A silly thought before actually reading this thread: 'Epic Store is releasing music too, now? Whu-what?'
I gave Bravestone a listen, and can see it as for a game or movie trailer for sure. Definitely EPIC worthy. And oh my that build then DROP in Bloodstream though :o Interesting recommendations though from you & everyone. I'm keeping tabs on this thread for some possible new discoveries (particularly the electronic ones)
It's like the music is telling a story that evokes strong feelings, and it's bringing you along for the ride. Your emotion soars with when the notes soar and when they plummet, your emotion goes down as well - it can be quite the roller-coaster sometimes :P
So true. What would the world be without sounds & music? It's crazy, yet amazing that these exists in our lifetime/world.

Hehe, it would be a real shocker if they really did that :P

Yeah, "Epic music" is also known as "Cinematic music", and it's pretty self-explanatory how they got that "a.k.a." :)

I'm glad that we are all able to help! :)

I'm glad that we are all able to help! :)
:) Oh and can I ask, during your uni days, did you try listening to maybe more calm or chill music instead of these kinds of epic, more louder ones? Did the latter fit more of your preference and/or really helped you instead?
I think personally, when I'm stressed/anxious/or even trying to focus, I gravitate towards that soothing or even "sad" music lol.

Tried a few, such as Kiss the Rain by Yiruma (A classic, I know :) ), but those types of music just make me feel rather sleepy (The sleep deprivation is real!) so I generally shy away from them when I need some "hype music" to get things done.
And you're right, when I'm stressed and just want to relax, I'd opt for slower and more soothing tunes.
Some of the epic music can be loud but there are a couple that's not too loud (I find some Celtic and fantasy stuff fits perfectly here). Plus, what I tend to do is to lower the volume so that even when the music reaches its crescendo, it's still not too distracting (distracting = to the point where I'd stop whatever I'm doing and start "conducting" an invisible orchestra :P)

Oh yes! I have fallen asleep to some tracks. And it totally makes sense to play the more upbeat "hype" music to get sh*t done. Keeps you motivated.

Heh. You and this lady would probably be best friends then. She's feelin it

wow, I'm definitely learning something new.. there's something new to learn every day =P never heard of this before.. I knew about epic metal, I thought of bands like rhapsody playing power metal with orchestras, or turisas and so on but I wasn't definitely thinking about these genres =P

It might not fit into epic, but is one of my favorites

I'm not sure if its a fit but this is fantasy orchestral music that gets pretty grand at times -

Thanks for sharing! We've got some SGers who are really into electronic music and I'm they'd be thrilled by your recommendation :)
I'm honestly not sure if electronic music counts as "Epic music" though since I've often associated that genre of music with mostly orchestral/symphonic music. I'll just add them under a new list :)

Mark Petrie - Richat, not in any game I know of
Rob Dougan - Chateau, from Matrix Reloaded movie soundtrack
65daysofstatic - Supermoon, in No Man's Sky
Anything else I regularly listen to that I'd consider epic doesnt have semi-classical elements.

Mark Petrie - Richat, not in any game I know of
It doesn't have to be in a game :) And thanks a lot for this - that drop is just amazing! :D
Rob Dougan - Chateau, from Matrix Reloaded movie soundtrack
The music is tad bit hard to hear in that version though I thoroughly enjoyed the iconic fight scene :)
For anyone interested, here's a clearer version of the music
65daysofstatic - Supermoon, in No Man's Sky
Same here :) -> the original epic music
Fantastic recommendations, thanks a lot! :)

Glad you enjoyed my recommendations! BTW Mark has evidently done some game soundtracks and trailer music, which is why many of his tracks like this are relatively short. See more here: https://m.soundcloud.com/mark-22/
I was actually introduced to him & Richat through this amusing older Warframe video
It doesn't have to be in a game
Sure, but I thought I'd note that since this forum is gaming related ;)

Oh, I missed out adding Mark to the list - thanks for the soundcloud link! :)
Edit: OMG, I'm completely smitten by his Approaching the Summit album right now - Aeons is probably the best of the lot. This is some seriously-amazing epic music right here! :D

Blizzard Soundtracks are always great, especially in World of Warcraft.

Great music piece imo and is part of GTA IV

The vid in the link has been removed :) So here's a new one: https://youtu.be/nq_SpRBXRmE
I am pretty sure Pruit Igoe by Philip Glass fits to that genre
Honestly, I'm not sure but I'm no expert >.< It just doesn't sound epic enough for me, probably because the build-up of the original music (referring to the link I've added) is a tad bit too slow. It's more classical than epic I'd say :P
Still, it's a recommendation that I think some SGers would like :) Added and thanks!

