He is saying himself he is happy with his current one and that maybe it would be better to upgrade, maybe not, in that case I would just say keep using what you have if it works fine and you can always replace it later when you are sure about it/really need it.
I don't see a use in upgrading something that you are happy with if it's not needed yet and I never told him that he shouldn't, just the way I see it.

I think 970 is perfect for 1080p/60 fps. If you want to buy high res monitor you also need GPU to handle that resolution. GPU prices are FUCKED right now, so I don't know if this is a good idea. If you want big screen for work, internet browsing, movies, sure.

Unless you're going for a refresh rate of higher then 60hz, I'd just stick with it. The 970, although capable of 1440p on some games I'm sure, is still probably best suited for 1080p overall so... Really comes down to whether or not you want to be able to push games past 60fps.

I agree with the others. Your 970 is great for 1080p 60Hz gaming. If you want to go for 1440p you'll probably need a better GPU, and that's not the best time for that.

Thank you for the help. I guess I'll stick to my current monitor for now.

The bigger, the better. 23" would be too small for me.
ps.: Acer = price change of 500%. You will find the same for cheaper but not from acer.

Getting a new monitor has it's benefits:
For example, your monitor is a TN panel. Newer monitors have IPS and VA panels which are much nicer on the eye and make your content much nicer. (there are also ones that have low input lag so don't need to worry about it)
You can buy a bigger monitor with the same resolution and might be more immersive, BUT it depends how far you sit from the monitor. Measure the distance and play aroun with the number (https://designcompaniesranked.com/resources/is-this-retina/ ignore the retina part, just see the PPI you get from the distance you are from the monitor). If you sit close then it's not a good idea to buy a bigger monitor.
You can buy a ultrawide monitor (21:9 aspect ratio). I bought one myself and it's great for everyday multitasking and also for games it's very nice and immersive. I have a R9 390 amd card which is similar to 970 and running games on a 2560x1080 screen is ok for it (not much different from running the games in FHD 1920x1080).
But it is up to your personal preferences.

True, but TN panels have quicker response times, so the decision should be based on what you want. TN for games is generally betteer (super fast respons <5ms), but for design or such IPS is way better (better colours, angle of view).
And, TN panels aree still cheaper, so there's that.

response time is only a fraction of it, input lag is the main thing. But on a whole TN monitors are faster, but you won't notice the difference if both monitors are low input lag. You can read more on here http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/

that doesn't make sense. Why would the monitor affect tearing? It's more to do with the timing the GPU sends out the frames to the monitor.

I got the Samsumg, BX2250, six years and still going strong. Hardware stuff is really expensive on my country., i will try to get the LG ultrawide 29UM69G this year, is kinda of a upgrade (75hz and bigger resolution).
I have a 1070 BTW.

Check out the dell s2417dg. 24" 1080p Gsync 165 Hz, can be had for $360 right now with a $50 dell gift card bonus. https://slickdeals.net/f/11250615-dell-s2417dg-165hz-g-sync-monitor-50-dell-egift-card-for-359-99
I've got the 27" 1440p version and love it. Gsync is fantastic.

980ti. I think your 970 would do ok at 1440p if you are willing to turn down settings but 1080p you should be in the sweet spot.

It's not about the price (although thanks for the offer ). It's about my 970 with 1440. I kind of like having high settings

Agreed, though the 1440p monitors look just fine if you run them at 1080p. If you are planning on upgrading the GPU in the next year or so I see no reason not to future proof your monitor.
Comment has been collapsed.
Are you sure that 1440p monitors can run fine at 1080p? Because some people here are saying just the opposite.
Comment has been collapsed.
It depends on how picky you are I guess. 1080p displayed on a 1440p monitor will use 1.3x1.3 pixels to display each pixel (1440/1080 = 1.3) so it will be slightly blurry. You can run 1080p pixel perfect and have black borders around the image, or you could run 720p and get pixel matching that way (1440/720 = 2) so 2x2 per pixel.
Personally I'd just run at 1440p and turn down the settings a bit. I ran my 970 back when I had it on a 4k monitor for a while and it performed way better than I expected.
It's about the equivalent of running a game at 1600x900 on a 1080p monitor, you could try that out now and see how bad it looks to you.

