Ni No Kuni is #2 on my wishlist, so I've gotta give this a try 😁
Finding two games to play of the right combined length was a bit challenging, especially as I've got a lot of games that I've started and then sort of abandoned. A terrible habit... 😅
First up will be:

Enjoyed PotE
Good to hear, I've been kinda putting off trying it up til now because the setting is a little outside of my usual fare... 😅
Keepsake was an ok old-school game, though maybe a little painful compared to newer games
It does look a bit... quaint 😆

Pillars of the Earth completed (41/41). I know you didn't require it but I do like to get 100% if I can.
I managed to get nearly all the achievements in one playthrough. There are two pairs of mutally exclusive achievements though, one just required reloading a save from a few minutes earlier, but the for the final achievement I had to replay a section from almost the very start of the game. Not a fan of that kind of game design.
I loved the story, and (most of) the protagonists, and I appreciated that despite the subject matter the Church didn't come out of it looking very good...

My GPU died (was already getting some crashes during the weekend), so I have to change the games since those 2 don't run too well on my integrated GPU. I hope it's fine.
Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - HLTB 11h
South Park: The Stick of Truth - HLTB 11h

Oooh that sounds awesome! Especially since I totally missed out on Cj's Monthly in a Month the past two months.
Since it's the first event and you're fiddling with the form, I'm going to go ahead and ask two questions:
1) Would it be possible to play more games as long as they total 20 hours in gameplay? I have a lot of games that are in the 4-6 hours gameplay on HLTB and I'd love to be able to play say 4 instead of scrapping for 2 that go over 10 hours. Just a suggestion of course.
2) If the games have a story (like adventure games I mean), and no achievements (which sadly is the case for many adventure games), would it be ok too? As long as evidence of completion is provided of course, like screencaps or is it going to be too tedious for you to check?
Just asking as you added the "If your game doesn't have an achievement to imply you finished the game, then I will require some sort of proof that you have finished the game" so I'm wondering if achievements are an absolute for you?
In any case, I have my two games for this one:
South Park: The Stick of Truth HLTB 11.5h | Achievements
The Wolf Among Us HLTB 9h | Achievements
Thanks for the event!
Backup game:
Tales from the Borderlands HLTB 11.5h | Achievements

The 1st question has been answered. Since it was changed already to include games under 10h assuming you make up the time with the other I don't think more games will ever be allowed
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/g1YCz/gaming-challenge-beat-games-be-in-to-win/search?page=2#vjgmbpc
Your 2nd question actually made me look up to realise more stuff was added. I don't remember seeing a comment about that question though. Anyway you got some good games you picked so hopefully you enjoy them

Thanks. I missed the answer to the first question. Shame but I get it. Too much work checking a multitude of games.
I'll definitely play the two I picked because they've been on top of my backlog but I keep pushing them down and it's about time I play them. Been looking forward to them and they're very different in style, tone and genre so I know it won't be boring playing them back to back.
Thanks for taking the time to reply and for pointing out that other comment.

wolf among us is my favourite telltale game that I even looked at the comics a bit and they were pretty good to.
I preferred the stick of truth compared to the next south park game mainly because I knew the people there. I found it to be a perfect game for a south park fan and yeah both games are so different it shouldnt be boring.

I remember playing the first episode of Wolf Among Us on my tablet when it was free and being so totally sucked into it, I didn't even notice the plane I was on had landed lol. Considering how much I hate flying, the fact a flight attendant had to politely tap me on the shoulder to get me out of the wonderful world I was in, says a lot about the game.
The comics are pretty good. I wish they had gone ahead with that animated show project but I guess it won't happen now.
I read some people were disappointed in the second South Park game. I grabbed this one on sale because it seemed to be more in tune with the spirit of the first seasons. I'm a little in doubt about turn based combat but the RPG part of the game looks like fun so I'm looking forward to it.

