Lets put all our 2018s to the test, and put them into perspective.

I am not asking: how was 2018 for humanity, but how was it for you?
Were you healthy, or were you ill?
Did you lose someone who was close to you, or did find someone to be close to?

I, like many others I suppose, lost someone this year, I cared for so much it left deep scars.
I am (happy and priviliged to be) in good health though, and I pray you are too,
and if you are not, I pray 2019 will make you feel so much better.

Perhaps 2018 has been good to you?
Share with us your joy.

In the poll, I suppose we should end up with a normalcurve.
Or maybe not.
Perhaps sgers are particularly lucky, or unlucky.
Perhaps they feel more or less happy then one would statistically expect?
Perhaps 2018 was just a great or terrible year for everyone?
Lets find out.

Better than 2017. Nothing majorly bad happened to me or to those close to me. Had a particularly memorable birthday celebration (almost forgot about it, that's what a few busy months will do :), so that was nice. Was generally healthy, generally busy, bought some nice stuff I did nothing much with, had some nice ideas I'll never bring to fruition, the usual. :)

2018 was a very mixed bag for me, some really good things happened, but also a lot of horrible stuff, more than in any other year in my recent memory...

From good stuff:

  • I travelled a lot, visited Spain, Greece, Germany, Sicily, and Prague, plus several shorter trips in my own country.
  • I finally started upgrading my PC after years of putting it for further date. Already got a top-notch case (actually I won it as I'd never pay over 100$ for a PC case xD), new mobo, new CPU, more RAM, my very first SSD, only thing left for new year is buying some good GPU. Saving up a little and probably going for 1070 TI.
  • Been to several conventions, met authors I enjoy, met new people.
  • I spent a lot more time cooking compared to last year, and as I really enjoy cooking, as it helps me relax it's a great thing. Learned quite a few new dishes, some from cuisines I've had no exp[erience with, came up with some recipes of my own, bought more cooking equipment - generally good stuff :)

From bad stuff:

  • One of my closest friends had horrible car accident at the start of the year, ended up in coma, now is facing years of rehabilitation before he will be able to even walk again...
  • My fiancee got diangnosed with serious illness, as a result we had to move to a diet, we also fought a lot because of that, as she's not taking it too good :/
  • I had a big big fight with my mother (who I consider my closest family and one of the very few family members I even have contact with) and ended not speaking with her other for 1/3 of the year. I also missed family Easter because of that.
  • Our close friends separated then divorced after 6 years of marriage and 10 years of being together and we got caught up in the middle of their fight, being forced to choose sides, hearing them pulling all the dirt possible on each other, they even tried to trick us into making other one suffer etc...
  • I've struggled with my own mental health and continue to struggle with it a lot.

Anyway, I voted 3, as much as some really good stuff happened to me, the bad stuff was so bad it overpowers most of the good things :/

Sounds like a year you won't quickly forget. I wish you a healthy, more conflictfree 2019 that will involve lots of enjoyable cooking, for set diet or otherwise.

School is sort of the thing that dominants my life at the moment so it's the first thing I thought about. Every semester it seems to get more and more stressful yet somehow I get through it as I have in the past. Slowly getting my marks now so I guess that could partly determine how well my 2018 went.

The only other thing I can think of is getting in METAL GEAR SOLID. I've had such a fun time with the games. Gameplay is great and story mixes both fun, seriousness, and just stuff that messes with your mind. This has been a pretty recent thing though, since I kind of can't think much else of 2018. I guess I tend to think in the moment.

I'm sorry for your loss. For me it was not the best year, but it could be worse, at least I and people close to me are still alive, and I thankful for this. Nothing special in real life, but I have many pleasant memories related to Steamgifts this year.
I wish you and people close to you, and everyone all the best in the next year!

I've spent lot of time of past 2 years renovating an apartment from 1930s with my wife. Very stressful. But we have finished and live here, so it's all good now!