I don't listen that much anymore. However I can recommend these Singers / Composers:
-Christopher Ting (Civilization Games and others) - Baba Yetu
-Michael McCann (Deus Ex:Human Revolution). Icarus - Main Theme and Barret Boss Fight are my favs
-Michiel Van Den Bos / Alexander Brandon - (A lot of Epic Games, most notably the Unreal Series) - Temple of Vandora aka Ruins is my fav from Unreal
-Clannad (First Celtic group I ever heard) - Robin (The Hooded Man)
-Enya (Most known for Lord of the Rings). - Aniron
-Era - Hymne and Champions, Among others
-Karl Jenkins - Ademius

-Christopher Tin (Civilization Games and others) - Baba Yetu
I refrained from adding this because I thought it's more of a "non-English song" rather than "epic music", but f this, I'll add it - I just love Baba Yetu. Even the covers are astounding!
-Michael McCann (Deus Ex:Human Revolution). Icarus - Main Theme and Barret Boss Fight are my favs
How did I miss this? I used to listen to the OST for days on end :P Thanks for bringing this up!
-Michiel Van Den Bos - (A lot of Epic Games, most notably the Unreal Series) - Temple of Vandora aka Ruins is my fav from Unreal
Added! Not my kind of jam, but I'm sure there will be others who enjoy listening to this :)
-Enya (Most known for Lord of the Rings). - Aniron
Love Enya - she produces music that's in its own, unique category :)
Funnily enough, because of Enya, I enjoy listening to Within Temptation and Evanescence's songs as well -It's the singing I guess- despite the very obvious genre differences between the two :P
-Era - Hymne and Champions, Among others
-Karl Jenkins - Ademius
Anyone who loves Enya would love Ademius :) Really liked the two tracks you've linked for Era as well, but these are New Age songs and not really Epic Music so I'm not going to add them into the list. Still, these are really epic recommendations though, thanks! :)

Thanks. Christopher Tin does have other albums besides Civilization I think.
Michael Van Den Bos may not be so popular and I haven't seen anything new in a while. But if it helps he composed the Original Deus Ex Soundtrack with Alexander Brandon. Still I remember them more for Unreal / Unreal Tournament GOTY & 2004

P/S: Sorry! Just realized I've made the rookie mistake of NOT saving my updates >.< Anyway, I've just re-added the 3 additions I supposedly added earlier. Going through the latest recommendations now :)
By the way, I totally did not regret creating this discussion thread - You all got some truly fantastic stuff to recommend, many of which I have not heard before. Thanks a lot! ^^

I'm not sure if someone already shared this one, I had no time to check all the links posted; I'm sorry for that. I'm a big fan of epic music.
Recently I'm listening quite often to Efisio Cross's work (I don't care about the religious theme which is behind the tracks, but still, most of them touch the right chord for me)
My favourite one
His new album

Love this genre. I'd love to add some recommendations:
Misha Segal - The Phantom of the Opera (1989, the Robert Englud one
NightWish - Ghost Love Score
Stargate Soundtrack - David Arnold
Prince of Egypt - Deliver Us
The Dark Crystal Theme
What Dreams May Come OST- Michael Kamen

I discovered this genre of music a bit late I guess - back when I was in uni and I needed something - anything - to help me focus while I study. A friend recommended that I Google "Epic music", did that, stumble upon some tunes on YouTube, and never looked back since! :)
It's like the music is telling a story that evokes strong feelings, and it's bringing you along for the ride. Your emotion soars with when the notes soar and when they plummet, your emotion goes down as well - it can be quite the roller-coaster sometimes :P
Plus, the music never gets old - I can listen to the same music again and I'd feel the same way about the music like the first time I've heard it - and I can just loop my playlist of epic music over and over :)
My all-time favorite composer is definitely Thomas Bergersen and his colleagues over at Two Steps from Hell (their most recent work - Bravestone), but I also enjoy listening to mostly Celtic/fantasy tunes from smaller but very talented composers on YouTube like Peter Crowley, and Adrian von Ziegler
Tokio Myers is another talented musician/composer - check out his most popular track so far Bloodstream. Found him via BGT and he's just incredible both live (just check out his BGT vids) and in the studio.
Other notable composers of epic music (in no particular order):
-- I highly recommend checking out his Approaching the Summit album, with Aeons being my favorite among the lot :)
This is probably more classical than epic :P
I'm not sure if these count as Epic Music but if you're an electronic music fan, you might want to give them a try :)
Note that besides the few Soundcloud and Spotify links, the rest are YouTube links.
Oh and although this isn't epic music, I'll just put this out there :P - Melodysheep - especially if you like techno and science, check out its Symphony of Science series. This one "by" auto-tuned celeb scientists plus Morgan Freeman is (still) my favorite of the lot :)
Do you guys and gals like to listen to epic music? Which music/composers do you listen to? Put your recommendations below - I could use a bit more epic music in my life right now :)
What is Epic Music?
I've noticed that a lot of people have not heard of this (relatively new?) music genre, and for some reason, I can only find the Dutch version of the wikipedia page for the term.
Used Google translate and this is what I get:
