I really don't think that's in the spirit of the website. The purpose of steamgifts.com isn't to give crap away. It really isn't, despite all logic. The purpose is to give and receive gifts to and from a good community, and to have fun while you're doing it. I think we have exactly that right now, and no real changes need to be made.

It doesn't really matter what you give away, you always get 50%. If you give away something valued 50 you get 25, if you give away something valued 10 you get 5. I don't think this encourages people to give "crap" away at all.
Giving something to the creators, while it may not matter much to the people who can gift 50$ games whenever they want (which is awesome), it may matter to someone who doesn't have the means, and be the motivation behind that "crap" giveaway of a 5$ game.
I understand that receiving nothing in return is part of the generosity that is at the base of this website, but I also believe that more giveaways mean a better steamgifts, and every idea who can raise the number of gifts should be considered.

In this case, I used crap as a substitute for stuff in general. Sorry for the confusion.

This is already in the works, check the thread Point System Update by CG.

Well, yes and no. Yes, there is a plan to reward contributors. No, what the OP is suggesting is not "in the works"- The reward system the OP is talking about and cg is considering is quite different; he wants the givers to get 50% of the points of the value of the gift while cg wants to give a certain number of points based on the level of interest for their gift, how unique it is to the site, and the overall value.
So the Op's suggestion would give 25 points for a dirt 3 giveaway whereas cg's system would give less when there is an AMD promotion and the site is being flooded with dirt 3 keys from the promotion. I think you were actually trying to say there is a plan to reward contributors though, am I correct?
Be honest, did you have a case of tl;dr? :D (jk)

CG's idea sounds better, shame on me for missing the post in which it explains it. The focus of my idea was, though, both on the reward and on "when the creator actualy gets the points". I totally agree with CG on the reward, mine was only a suggestion

Suggestions are always good. No need to be shy about them. I just like CG's idea better.

This can be exploited.
The best thing to do to reward creators with things outside of the giveaway like Special Icons and Flair for their profiles.

Muffins of course, just fill his profile page with muffins. Muffin background, Muffin Icon, Muffin Text, Muffin Popup's, w/ a midi player playing songs about muffins.

After reading through the forums for a while, I think I understand what the risks of rewarding the creators of giveaways are, but I also think that rewarding them would be a good incentive to make giveaways.
So, what about this: the creator gets 50% of his prize value (in points, obviously) when the winner reports that the game has been received. This cannot be exploited, given the random nature of who actually wins a giveaway, and could effectively reward creators! What do you say?
