Favorite nonhistorical 4X game series?
I would like an invite. I used to play quite a lot of red alert with my brother and played civ 5 for a while. Recently I just bought hearts of iron and would like to get into it when I have the time

"Strategy enthusiasts"? Sounds like me. Can I join?
I'm playing Napoleon: Total War these days and will play Empire: TW next perhaps.
And before N:TW I was playing Panzer Corps which I bought last winter sale. I just got started the campaign. Suddenly my mood changes for the Napoleonic era from WWII era.
Steam Summer Sale is near. Will see what new strategy game(s) I'll get next sale.

Going by series, definitely MoO. Individual game, though? That's a lot harder. That's between MoO2, Ascendancy, Pax Imperia:Eminent Domain, and while it's not strictly a 4x, Alien Legacy. I'd list Reunion but I never managed to beat that one and all it did was endlessly frustrate me.

I'm cautious with strategy games in space as they can be OVERLY time consuming, as a concept they sound real fun with the micromanagement, but I'd love for them to have more than just fancy spaceships, most of them have this Star Wars/Star Trek feel and I'm not a big fan of those either

I think the time has come. I've been staying away from strategy games for a while now because I get so sucked into them when I start, but the itch has been stronger and stronger, and as the last drop a friend gave me his copy of stellaris as a mystery key. >___>
As for my fav strategy games, it depends what you count as strategy. As a 4x, Endless Legend is one of my fav along with the Civ games.
But really my favorite strategy "sub genre" if you will are Turned based tactics games please tell me you consider tactical rpg as strategy too, even if it's not the most pure definition. My all time favorites are the Final Fantasy tactics series, and despite the little love it got, I really enjoyed Fallout tactics back in the days (since Fallout is my favorite series, it's hardly surprising). The fire emblems games are really good too.
More recently (because I realize some of the mentioned games are considered ancient by a lot of people), I really enjoyed Steamworld Heist (one of my last year's favorite, I keep trying to get more people to give it a try), Darkest Dungeon, the Xcom reboots, Renowened Explorers (just got the new DLC and I plan to get back into it) and Invisible Inc and This war of mine, even though i'm not sure it classifies as strategy. I still have to play Shadow Tactics and Halcyon 6 which looked very promising, and I'm currently looking at Battle brothers that I haven't got yet but I had great feedback about from a friend.
Ugh, this turned out as a massive block of text, sorry for that. Anyway if you still have a spot for me in your group, I'll be really happy to join :3

I'd like to join! I've spent hundreds of hours in HOI4, Endless Legend, Civ V, EU4, and CH2. I hope to pick up Endless Space 2 soon.

I LOVE 4x games, been loving them ever since I was a kid (not even on PC :D ), and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with Warlock. It has been sitting in my library, waiting for my full attention, for quite a decent amount of time now, but when I tried it... Oh, boy :D Literally - Civ game with magic! I love Civ games too :D
I personally think Warlock is very underrated.
Either way, I'd like to join :)
Who knows, maybe I will even find a multyplayer partner in crime!

Already did, right before I applied :) Thanks for reminding me, though, and thank you very much for the invite! :)

rather edit:
I'd like an invite too. I prefer shorter RTS games for the time being, I still have trouble getting used to a civ-length of game, especially in multiplayer. Trying to get back into strategy games, with more or less success. I liked AoM and Cossacks a lot against AI, and played shittons of Heroes of M&M (2-5, most of the time with 3-4)

It has been 5 months of strategy games already! Time does fly so fast when you're having fun! I can't believe I haven't created a GA for a 4X game yet 0.0
Here is the giveaway. Lvl 1+
Change of plans, Stellaris is the early unlock in the next Humble Monthly, so if you already have the game or end up getting it from HB, we'd like to invite you to play with us! Here's the topic I'm not sure if you need to be part of the steam group to see, but if you can't open the link let me know and I'll try to fix it. Thanks!
Link to HB for the lazy
I'd also invite y'all to join our group for strategy enthusiasts and participate in our little community if you can enter the giveaway. (i.e. you're level 1, at least)
Just let me know in the comments below if you want an invite. Don't forget to tell us which strategy games you like/ have been playing / that kind of stuff :)