  • Ended a relationship that was in hindsight pretty toxic - 9
  • Got rejected by my crush - 4
  • Started cosplaying and met many fantastic people thanks to that - 10
  • Finally officially came out to my mother about being bi (but being much more into girls than guys, like Kinsey 4.5 or something), her reaction basically boiled down to "oh, so I won't be a grandmother? :D" - 10
  • On the other hand I'm still the stereotypical wlw who constantly whines about not having a gf - 2
  • Uni is like a median 7 I guess

So I guess I'm rating my 2018 as a 7

More bad than good, BUT the good was really good. I got to see my long distance girlfriend twice this year, including staying at her grandmother's apartment with her while her grandmother was elsewhere. Keeps me going when I'd rather not, man.

Eh. All things considered 2018 wasn't the worst. Especially not compared to, well 2015 through 2017.
Wasn't the best either, since I still didn't manage to last half a year without some bad stuff happening in one form or another. Guess we'll see if next year will be better.

voted a three, lol. the cons:

  • in march my mother had a stroke that debilitated her so much i've had to turn to bullying to get her to perform basic bodily caretaking. it's a 50/50 chance i get verbally abused for this, and i've developed what is apparently called Compassion Fatigue as a result.
  • three more hospitalizations for mother post-stroke, but no, the insurance still won't pay for rehab so back home she goes for my unqualified ass to scramble to give her needed care.
  • persistent migraines since April i guess? anyway i don't remember what it's like for my head to not be pounding and lights to contribute to the situation.
  • world affairs, especially re: the tent camps for the refugees, et al. i live very close to one of the camps and it's freaking everyone out. ICE dumped something like fifty people at a bus stop on the evening of the 23rd! an eight-year-old boy died in custody on the 24th! what is going on here?!
  • due to the pileup of stress i haven't written anything all year, which was my primary way of keeping myself sane.

but for the pros:

  • no dogs died.
  • the bills got paid despite things
  • my small group of friends and family are all still alive.

Well... I have lyme disease, so I'll leave it at that. It's one of the worst conditions somebody can have... because it's so insidious and covert... nobody can tell how sick you really are, but it's like perma-flu but you have to do shit anyway, instead of lie in bed a few days... and feel better.
You never feel better. You just have slightly better days. I already have a thread on lyme if you wanna know more and don't...

It'd be a 0 for most, but I'm around a 6 after living with it for over 2 decades. You get used to stuff like mental and physical pain, tiredness, aches, etc.

Have a nice one this coming year, everybody! :3

I can't enter anything, but they are nice games! BUMP applied!

I won't go into loss, but a few old friends died this year. I've lost many - and they were far too young to go... two ex's alone this year and last! Steam made some horrible changes in the last year or two as well... definitely made steamgifts suck worse, but we're pulling it off still! <3

First: I'm sorry for your loss! Fortunately I haven't lost anyone this year, but I know that feeling ...
Second: it was just another year. Some ups and downs but everything is fine as far as possible.
I hope that you have a great 2019 with the ones that you love!

And thanks for the train :)

All in all, 2018 ended up on a good note. Got 2 jobs and balancing them pretty well. Got a new PC, feels nice having every game running on high by default. Three cats found me somehow (all orange) and one lives with me now. 8/10 year

Sorry for your loss. It's at Christmas that you miss them the most. :(

It was a really, really crap year for me honestly. I gave it a 2. lol.

Hopefully, 2019 will be better. My surgery is hopefully going to happen in January or February. :)

(I have, or gave away all of the games in your train :) )

2018 was an amazing complex exhausting rewarding surprising year!

We had our fifth child.
I quit drinking.
We have 2 kids in school.
It was our first full year having my parents live in the house with us.
I was in a car accident.
Our income dropped by almost a third.
My father-in-law had some medical complications from cancer treatment, and we drove 500 miles to spend two weeks taking care of him.
Our baby got very sick and spent some time in the hospital. She got well again.

I'm probably forgetting some things.

Praise God for seeing us through.

Happy New Year!
