If you hate Origin you're nothing more than a Steam fanboy. The program itself is better than Steam. It's more stable, has a real refund policy and the customer support isn't garbage. I just don't purchase games off it because I don't want to support EA.

It's pretty uncomfortable to have two kinda programms like Origin and Steam... It's like...choice between PS4 and XBOX ONE?)
But to be clear, I'll say that I have much more experience of using Steam, plus here I have a bunch of games which I bought or won. Origin, well... It isn't great with its functionality, at least for now.

1) I loathe EA, and Origin--a completely superfluous platform--is an extension of their "get their money any way you can" business philosophy.
2) EA reserves the right to invade my privacy (unless they've finally fixed their EULA?) I don't know of any other publishers that do this.
3) I am forced to use Origin to play a game I paid to own, even a physical copy. (I hate Steam for this same reason.)
4) Should EA shut down tomorrow, I am S.O.L. as far as using my Origin-based software. (This also applies to Steam.)
5) Origin is in addition to, not in place of, all the other DRM crap I have to deal with. Add EA's horrible launches on top of that.
If you read between the lines, you will see that I don't like Steam, either, but my feelings of antipathy are much stronger with Origin. Part of that may be unresolved feelings from when we were coerced into using Steam. Now that it's being done to us a second time, the outrage is intensified.

Try this: install your game, don't install Origin, see if you can get your game to work.
Comment has been collapsed.
You need to have Origin installed as a client to download the installer, but once installed, its work is done. Its purely online access for games after that.
Steam doesn't let you do that with most games as its more integrated as DRM.
I've even set up Origin games as Non Steam entries in my Steam client, only needing it for the online in Dead Space 3.

You are missing my point. There is no choice. You are forced to install and run Origin to "enable" your game. The only way to avoid that is to not buy EA games in the first place. I don't believe the customer should have something rammed down their throat whether they like it or not, and it is this coercion that so infuriates me.
If EA had said, "Hey, we've got a new platform! You don't have to use it, but we encourage you to do so! Totally optional!" then I would have had no problem with it and would probably have used it and continued to buy their games. Instead, EA said, "If you buy our products, we're going to force you to use our new platform! We're also going to snoop in your computer and use the information however we please! Oh, and if you don't like it, you can go and #&^# yourself because we will already have your money!" Some people are fine with that. I am not.

You are forced to install and run Steam to even play most of your games. At least Origin isn't integrated as DRM, just the online connection.
And it was originally dual releases until a change in Valve TOS for publishers.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah when I have to jump through hoops just to play a game I BOUGHT I get a little pissy so I agree with you there.
Comment has been collapsed.
Both programs would allow you to download all your games before they go bust. Besides they wouldn't go bust. People complain about Steam saying "Oh if they vanished then I'd lose my games". Kind of, but at the same time they won't. Valve is a multi-billion dollar company with Gabe being worth over 1 billion dollars. I don't think they're going to go bankrupt anytime soon when they're that rich and the #1 pc game digital retailer. They're also starting to sell software so we'll soon see them being the #1 software retailer.

If you have evidence of what you say, you should provide it. Otherwise, it's just your opinion. I can't tell you how many times in my life I've heard "That will never happen," only to see that very thing become reality.

I don't hate Origin.
PS "Can redeem a game code of a game you already have on your account, and you lose the code(well this is hard to do but....)" Steam does that too. I learned the hard way.
Comment has been collapsed.
I never hated origin but I have used for a long time steam. The only time I use origin if I get games like Titanfall.