the problem i had with the 2nd game was just how buggy it was. It would take like a minute before I could move in battle, people wouldnt show up so at times I would be stuck on a screen waiting for them to pop up. The fart jokes felt like it was coming on way to strong this time round too. Plus it was hard for me to get into because it was like who are these characters. I'm gonna go through all the south park episodes and see if it helps get me into it but if its still as buggy on my new laptop I don't think I could handle it

Hey Fluffy, yeah, as Cece has answered, I won't be making any changes to the rules now, I had originally consider just one game for the event (cos Ni No Kuni is a big game), but two smaller games is much more manageable, and then having them be different lengths if required made it just the bit of flexible that suited most players without ruining my intent for the event in the first place.
I have purposely made it games with achievements because it gives a better idea of not only your progress through the game, but also that the game was actually played. Yes, there are ways to get around this, I'm just trying to make it easier for myself without being too much of a nitpick. I want this to be fun, but I want those who put in the effort to at least have some sort of incentive, and not have someone ruin it for everyone :)
I've relaxed quite a few of the original stipulations, and I think it's just right now. We'll see how it all pans out :)
Anyway, enough waffling. Those two games are fine; I do however recommend you have a backup game as well, juuuust in case you don't like one of them, and have to suddenly ask my approval for another game to play for the event.

I never was into Southpark, so for me, going into the game wasn't for the familiarity of the characters, but rather for a game I might enjoy. I stopped playing it for reasons I can't remember now (was a few years ago, about the time it was in a HB monthly I think), and I dunno if I'll bother giving it another shot.

I hasnt watch much of Southpark. I kind of enjoy the gameplay more than the content of the game. Which is really some bad humor imo. I dont get alot of what they are trying to deliver but its certainly a good fun for me. If you look past that and play it like an RPG perhaps you'll get more fun? :) Dont try the 2nd game tho XD
Edit: The turn based combat was good fun for me, for someone who enjoyed HoMM3
Comment has been collapsed.
I really did enjoy the gameplay in South Park. Even the turn based combat didn't bother me because they kept it fun.
Like everything South Park though, I did start experiencing South Park fatigue about 2/3 of the way through. Not being 5, there's only so many fart jokes I can take in a few days and it starts wearing thin.
I'm not going to lie, I laughed out loud a lot during the game but they tend to try to top themselves by going to the extreme and that's when it gets a bit "alright, we get it, it's South Park, let's move on"
I was surprised though by how straight the gaming itself is. I was expecting some form of parody of RPG gaming in the mechanics themselves but it was pretty straightforward, which is not a flaw at all.
I was hoping to be replaying it with my nephew who will certainly enjoy the 5 year old humor but I would get my ass kicked by his Mom if he wants to play the whole game lol so maybe not.

Yes, you experience is similar to mine. Wasnt expecting the gameplay to be that engaging. After awhile I focus on the gameplay rather them trying to be funny. Not really im kind of humor. The gameplay was engaging enough to pull me going through the world looking for secrets and hitting almost anything in sight, and i mean anything XD
Probably a game you can enjoy a good laugh with your nephew when they grow older, not now XD There is a low violence version which is censored i think that is mostly what is sold now. I dont know the difference but i know if I get it on steam, my version will be censored. Not really looking forward but I do miss the simple yet fun combat in Stick of Truth. :D

I will look into it. The cartoony violence I think is fine, because we talk about things and he can tell the difference between life and cartoons (it really amazes me how violent cartoons are, even the ones for small kids) but all the sexual and hmmm... Southparkish content might be a little much, even though it takes place later in the game and he'll probably lose interest by then lol

Yes, there is no relevance to added the sex scenes into the game. Tbh, I dont really like that kind of humor and cartoons like Spongebob, oggy the cockroach, im not a fan of. My niece and nephew kept watching them when they were younger and I always switch to another channel.
It is good that as adults we look through the contents of a media before a younger child watches so we are aware of what kind of information they are getting through.
I am in a region that has heavy censorship so that was what I heard. I was worried if I get a copy on Steam there would be no blood, cursing, etc. I dont miss some of the content but I am also not sure what kind of content I'll be getting. I will still be getting the game at some point maybe directly from Uplay with the token discount. I really did have fun with the combat.

