My favorite of the series, in just story and atmosphere and what not, was TES III, Morrowind. I didn't like Oblivion so much because it became too punishing with enemies that took little damage, and dealt a lot.

As soon as I hit the Oblivion, some of the creatures would take too little damage, while dealing too much. In fact, the part where you are taking back a castle from creatures from the Oblivion was all but impossible for me. I ended up modding in a bunch of companions so I would at least get the story out of the game, but they had a bunch of stuff on them when I finished the first Oblivion part, and they were left behind and got reset, destroying all the items. I will try it again, but there were too many problems for me.

Isn't Morrowind (III) the best of them all still?? Go for that shit.
Don't waste your time with Oblivion IMO.

Never played morrowind but Oblivion is much better then Skyrim in my opinion.
Skyrim has questlines that make you the leader of each faction a week after you joined. In oblivion the questlines are much longer with a lot more story behind them. (and you don't get to be leader of the thieves guild until you've proven that you are a master thief, without killing)

ehh I don't know about this, for example the companions in Skyrim (basically fighters guild) was stupid short, while the fighters guild in oblivion AND Morrowind were about as long/city and there were, what, 6 cities or something?
or the mages guild, same sort of thing. That quest-line was gigantic compared to Skyrim's.
still, Morrowind's were much much longer and there were so many more options.

I enjoy Oblivion and the freedom to take my own path, and counter to the idea that I can take on anything no matter where I go, I usually have to be very crafty to win battles. I want to enjoy Morrowind, but my main holdback is dealing with the inventory, iirc. Everything is tiny icons that I have to manipulate completely with my mouse, dragging things one by one, and it was just really frustrating and repetitive to try and loot stuff, sell stuff, etc. Things like clicking to transfer rather than dragging would be helpful, as well as some kind of list view so I can see what things are more easily. It's disappointing that I'm getting held up by the interface, because I don't mind the reading at all and would really like to experience the game. Maybe sometime I'll realize I missed something obvious or find a workaround or mod that helps, though...

I might be totally wrong / mixing things up here but can't you double-click on things in Morrowind to transfer them between inventories / sell stuff
also wasn't there a dispose corpse button that looted the whole inventory of the enemy at once?

Played Morrowind alot when it was released, i guess 200+ hours and mods and i actually attempted to do my own mods. Never played oblivion or skyrim though, im afraid to play them for 200+ hours again, but i bought oblivion on this sale, so........

Morrowind, yes, absolutely. Morrowind is an oustanding game, and while it does have its issues, the interesting setting and environment more than makes up for it. It also has plenty of stellar mods (remember, never play a TES game unmodded).
Oblivion though, well, it gets rather boring quite fast. It lacks the interesting environments, and there are several things that just detracts from the immersion (like the voice acting, voiced by far too few voice actors). Even modded to oblivion and beyond, Oblivion still stands out as the weaker of the post Daggerfall main TES titles.
Also, you can get both Arena & Daggerfall for free (legally), and it might be worth checking out at least daggerfall. These two games have not aged super well, and Daggerfall is just flat out superior to Arena, but they do have some interesting aspects, and are huge.
For the record, Daggerfall was my first TES game, and I had played both Redguard & Battlespire before Morrowind was released.

Now that you own both, you could always just play Morroblivion. It puts Morrowind into the Oblivion game engine!
I haven't tried this yet, but I'm pretty sure I will once I go back to Morrowind after playing Skyrim.

Look into Skywind, then. I haven't checked the development in quite some time, but it was looking really good the last time I saw it.

You only really need The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind (with expansions). It's the best in the series, from a gameplay and game systems perspective. It will keep you busy for hundres of hours and if you ever moved on to Oblivion or Skyrim you will most likely be dissappointed in what you find.

Morrowind is really awesome! One of my favourite games; if you want to buy only one of these, it should be Morrowind. :)

I've heard they are good games, but I don't have a lot of money. Now I might buy both, should I? And Oblivion Deluxe, is it worth it? Or should I save for the Christmas Sale?
