I'll be honest - daylight savings is something I don't think I'll ever understand.

Nope, no longer in use here. Back in the late 2000's the national government tried to bring the summer timezone back but after testing it for a couple of years almost all the provinces refused to comply anymore so they just dropped it, we're in the wrong timezone to begin with anyway and people refuse to fix it because everyone got used to it.

Theorically i thought it was removed here too but still not. At start in the 1970' it was to save electric power, or that's what they explained.

They used the same excuse here, but apparently it never really worked as intended and the difference in electricity consumption was too small to justify the whole thing.

Yeah, we still do it. I don't really care about it. Can wake up whenever I want. 😛
But it's getting dark earlier now. That's nice!
(except when you take a "short" midday nap and wake up in the dark 🙄)

Thanks for the giveaways!

Yes, sometimes it's not easy to understand at first.
Yeah, somehow I like autumn/winter more than the warm season. Everything feels calmer. And of course, not so hot. Oh, and you don't need to mow the lawn. ;)

Well, these lamps look inventive. That is something different. :)

There has been a lot of talks in Europe about stopping it but it just gets pushed forward and forward. They even agreed upon it in 2019 to end it in 2021 and then nothing happened! (⊙_☉)
I wish they would just abolish it already. It's so unnecessary in my opinion.

Those plans were buried due to Covid epidemic, suddenly they decided the change in time adjustment was not top priority anymore. Personally I don't understand that explanation, it would have taken perhaps an hour to decide "ok, we won't do it anymore and that's it". Now it's up to current EU presidency country and the next one (Belgium) has already stated they are not going to do anything about it since they support the current system.

Ugh Belgium (My country btw) I'm not surprised to be honest. Everything needs to take forever in Belgium to get done and then they end up doing nothing. :( Sorry about that! :/
Let's hope for the Presidency after then.

I hate it. Especially the part when I try to sleep but my kids are waking up how they are used to (ignoring artificial time). For example clock is showing 5:30 and they are waking us up because for them it's still 6:30 xD

We do it here, but the worst part is some states don't. So you end up in border town situations where the time changes simply by crossing over. It might be useful in some niche circumstances, but for the most part, it just creates more confusion than anything else.

This year, all my clocks changed automatically, but for some reason, one of my phones kept the old time until I turned it off and on again, even though it was set to change automatically.

Thanks. Yes, not sure what you mean about border town thing. Basically, they're transport hubs, so towns end up growing around borders as stopovers for trucks and trains. Even if other small towns die out due to lack of services, and people moving to the city, hub towns continue.

Once again i misread i thought it was regional borders.
From what you describe it's even more confusing.

Where the states meet at the border, there's usually a road and train station that all cargo must go through. So these hubs end up being on the borders of states for cross state trade.

The residential zone is often in one state, with the industrial area on the other side. So every time you cross the border, the time zone changes, which just makes it confusing for everyone.

Most people just ignore the residential time, and keep to the industrial, but it's also a place where tourists stop for lunch, and people often get confused about it.

My country got rid of daytime saving this very year, but it sure has been troublesome to coordinate games and sessions with friends in other countrys that still use it. But it was annoying prior aswell; since some countrys used to change their clocks a week or weeks before or after us.

Its quite fascinating how people collectively decide to change their clocks and readjust themselves. My time zone thankfully is safe from such manipulations.😌

As an electrical engineer, I understand the technical justification. I also think it's pretty bad and outdated and has ceased to make sense quite a while ago.

As a citizen, I hate it. Thankfully some years ago our government decided to let go of it and hasn't gone back on this decision yet.

When normal time returns in autumn, like now, I don't really notice it. Except that I wake up an hour too early. But in the spring it's a whole different story, it messes up my sleep cycle so very badly. Last spring it took three weeks before I could sleep properly again. I really, honestly, hate this stupid concept.

When the EU polled us about summertime time I was part of the minority voting in favor of keeping it. And I don't mind that they fail to end it because they can't come up with an alternative that suits all EU countries better. :-p
