Learning things when you're a new user is a good thing! :-)

You wouldn't believe the I lost a level threads that out there because of Daedalic games and especially Deponia. ^^

So these are the "Alternative FAQs" I've been hearing about.

I would add new rule - although it's for old users not new.
Don't be offended by newcomers asking their questions. Built-in search option is shitty and important rules are in at least 3 places (faq, Guidelines, ToS, Roles). It's easier to just ask - some people will politely answer and guide new user. Also site is in english and users are from around the world - somebody might not understand rules/faq and when they post about their problem - there is possibility that someone will answer in their language.
Also it's much better when newcomer ask about stuff instead of breaking rules in his/hers first day here. If I see someone with a problem - I'm happy to help. Posts like "use google" doesn't really help anyone.

A comprehensive and centralized FAQ wouldn't be a bad idea. ^^

So true. Also it would be nice to add different languages (for such centralized FAQ and whole site) - a lot of people would volunteer to do translation for free (i believe that polish version of FAQ is somewhere in the depths of forum already).

True, because English is for many SG users not the native language. :-)

So much this. You've all done it at some point, admit it. If you can't be bothered to help or be nice and polite, just ignore these kind of threads. Someone else will be happy to help.

It's a very nice and pleasant addition to the SG FAQ and guidelines. :-)

Thanks to everyone who is still bumping and making suggestions. Its nice to see not everyone is out to troll and hate people. However I feel I should let you know I'm inactive so I will not be updating the OP for the foreseeable future, you can still catch me around SG and steam as I've got a lot of friends here, but the forums are not something I wish to participate in.
If you are new and you want to ask a question, add me on steam. If you're an established user, help the new guys out or make this thread yourself but keep it updated. Carry on bumping this for as long as its useful!

Do not share links!
Edit: In case of puzzles, do not share answers.
If you entered puzzle/train giveaways, bump the thread. If the creator of the puzzle/train asks for something specific, try to comply :)

I haven't given up on writing an up-to-date successor to this FAQ, but it'll need to wait a few weeks until I have some free time. In the meanwhile, here's a Free Game Bump™

Good luck making this FAQ Yirg, it would be helpful for new users and older users that don't know these things or live in an alternate reality . ^^

We have plenty of advice on what to do, but very little advice on what not to do with regards to SteamGifts. This thread is to help those that have read the FAQ, but still may unknowingly commit an SG faux pas! Before you read on ensure that you have read the FAQ or are at least familiar with the rules. This thread should hopefully be a guideline on how to deal with things that aren't mentioned in the FAQ, or are common mistakes people make in their first weeks on the forums.
DO NOT POST a thread asking why your ticket has not been replied to. These threads happen once or twice a week and usually are from people who probably know no better. The answer is simple, there aren't a lot of support members trying to answer a lot of support tickets, there is nothing wrong with your ticket, it will get responded to eventually. Some people have tickets stretching back years, have patience and understand that they are volunteers.
DO NOT POST if the user Konrads6 adds you on steam to ask you to get him unbanned, you aren't the first, nor the last. He is perma-banned and these threads also seem to happen on a monthly basis, personally it doesn't bother me, but some people have started to get annoyed by it. Just know that he was banned and thats that.
DO NOT POST is this site a scam? No its not. Many people have won 100's of games, the average user enters 1,000's before winning anything. There are numerous threads on "how" to win, the best way to increase your odds is, get involved in the community. So giving away games to level up will give you access to games with less entries, posting on the forums and taking part in events will increase your chance(there are always numerous great events), take part in puzzles(a lot of people can't be bothered to solve them so you have a better chance of winning), basically anything but entering level 0 public GA's with 1,000's of entries increases your chance of winning.
DO NOT POST why have I been blacklisted? The response to this kind of thread is usually more blacklists. People blacklist for various personal reasons, not always something you'll agree with but the best thing to do is ignore it and carry on. If you REALLY need to know, contact the blacklister directly for an explanation, but do not harrass them or beg them to remove you. Let their reasoning be an indication of how to change your behaviour in the future.
DO NOT POST how do I level up? This again is posted weekly, you level up by gifting games. There is a CV calculator thread which tells you exactly how much to give away to hit each level.
DO NOT POST why did my level drop? Another of the weekly fun threads, your level dropped because your game you gave away in a bundle got put on the bundle list or there was a mistake during a sale(commonly Deponia is a victim of this) which gives you an initial false CV.
DO
use the search function to see if your question has been asked before, if its asked once a week, be assured people will give you a frosty answer. Its not you, its just people are sick of replying to the same questions. Thats not to say you can not ask questions, people here are happy to help on the main and we all had to start somewhere. If you find your question has rarely been asked, then fire away! If its asked semi-frequently but you want different information than is in the threads you found, start a new thead!

There's lots of other things I can link to this which I will do in the future(including useful threads I've mentioned), a lot of people are getting more and more frustrated recently which isn't yours or their fault! If you are desperate for information on one of the topics I mentioned, post in this thread and I'll try and answer the best I can! A lot of this stuff doesn't really bother me, so i'll be happy to help where I can! I'm sure there are hundreds of others who feel the same!
For all the guys out there that are sick of replying to these threads, what have I missed that needs adding?
