aren't legit but too many people have been burned by that kind of trade. Even if you go first or use a middleman people will be afraid of the key getting revoked due to credit card fraud, etc. Which does very much happen. And if you sell it cheap people are even more wary of 'too good to be true' deals.
It isn't fair but it is how it is.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's going to be worse. People are instantly going to assume he is a scammer.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, that depends on what he says... Just saying something like "I have Dying Light, want "x" keys for it" might be seen as an attempt to scam. But if he starts by explaining his situation, that could make people more willing to trade. Just my two cents.
Comment has been collapsed.
^This. People are usually lazy. (I know I am...a bit) I think a lot of traders on steamtrades don't look actively for the games they want, they just assume people will stop by and offer them a deal. So, yeah, if you search for those who want Dying Light, you might be able to settle for something more quickly. :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I did a bit of buying before the whole region lock fiasco. I made sure to only deal with people that have been around a while and have a long history of great rep. Of course, that meant that I had to go first in all of the trades, but they all went swimmingly. Plus, I found a couple of reliable traders to keep going back to.
Comment has been collapsed.
I have traded a bunch of bundle games on steamtrades for cards. I have mostly gotten 6-12 cards per game. People don't really scam each other over bundle games or a few cards - it isn't worth the negative rep. It is a good way to build rep.
Comment has been collapsed.
normaly it is like this: the one with lower rep goes first. even if its for cheap bundle games.
and yes, you can def. trade bundle games for cards.
Comment has been collapsed.
it depens on what game it was and what cards you would like to have... :)
at least the amount of cards that the game will drop (of course) but it is hard to say... i mean there are games in bundles that you just can give away because no one will trade them but there are also bundles with very good games where you will get maybe 10 cards or something...
just post your list in the trade section and let's see what people are willing to bet. maybe they take 2,3 or 4 games directly so you don't have to deal with all that stuff to much :)
Comment has been collapsed.
have a look on profile page and talk a bit to the people... i traded with ~50 people and there was just one person who tried to scamm.
like everywhere on web: use brain.exe and you are save :)
happy traiding

and if you really want to get into trading ( you're a little late i guess.cross region game trading is more restricted now ) review the trades in st.You will get a idea on how to trade without getting sharked.Starting with hb bundle games for ref or key seems to be a good idea.
Comment has been collapsed.
So let me ask this. Is it possible to add the key to my inventory as a gift that I can then give to someone else
Comment has been collapsed.
Make giveaways and ask people to leave you a +Rep on your profile.. that works.

I think it sucks that you can't get Rep without trades but no one will trade with you if you don't have Rep. I'm sitting on a valuable steam key that I don't need because I have the game already. Is there other ways to get Rep? It sucks because I'm being treated like a rep-less leper.
