Thank you for the giveaways :) I own two, and gifted the third one, so won't enter
I can absolutely understand your concept regarding games and torrent. Before and at the start of the university finally I got a credit card, some "virtual" money for myself, and actually somebody made me realize that while Steam is still expensive as heck, massive sales, promos, bundles exist. So, I started buying, playing, collecting - this is why I have none/low played hours on Fallout 3, NV, Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Call of Cthulhu, Majesty - I played a lot with these games in the past, and after having so much fun with them, it's the least that I'll buy them - I try to take the "you vote with your wallet" thing seriously now :)

+1 I'm so glad that I left my pirating past behind. (same with pirating movies, I mean we have Netflix in the country I live in so what's the point?).
Ja és én is magyar vagyok, csak Skóciában élek már egy ideje :)

Praise the mods! Thanks for the GAs :3 At your discretion I would love a chance for Skyrim. Don't have have the base game and just replaced my laptop with a desktop (unwillingly; the laptop died) so now I can check out all the sexy mods. I mean nice looking graphic mods. Not actual sex mods....

My first Steam game ever was Half-Life 2, via a retail box on sale that required Steam activation (unbeknownst to me when I bought it). My net connection at the time, back in 2008, was so slow that the game never managed to update itself to a playable state until a couple of years later when I got a better line put in. I was so irritated at buying a game that I couldn't play because the CD in the box was essentially decorative that I nearly gave up on Steam permanently.
A year or two later, armed with an actual modern internet connection, I bought Defense Grid, and set to playing over 300 hours of it over the years.
I'd be delighted to join your whitelist, if you like.

Welcome to my whitelist :)
Is Defense Grid that good? Haven't tried it, I might give it a shot then.

It was essentially my first tower defense game, and I loved it. There's nothing quite like it, either. It's got a good story and wonderful voice production to take you through the various challenges, and addictive gameplay once you get going. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I had a blast with it. The sequel is good too, but not quite as amazing as the first.

Hmm I too like a good TD action. Better check on it for real.

Same for me, and I kinda know the feel. I was also a peasant at the time, and after discovering Steam everything changed. It looks like it really was a matter of quality of service.

my first steam game was "empire total war" (on a different account) at the time where everyone was complaining that steam activation was required.... was also the last game i bought in a box at full price :)

Total War is simply my favorite franchise, the very first PC game I bought was Medieval Total War 2 Gold. Unfortunately the key that came with the CD-ROM cannot be activated on Steam :C
Also you are whitelisted now :)

in total war especially the battles are really cool.... what i dont like is the politics/economical part which seems pretty simple/dull to me; especially turn based... i prefer the paradox games in these aspects. but the battles are reason enough to play! btw thanks for the whitelist :D whitelisted you too :)

So how's that system build coming? (shameless self promotion)
With that you'll be able to run the next Elder Scrolls game, perhaps in 2016?
I have Skyrim (without any DLC) already so don't need to enter this, but I do like lists. Which makes me think of Robin Williams in Aladin :(

I spent all my money on blackjack and hookers so the build has to wait for a bit :3

Merci, my first game was a complimentary copy of Faerie Solitaire. My friend told me to sign up for Steam because it was available for free.
I refused to use Steam for the longest time, because I knew I would turn into an obsessive achievement whore.
I caved about 9 months ago.

So back in 2013 I bought a physical copy of Skyrim Legendary Edition. I've been mostly pirating games up to that point (Skyrim included) but the whole modding community and the sheer amount of enjoyment I got out of the game convinced me to buy a legit copy of it.
Never looked back since, I bought almost all games I enjoyed playing before and never felt the need to pirate a game again.
Now that this Skyrim paid modding controversy is over it is only fitting to give away a copy of Skyrim Legendary Edition.
The giveaway is for whitelisted people only, however I'd be more than happy to add more people to my list. Just leave a comment and I'll get back to you if I decided to add you to my whitelist.
[Update] I'm trying to skim through the comments every now and then and whitelist people. If I just comment "whitelisted" or sth without a meaningful reply is not because I don't care about what your saying in your comment, I'm just simply way too tired to respond properly. (woke up at 3.30am today after 2 hours of sleep etc)
There is also a giveaway for Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins for the rest of you, so that you don't miss out. (both are excellent games, dare to say much much better than an un-modded Skyrim).
Without further ado:
The Elder Scrolls Skyrim Legendary Edition
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age: Origins
