You DL the FF Portal app first, and then through that you download FF2.

The app says you will be charged for it (FF2), if you play it after the free period.

EDIT: Upon re-reading the details, I'm probably wrong. If you DOWNLOAD it after the free period, it's not free, which makes sense.

How does that even work? They can't make auto-payments like that, at least not on iOS.

This isn't a subscription though, this statement says that if you play you will be charged. Also FFXI is not out on mobile yet. :P

Wrong, you will be charged for it when you try to download it after the promo is over.

I'm not even sure that's the case. I think that you "purchase" it now, and if you delete it you can still download it later. Not sure though.

Edit: Check out the announcement on the app, and it looks like at least on Android if you delete it it's gone for good (unless purchased). The app specifically mentions Android, so it's possible that iOS users do keep the app even if it's uninstalled.

Eh, I own the GBA Dawn of Souls version. And if I wanted better graphics, the PSP version is rather cheap.

Oh, I thought you could dl FF2 and then keep it forever for free.

That's kinda lame, Square Enix.

If you download it now and don't delete the app, you can keep it forever.

The Portal App is really bad. It's difficult to navigate and find what you own, but it's free, so... :)

Now they've given both Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II for free there. Hopefully they keep going. :)

Thanks for letting us know. I've always wanted to try one of the FF. Unfortunately the game is totally unplayable as moving around is not working properly. Deleted it already so this was not a very good start with FF I guess :)

Thanks for the info. I have never played a FF game and I have recently become interested in trying them. From what I have read, the story is not connected between the games and there isn't much of a difference between the first 2 games other than the leveling system and slightly more story (which I like), so FF2 sounds like a good place to start for me.

I was thinking about finding some cheap cartridges on Ebay to play on my NES, but they are much more expensive than I thought they would be.

Thank you for the heads up. I don't play mobile games, but I have a long plane trip soon and this will keep me entertained.

It's not free to download even after you have it after 14 Feb - I just checked.

I'll just pirate it anyway. Not worth the hassle. I've beaten all final fantasies (except online ones) and have no wish to pay for non remakes. xD

Please note that purchase is necessary to download the app AFTER the free download period has ended. If the app is deleted AFTER the free download period on an Android device, users must pay to download the app again.

Pretty sure once you get it downloaded, you get to keep it.

Ya I downloaded the FF1 for free through the portal app similarly. As long as you don't delete the app, you keep it for free.

For android, you always have to be online to use it. So you can't play it offline or on the subway.
