Even without the common monopoly problem much of the world has with teleservices, you get the problem we have here, that's called polyopoly, and is perfectly legal sadly. All the big companies just agree to not compete so they all profit. It's getting better, especially the cell market, so many small companies popping up in recent years destroying the big evil guys prices.
Polyopoly behavior is extremely illegal in the banking industry, a bank can be straight up shut down for it, and that's how it should be with all businesses

I pay around 40 USD here in France. There is no fiber where I live, but for that price I have 1.7 to 1.8 Mo/s real download speed. It's DSL, so bandwidth is not symetric: uploads are slow as about 110 ko/s peak. There is also in the package a TV box with blu-ray player and many included channels (it' working fine), and unlimited country-wide calls (static lines and mobiles). I guess some foreign countries are also included as unlimited calls (maybe static lines only for this part).

Something like 16$. It's like 1000RUB in my currency. 100Mbps. Not that bad.

I pay $34 for supposedly 38Mbps unlimited Fibre connection.
In reality: sometimes 4mb/s download speed but usually the net is so slow that even a 240p youtube video won't load. However I think it's because of the cheapo crappy usd wifi adapter I have that frequently overheats and drops the line.

All this talk about net neutrality has got me thinking about how much a free market actually does to keep price competitive, especially with all the monopolies that telecommunication companies have all over the world.
I currently pay $40 USD a month for 200Mbps fibre internet, home line with free local calls and a "slightly" unreliable IPTV. And more for cable TV obviously. I could have 1 Gbps for the same price without IPTV but no switching mobile phones every year. So how much do you pay for your internet? I live in Singapore BTW and I feel so bad about complaining right now...
Actually I just want to give away a copy of Contrast but need a reason to open a thread. LVL 1 and above only though.
Edit: Over sorry.
P.S. Obligatory John Oliver video. That man's a genius.