I don't hate Origin, in fact I find it to be better than Steam overall. The only real complaint that I have with it is that I don't have access to my Steam Library with it. I wish there was a universal account system that allowed you to access your Steam/Origin/Uplay/whateverotherDRMsthereare account, library, and friends with whichever program of your choosing. It'd make life a lot easier than jumbling multiple accounts to play games I own.
Comment has been collapsed.
wel you can use codes for ea games you own on steam in origin, so you wouldn't have to buy them separately. plus I find that origin downloads games faster for me, plus loads up faster. Steam usually takes me two or three minutes to start up but origin is only a few seconds
Comment has been collapsed.
nice marketing trick of you, EA :-P (with games from steam-->origin)
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah it is pretty clever of them. although with their constant sales on sims 3 games and stuff packs, it would make a lot of sense to have game codes that can cross with steam too, because when the base game is high discount on steam, people who wnt it will buy it there. and when they have the big discounts on expansions, those same people would buy them there so they could add them to steam as well. yes they would lose the base sale, buy they would make more off expansions sales. that's really my only complaint, besides their habit of dumbing down game quality for most of their sequals, ie. mass effect 3, dead space 3, and battlefield 3

That is related to CD keys for their releases, so they can offer it in their client. Steam can do it, but not as many games to get keys from. Half-Life is an example, if you have an old CD copy, pop in your key and enjoy.

I'm thinking about buying Sim City + expansion. Should I? Is it that bad?
Comment has been collapsed.
SimCity is actually quite fun if you disregard all the haters just because it's EA/Origin. It does have Offline mode now if you want but it's fun either way. I've actually put more hours into SimCity than any single game in my Steam Library lolz.
Cities of Tomorrow adds some extras to it but you don't really need it to have fun. It just makes the game a bit easier with megatowers and other buildings to make your city better.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm actually new in this city management game. I've heard the game is buggy. Is that true? Is the game + expansion worth 30 bucks?
Comment has been collapsed.
if you really like the game series, then yes. only problem I've had is that the city size limit is very small and they said they had no plans of increasing it because it would make it run harder for players on lower end systems. So, if you get it, like it, but want bigger cities, blame gamers with crappy pcs. :P
I do believe there is a mod out there to bypass the size restriction thoughso if you don't mind taking time to find it then the game is worth 30 bucks
Comment has been collapsed.
I've never really experienced any game breaking bugs except for maybe some server problems. The thing is, SimCity's online mode sucks. You can send money/resources to other cities but it may take hours or even days to get there, even if you're just sending between your own cities. I've built a Great Works site on my friend's region but it just doesn't appear for him so all the resources and time I've put into it is wasted for him. Lastly, the fact that each user can change the speed of the region seems weird; I joined my friend's region after he played for about a year ingame time but now my city is about 5 years older than his. /fp
Other than those, I don't think there's actually any bugs and what I've pointed out are just minor annoyances. If you do get SimCity, the easiest way I found to make money is through processor plants/consumer plants; easily makes millions of simoleons in a day.

How clicking library does not open Origin, instead I have to click store acting like i'll actually buy something to get into my library
Comment has been collapsed.
That just isn't true. I've never had that issue. Plus you can, if you want, just launch things from your start menu. Many Origin games don't even require Origin to be running. Even the ones that do, like Titanfall, can be launched from your Steam library if you add them as long as Origin is running in the background. So yes, my Steam status can be and has been Currently playing non-Steam game Titanfall.

Because their strategy is customer-oriented and not just "give us more and more money for this exclusive Origin Game!"
Comment has been collapsed.
Overall I like Steam better, but honestly Steam could learn something from Origin's refund policy and live customer service.

I don't believe that Steam just wants our money.
Remember, Gabe Newell quit a high-paying job at Microsoft (and was already a millionaire when he did) in order to create Valve. The game industry is not a good place to make money in general; Gaben obviously made that shift because he wanted to make good games, not because he wanted to make lots of $$$. You can also see this by looking at what's happening with Episode 3 / HL3 -- Valve could make absolutely obscene amounts of money very cheaply by releasing another Half-Life installment using the same general engine (with some minor tune-ups) and the same basic structure. They refuse to do so because they want to make a genuinely original game.
Now, does Valve still have to make a profit to stay in business? Yeah, sure. But I feel that boiling down "businesses have to make a profit to survive" into "all businesses exist purely to make money" is absolute bullshit cynicism. People say it to try and appear clever and cool; but it's completely wrong. Not every business is like that; not everyone in the world is a wage-slave driven by profit and nothing else.
There are businesses out there -- and Valve is absolutely one of them -- that exist because the founder genuinely wanted to accomplish something. There are businesses out there that are driven by actual missions, who work hard to recruit employees who care about what the business is trying to do and who aren't just looking to be wage-slaves for an easy paycheck. Yes, they still have to have a positive cash flow to stay in business; but that doesn't mean that they exist purely to maintain that cash flow no matter what.