No problem, I totally get it and I like it the way it is. I just have limited access to a recent laptop and unlimited access to an old potato right now so it restrains my choices but I have a big backlog so I'll find others if you do another one lol and I'm happy with my choices for this one.
As a backup, I'd probably for for another Telltale game: Tales from the Borderlands HLTB | Achievements because it's another 11+ hours on HLTB and the one I'm not sure I'll enjoy it South Park (I'm not a huge fan of turn based combat so it'll depend how it goes) and I have played a demo of TftB on tablet so I know it's my speed.
I added it to the other post just in case.

Wolf Among Us has a really good story telling a little dark too. I hope you'll enjoy the foul mouthing, at times foul smelling humor of Southpark XD tbh, i dont really like cursing but the game has interesting game mechanics/elements to enjoy. Tell me about your experience once you're done with the games. ^^

Just finished The Wolf Among Us. Well my first playthrough because I'm going to start it again right away to see what changes I can make to the end of the game.
I loved it. The atmosphere is great, the story and all the black and white, and grey morals, is really well plotted. The voice acting was surprisingly good for a game with so many characters because that's been known to be a let down in some adventure games. .
I did dislike two things though:

QTEs are always rough, especially the button smashes. Sometimes I feel they are just trying to make sure you're not falling asleep thus a sudden QTE. I agree, I had the issue with dialog in "Finding Paradise' I am usually fine with dialogs but when they get too long winded and try to add in unnecessary humor, it gets stale.
You cant skip! or risk watching the whole scene again. It was a torture for me for that 5hr single achievement. I dont know what its Overwhelming positive but I also hasnt played the 1st game. I heard its better, but it dropped down the priority list alot!
Wolf Among Us has one of the best story telling if not the best from TT, I heard. A 2nd game was in the works when they suddenly folded. I dont know where the direction of interactive novel is going for the future but hopefully this title will not be forgotten for long. :D

Pretty much the issue I had with Finding Paradise. The story is good but it gets lost quickly in missions for the sake of missions and the meandering of pointless dialog. I was so tired of clicking through by the end, I was just waiting for it to be over, which is a shame.
A 2nd game was in the works when they suddenly folded.
Telltale probably had other priorities. Not sure how it's going to go now but I think it was a very successful game and considering the money they sunk on high profile stuff like Stranger Things, they might get back to less expensive franchises.
I hope.
I really liked that you could play with various degrees of where your character is emotionally. And that it actually changes dynamics and the last couple of episodes, unlike a lot of games where you can be "good" or "bad" and well, it's pretty much all the same in the end.
Comment has been collapsed.
I fully agree on Finding Paradise, it was a chore to finish the game.
I wikied this "While licenses for games and planned games like The Walking Dead and Stranger Things have since reverted to their original owners, the new Telltale retains licenses for The Wolf Among Us and Batman, as well as the intellectual property for Puzzle Agent."
Dont really have high hopes for the new TT they seems to be working on a smaller scale. Well, at least is seems more manageable and within budget. I hope they made another great Wolf game. Indeed, Wolf is sort of the masterpiece for TT, sadly bad management seem to run them into the ground. I see the money they spend on copyrights being one of the issue as it results in the heavier price in their games which Storytelling isnt always the most popular category.
Cheers~

tales from the borderlands is the whole reason I got into borderlands. I'm sad to see that the servers arent running so I can't compare my choices with other players. It's one of the most fun parts of telltale games seeing if you made a majority vote or not

I think my game listing got lost in the middle of everything, so new comment. I think if I do this, I'll likely end up combining this with my PoP games so
STEINS;GATE 0, HLTB 13h50m
and either
Kentucky Route Zero, HLTB 7h48m
or
Dex, HLTB 11h04m

Would these be okay?