I've been eyeing UHD TV sets, myself, cheaper than most mid-tier to high-end computer monitors, damn huge and make for a great multi-tasker that can cover lots of roles effectively: a 40 incher has about the pixel density of a 27 in QHD, while 43 is half way through that and a FHD 24 in panel, while offering the real estate of four 20 (or 21.5) inch monitors.
Even entry level Samsung models have reportedly very decent input lag figures (after turning off all of the processing) and handle 4:4:4 so text rendering is as crisp as on a computer monitor.
Of course there are downsides, so whether it is a viable option or not depends on one's personal preferences and needs.

I have a 970 and recently got an Ex-demo Asus ROG Swift PG279Q for $670AUD (for games, movies and CAD work). The quality overall build quality of the monitor is amazing. I play csgo comp mostly and get 210-280fps. I was a little disappointed with the amount of noticeable backlight bleed in the dark since its an IPS panel, lucky I still have my old monitor a BENQ GW2760S for late night movies. Its a great monitor would recommend it, if you play the most up-to-date AAA games then, however, you probably won't be using the monitor to its full potential on 2k with a 970 (60ish fps)
Comment has been collapsed.
It's not common on all IPS panels. Most of the IPS panels don't suffer from backlight bleed, sadly it's the more gaming orientated ones.
The panels that are mostly plagued by this are AUO optronic ones. It's just shitty build quality from the manufacturer (in this case Asus).

Can you play in high settings using the 970 and the ROG Swift? Do you play in 1080 or 1440?
Comment has been collapsed.
Just remember to check at which framerates does gsync or the AMD equivalent work. Some don't engage under 60 FPS which kind of defeats the point for a slower GPU.
Comment has been collapsed.
Will you SEE the difference? Chances are the difference if any will be negligible. Save your $$$ for later when you can get a 4k monitor with a better upgrade.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, technically I can afford it. But if it's going to give me trouble because the 970 is too weak for 1400, I don't think is the right time to change the GPU.
Comment has been collapsed.
i have a 390 and it perform just as well as a 970, i have the acer xg27 144 hz 2 k, i think it worth it if you have the money, i have no regret so far. 4k resolution is really demanding and most of the game wont be able to run at 144 hz for a long time from now.

I have an ASUS IPS monitor so the colors looks better and afaik IPS looks best even if I don't do a ton of photo/video editing. If you're buying a monitor, I assume you're still keeping the old one for a dual or maybe tri-monitor setup? Having more monitors have definitely changed how I work and you can always disable the extra monitors in GPU settings if needed for fps. The ASUS ROG Swift monitor you mentioned seems to have a lot of backlight bleed reviews however, so personally I'd try to find another one.

Yes, if you're using a 23 inch, it's time for an upgrade. 27 inch is quickly becoming the new "average" and they're dirt cheap anymore.
A larger, higher quality (IPS panel, higher refresh rate, higher resolution) monitor will change your entire gaming experience.

I bought in 2009 a Samsung SyncMaster BX2335 LED - LED monitor - Full HD (1080p) - 23, (https://www.cnet.com/products/samsung-syncmaster-bx2335-led-led-monitor-full-hd-1080p-23/specs/) and I have been very happy with it. Zero problems for a long time. But I got a GTX970 Nvidia, that includes Gsync, and I have been thinking about doing an upgrade. It's going to be for movies and gaming, basically. I play a lot of games, all kinds. I am not looking to the best framerates ever, I just want to look good and to play good.
If I were to buy a new monitor, I am currently between the Asus ROG Swift PG279Q, (https://www.amazon.es/ASUS-ROG-Swift-PG279Q-resoluci%C3%B3n/dp/B017EVR2VM/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1518162234&sr=1-1&keywords=Asus+ROG+Swift+PG279Q) the Acer Predator XB271HU (https://www.amazon.es/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-27-Pulgada-Monitor/dp/B017DG09WM/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1518162168&sr=1-1&keywords=Acer+Predator+XB271HU) and the AOC AGON AG271QG (https://www.amazon.es/AOC-AGON-Monitor-2560x1440-p%C3%ADxeles/dp/B01GTODWPU)
So, what do you think? Too expensive? Unnecessary? DO IT NOW!! Wait for the prices to drop?
