Well a simple question, so much peoples hates origin, then waht is the reason?

for me:

--> No good promos how steam

--> Can redeem a game code of a game you already have on your account, and you lose the code(well this is hard to do but....)

Why many people hate Origin

Origin is far from perfect and there are some features that it's missing, but I only want it to list my games and let me play them. I buy my games elsewhere these days, rarely from Steam/Origin/Uplay/etc.

I have no problem with Origin. I was pissed I needed it for BF3 because I simply like all my games in the same client.
But cant say there's anything wrong with it.
And because Steam is down so often lately I'm happy I can switch to origin to play some Battlefield 4 ;)

I don't hate it, but here are a few main problems for me.

No huge sales because they feel it "devalues" video games
Can't have an Origin game on steam.(I have Sims 3 on origin from a bundle and can't get DLC on sale from Steam.)
Still sales old sports games and other "multiplayer" games that it no longer supports multiplayer for.
It's run by EA, and EA went from the greatest sporting company ever to.... well take your pick of problems.

The devalue bit is true. There are people here in this topic who claim they wouldn't get EA games unless they were on Steam and wait for 75% off minimum. Steam sales and bundles have spoiled users who are now less willing to offer companies their money at anything more than heavily reduced prices.

Well I think a lot of that also has to do with the huge amount of DLC. I think it was like over $300 for the Sims 3 if you bought the game and all the DLC full price. I personally have a very short amount of games I would pay full price for. First is Mario games and things like it on Nintendo consoles. Second is games I know that will be amazing, like if GTA 5 comes out for PC. In the end I think it all actually works out. PC games are digital non-transferable copies, vs physical ones that can be resold. I have bought quite a few cheap games that I normally wouldn't have paid $20 for in a store, but $5 and good reviews during a sale makes me buy it. So if four people buy the game at $5 vs only one of those four people would have paid full price for it, the companies still made the same amount of money. So the game might technically devalued, but the company still would make about the same amount of money.

This isn't referring to just their DLC heavy games, but any. Quality sales are now a right as far as some users are concerned.

Also, that extra users without the extra income mean more money spent on servers and support for the game. Its not all roses selling a lot of copies for little profit.

Paying 100$ or more for a game from 2010-2012 with a pack of DLC is TOO much for me

I wouldn't pay full price for most of the games, i would just pirate them. So why it is bad thing to wait for 75% off? 50 euros for 10 hour SP game is too much. I'll just wait until it's 5 euros.

Waiting until a game is cheap is one thing, I do it all the time, but the whole notion so many people have today of "I don't like the price, so that justifies stealing it" has never made sense to me. I remember talking with someone back in high school when places like the pirate bay were new and him saying that anyone that buys games is stupid, so thank god there are idiots like you who pay for me to steal them. He outright said that the game of the year could be $0.01 and he'd pirate it because buying anything digital is retarded.

And then turn around and complain about DRM...

Because it's EA and EA is the worst company out there. They're making crappy games and ruining good ones.
The prices there are ridiculous.
No good deals there. Only some small discounts and after that the game cost too much anyway.
No features like in steam, profiles, steam level, cards, market, discussions etc.
And the last one - it simply sucks.
That piece of crap origin is alive only because of BF series.

and i guess you love over 2000 indie games on steam? i guess...

oh, and about "No good deals there" i guess that Battlefield Bad Company 2 for 1€/$ is not enought for you...

I don't hate it. I actually prefer it in some ways to Steam. It has a nicer design, and isn't as buggy. It also isn't bloated by things like Steam's level system.

Steam is better, but Steam has been around for 10 years. If you look at Steam when it was just 3 or so years old, it was utter crap. Origin is certainly an improvement. The majority of people that hate it do so because like Bobofatt said, they are either anti-EA circlejerkers or Steam-only snobs, and the majority of them use the same hypocritical arguments as reasoning.

Bad sales, downloads sometimes restart, the whole ''you download an installer then the game is installed'' thing that takes more HDD space than needed, can't organize my game collection, too many popups that ask me to buy DLCs for games I don't even own (or nagging to "give Titanfall a shot"), regional pricing that highly favors Americas (ex: Bad company 2 was 20$ in US, but 30eur in EU region, think it's sort-of fixed now), not even displaying some regions (I had to register as a UK customer since there's no Serbia).

Support is a so-so, I had some big issues with them not even answering my questions and leaving me with a used CD key or non working game until I started nagging them and finally getting through to a sane person that can actually read what I write in support tickets.

I think it depends on your luck.
In my case, all the tickets on Origin were answered ans solved in under 24 hours, but I had to wait up to 2 weeks for those on Steam.

i wouldn't call "Bad Sales", only not that mutch games to sale i guess...
and about the prices dont be such a hater, steam always do that to russian, brazil and argentina and bla bla bla, and for the support you think that origin support sucks? well, i had to wait 2 weeks to have a answer about my Naruto Full Burst that had the NA version and gived me allot of lag, the steam support answer was "i ill help you deleting your game, bla bla bla..." 2 months have passed and i'm still discussing with steam that i want to change the game region if possible they always try to make me quit, if there is someone that only wants your money is steam.

id say only the minority have a genuine reason for disliking origin, the rest jump on the bandwagon. origin is good and their support pisses all over steam support.

Easy to have decent support when 90+% of your users only play Sims and you have 1/10 the number of active users as what you're being compared to.

Don't hate it, just think it's a little annoying that I have to use multiple clients for games. Same goes for uPlay...and the same would go for Steam if it wasn't the first game library client on PC that I used.

origin has a much much much better customer care. They can solve your problems in minutes where with steam you wait for days( or weeks)

apart from that origin is worse in almost every aspect

just not a big fan of EA look at there FIFA games FIFA 10 FIFA 11 FIFA 12 FIFA 13 FIFA 14 it the same game every year with just small changes to kit then charge like £39.99 for the same basic game every year and thay do it with there hokey baseball American football games to so i feel thay like to shaft there customers by selling them the same game year at full price EA SUCK despite that i also have an Origin account but i only play need for speed and battlefield. at least they put more work in to them games than there sports games

Origin needs much more system performance than steam and have less features (Like InGame browser and voice chat. Easily crash and have a lot of bugs.

I love Origin since alongside Desura, Uplay and stuff (even if they're not focused on the same games) still makes Valve try to improve steam constantly, if they didn't exist and Steam was the only game destibution portal they might have just worked on it less than they do now.

  • After a while, Origin clear your login id/password from the client, so you have to enter them over and over again.
  • Uses Euro as currency.
  • Not so useful
  • Mostly, you can't redeem your old retail EA Games without contact support

The type of currency depends on your location. If Origin charges you in Euros then you're obviously in the Eurozone.

Using USD on Turkey? If so, it's fair enough. Since Turkey is economically a mess... and doesn't belong to EU.
