I have got to admit, after watching KBS World (Korean Broadcasting Service) for 3 years now, that some KPop songs are catchy.

What are your thoughts on it? Outdated? Different, but still alright? Let's hear it!

P.S. Gangnam Style doesn't count!

EDIT: Great comments so far, but be more specific! If you like Kpop, why an what are some of you're favorite Kpop groups and songs. If not, what kind of music genre you prefer?

Kpop songs are more for watching than listening. I particularly like the leggy girls.

I am a Korean, and real music is dead in Korea thx to K-pop. They are only a bunch of meaningless songs trying to be as catchy as they can, with terrible lyrics and even worse singing/rapping. Not worth my time.

There are tons of active local bands, and most gigs are done in 'liveclubs,' which are small pubs with stage. But they rarely become musically successful. Even if they do, they are never parts of 'K-pop,' which many Koreans(and Korean media) seem to be so obsessed to spread. So for the people outside Korea, all they're getting are songbirds and Korean ver. Justin Biebers, 0 musical value.

If you're interested in some better Korean music, try

  1. Guckkasten: psychidelic rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YH2kxvuyx7A
  2. Crying Nut: punk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwjwuBKaZss
  3. Jambinai: heavy metal w/ Korean instruments http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6ABpjyc1Gs
  4. Swings: rap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r12eF2rvduE
  5. E-sens: rap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSuMY1xYepM(Beat by Primary)
  6. Defcon: rap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBGvekeweow
  7. Idiotape: rock/electronic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7aHUJBMt-Y
  8. Youn Sun Nah: Jazz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxzU27I4dUg
These are all quite successful ones, except #3. There are much more.

Its terrible. Psychedelic rock, blues and blues-rock, psychedelic electronic, folk, krautrock, and shoegaze are where its at. I also enjoy some jazz, GOOD rap, some reggae, tuvan music, and world music amongst many other genres.

Catchy, and eye-candy. They get repetitive and boring after like 15 minutes. Well I like metal, and idk whether my view is biased.

Some Putrid Pile or Dying Fetus would be delightful. Dunno where you'll categorize them.

It's your opinion :) I don't consider them brutal or anything, just good music. Hell I don't even consider DF a BDM band. You can call me a poser or whatever you like.

I don't like kpop, I don't like weeb music and I don't like pop music, but if y'all do that's cool, just not my thing. I like my music to have more complex instrumentation.

I think it's one of those types of music you really have to be in the mood to listen for.

I got into it back when Starcraft 2 was released from watching streams and tournaments, I still listen to some specific artists now and then, especially on my phone when I'm away from home!

I like (and even love) some of it but most of it isn't anything to write home about. Same could be said about any genre though.