Being honest, EA used to bring awesome games. Nowadays not so much. Broken games, stupid, money-grabbing, too often, too many expansions, microtransactions in games at full price (don't even get me started on "microtransactions are optional" type of discussion).
Origin is quite ok. The design is cool, love that white and orange theme. Download speeds are at least twice what I'm getting on Steam (obvious reason for that).
The time to do something fantastic is right now when people are getting on the Titanfall hypetrain.
The problem with Origin is that it's from EA and EA is not the most loved company right now and I don't really see any changes coming up anytime soon.

This is the only post i like in the whole page ...
EA is not what it was a few years ago, the EA we know today just sucks, from my nr 1 company it went down the drain and i don't give a damn about them anymore. They ruined most of the games they already had, but also the games that they bought along with the companies.
I`m not gonna support a company like EA games anymore, they can make origin 100 times better than steam, i will just REFUSE to support them, period.

I'm not a console gamer but I would buy the PS4 just because of the shit Microsoft tried the Xbox One users to force to.
It's similar with Origins. I never really considered using Origins because they don't have any games I'm interested in but back when it came out a lot of people in Germany criticized it for their privacy stuff, like the Xbox One. It's even in the English Wikipedia. In the German Wikipedia it says they changed some parts after the release of Battlefield 3 still just that they tried it gives me a bad feeling.
If they release a game I'm interested in I will read their EULA in detail but for now I have a bad first impression of Origin, same goes for the Xbox One.

I don't hate Origin but the only good things going for steam in my eyes are that it has been around for so long that I can trust them, along with Battle.net, and the regular sales. Origin on the other hand has drastically better customer support. Look at the stupid downtimes on steam lately and not a word from Valve .. ughh.
Comment has been collapsed.
To all the Origin naysayers, did you know it is currently working fine? :P
Comment has been collapsed.
It seems to have less unstable periods, and those were around big releases and the Humble Origin Bundle.
Plus, its fun to troll fan boys when they can't really deny Steam is having a lot of downtime recently.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't actually use the client, I just use the Collection page to add my keys and go through my library, and download through the browser.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah I wouldn't really describe steam as stable :P

Steam isn't superior in every way. No live support, no easy refunds, a lot of bloatware introduced...
And of course they want people to use their system. They get paid more per copy, who doesn't want that?
Comment has been collapsed.
Steam has got all these great community features
Yes it's obvious why they force you, but what I was trying to say is that most people who use their client is because they get forced to, if we can learn one thing from google+ is that people don't like to get forced to use stuff.
Comment has been collapsed.
Community features is some of the bloat I refer to.
As for people hating to be forced to use something, just look for forum posts about Steam several years ago. People are fine with it now, because it has improved over the years (even if its starting to have other problems now). Origin is already pretty nice, and can only get better with time. However, it already does everything it needs to, and does it well.
Comment has been collapsed.
Does it play the games you own? Does it let you go online with friends in the same games? Does it let you buy more? Yes, yes and yes. Really, what more does a game client need?
Comment has been collapsed.
A shitload of new features I now demand, like BPM and screenshots... It would be sad if it didn't even had those 'basic' features you listed lol
Origin may be new, it's no reason to release a crappier version of something that already exists. We want equal or better and several years later Origin still shows no sign of getting there.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't really hate Origin, I actually think it works really well. And sometimes they do have nice sales. But... I obviously prefer Steam. There I got my friends, my achievements and whatnot. It's just more of a community.

im not really hate Origin/EA i ignore them simple beside they have some sales on steam :)

Well a simple question, so much peoples hates origin, then waht is the reason?
for me:
--> No good promos how steam
--> Can redeem a game code of a game you already have on your account, and you lose the code(well this is hard to do but....)
