What do you think?
What would it show when you're not a member of one of the group? Now when you click you get error message.
Also what it does show normally when you click, when say you're part of 1 out of 3 groups? All names or just the name of the group you're part of? I can't check it, as I can see everything by default.

Then I don't see a reason for not have it, esp that I think it would be used to limit number of requests that scripts are making?
It would require change in the site code, as now we don't have any dynamic generated information as a pop up to buttons. So it could take a lot of time to implement, if ever.

Either nothing, or same message as now "You do not have permission to view this giveaway, since you are not a member of the giveaway creator's whitelist, or the required Steam groups." only you won't need the extra click to see it.

I can sadly see that get abused by people that would then enter any of those groups that happened to be public.
Been a long time, but I think that might have been a feature when I first joined the site.

Yeah, but at least those people are valid members for one of the groups in the giveaway to see the other groups.

Hmm, not quite getting your point about the abuse. Isn't that what public groups make giveaways for - to attract new people?
And yes, back in the day we could see all the group's names on hover, even if we weren't a member of any of them. Never quite understood why that was changed.

I remember finding people in about 50 different country groups and many others back in the day. These were people that weren't there for the community, just what they could get out of each group.

Well some people are not so-nice. And I can see them going on Steam and spam owners of "good groups" in order to get in. As there are users who keep applying for groups, even when they clearly don't meet the group requirements to join. I have written on my profile I don't accept random invites, and still get one every other week or so.
Now they can't see neither groups nor the members. So have no place to start the digging. They may visit Steam profile of user who makes a lot of "good giveaways", but they will be not able to localize for which private group it was done specifically.
I agree that in case of public groups it makes no sense, as they don't care who joins. And chances are low to win there anything.

Might just be me, but I always found it annoying. Sure, they were public groups, but built around various communities. There was a GameFAQs (I think Poll of the Day or GameFAQs group) giveaway in the past by a friend who wanted to give to users who found this site from me, the winner didn't even know the site, never mind have an account. They just saw a new game while checking profiles and jumped into the group.
Just a case of both choices have advantages and disadvantages. Obvious which I prefer, but doesn't mean this can't be changed if users want it.

Are you aware how many steam users just randomly join *any* public group with no reason whatsoever?
Just like that, not even for giveaways and plenty without an sg acc still try to join SG-only specific private groups (per request).
a friend who wanted to give to users who found this site from me
If you want to have exactly those users then only let those in. Making the group public does exactly the opposite.
No need to blame and thus undermine useful features for that.

I totally understand your frustration with that. But as you yourself said, there's already an issue with people getting into public groups who know nothing about the group. (As an aside, how does someone not know about GameFAQs? Though I guess I had no idea there was a GameFAQs group on SG...)
With public groups, there's always going to be an issue with random people getting in - it's the price of public groups. It's clearly already an issue, as you illustrate, so I'm not sure that letting people on SG see what groups are doing what giveaways would really change anything. It may result in some groups becoming private, but if they wanted to avoid having random people join they really should have been private all along...

Not everyone uses scripts. You may not be able to install them on the work browser for example.
And having option in-built into the site would make it easier for them.
Same as having dark theme would be useful, without having to go for external themes :hehe:

Seems like a greater problem with the esgst itself on your side. Maybe post about it in the esgst discussion to get better help or try to reinstall esgst.

In the main screen with the list of giveaways, we see who is giving away a game, we see it's value, wee even see how many entries it got, but we have no way of telling to which groups it's given away, without the (redundant) extra step of going to the groups page to check.
It would really help if the groups names were available in the main screen.
Especially considering the new traffic limitations which limit the number of requests per minute any script can send to SteamGifts.
In case the groups list is too long to appear in full (either too many groups or too long names) there can be a cutoff point with ... in the end. Like we have right now with game names which are too long to display.
EDIT: In case it's unclear:
A user will not be able to see groups he's unable to see now (for example if he's not part of the giveaway groups).
In case a user IS able to see groups now, he would be able to see them without needing the extra click.