I guess I'll start with:
Broken Sword 5 - the Serpent's Curse HLTB - 11h (game was idled for 3.5h before)
The second game would be one of those:
Mars: War Logs HLTB - 9h (was idled for 3.8h before) or
Zenith HLTB - 10h

I'm in a Telltaley mood.
First game:
Batman: The Telltale Series. HLTB 8.5 hours
Second game:
Minecraft: Story Mode. HLTB 12 hours when accounting for Episodes 6-8, which I do own
Alternate if there's an issue with Minecraft Story Mode:
Life is Strange. HLTB 14 hours 2 hours played from idling.

Oh, how I wish I had 2 hours a day to play games. I'd love a chance at the giveaway, but I just don't have the free time available.
And, unfortunately, I very rarely do the absolute minimum required to rush through a game, so the HLTB Main Story time is a gross underestimate of how long it takes me to finish a game (Dishonored being a prime example: HLTB = 12 hours, my first playthrough = 40+ hours).
Still, I'm all for people playing their wins, so thanks for helping to encourage that even if I can't partake.

I have been rarely playing more 5-10 hours a week recently, so this is a good challenge for me. It gives me an excuse to play haha :P I've gone well so far, but I'll be busy the next few days so we will see if I finish the second game.
Think of it as encouragement to work on your backlog :)
Comment has been collapsed.
That's awesome!
I have all the encouragement I need to work on my backlog, what I need is the actual free time. Due to Covid-19, I'm now down to a 60-90 minute window of free time each day which has to cover any and all leisure activities I want to pursue. I'd love to play 2 hours a day, but that would require giving up all time spent with my SO, all other hobbies, and some sleep as well. Every time I come across one of those "What to do with all of your free time" or "What to watch once you've watched everything on Netflix" articles I get a little angry and kinda jealous. The last thing I need to do is take on an unrealistic challenge to make playing games feel like a job. :)
But I'm glad it works for you, good luck! :)

I think you've got cynnix (and other's views on this) all wrong. Too many of us here buy games, bundles, whatever, and waste too much time talking and drooling over games without actually playing anything. I know you're in the minority, and it sounds like you truly don't have enough "free" time to play games, but that's fine. But for us who are taking on the challenge to play games, it's not a job, it's fun. The challenge should really be changed to "encouragement" to play games. I've only ever played about 20% of the games in my library, and probably only beaten about 15%. The last two to three years I've experienced many great moments in games just because of the encouragement of seeing others play and share their time, and gotten me excited to take my own journeys. We're all in this together :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, I totally understand. I accept that this isn't for me, and that's fine, and I'm genuinely glad that you're doing these sorts of things to encourage other people to play their games! Anything that gets people playing is a good thing. :)
My only regret is that I don't have the free time to join in myself, so play some games for me. ;)

I thought I'd try my hand at an event. This is similar to cjcomplex's "Monthly in a Month" whereby you play 6 games within a month.
Mine is tentatively called "2 Games In 10 Days", or “The 20 hour Challenge”
Depending on how well received it is, I might make it a semi-regular thing.
THE EVENT HAS ENDED! The giveaway has now started.
Invites have been sent out. The giveaway lasts for 1 week.
FUN FACTS:
Rules Of Event:
The event will start and end within a specific time of 10 days as announced by myself
Play any TWO games that require a combined total of 20 hours or more to beat, within the event time *
Games must meet these requirements (and are subject to further discretion by myself):
Comment with the games you'd like to play; I also recommend having a backup game, just in case you don't like one of your first picks.
PLEASE post with links to HLTB pages and your achievements pages for the games you want to play.
I can then can confirm length, not started status, achievements, eligibility. I will reply only if there are issues with the chosen games.
This event is for entrance into a giveaway for Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch Remastered
(Region-locked, so can't be activated in Japan, sorry).
Once you have beaten the two games, reply to first post of thread. I'll add you, and send the giveaway link on Steam (once it's live).
I will run the giveaway after the event is over, to give me more time to check and send invites, and set giveaway end-date.
If you're using HLTB, check the "Main story" time. This is the rough MINIMUM amount of time required to beat the game. I don't require you to 100% the game, I only require you to beat/finish the game. Most games have a "complete the story/game" achievement. If your game doesn't have an achievement to indicate you finished the game, then I will require some sort of proof that you have finished.)
