Wait! Windows 9 is coming in April, Nvidia's new cards come out in a few months, making this the worst time to buy a new PC. Even if you aren't interested in the new product line, prices will drop. If you really need something in the meantime, buy a Chromebook or something cheap like that.

Yes. Black Friday sales will be a rip-off compared to what you can get in the springtime.

I won't have time to wait, this is for school, which I should be starting soon. I wanted to wait until the year was done until I start online school so I could learn to drive first, maybe get a deal on Black Friday for it,and a few other stuff. Problem is I'm not sure if online school will let you start at the beginning of the year.

Get a Chromebook, you'll save more than the $100 it costs.

They are actually making new laptop cards. They do with every iteration of desktop cards.

I need it for school, but it's online high school. I don't know which one I'm going to yet,so it IS possible that I could probably start fresh and early in the next year, instead of starting about a week late into a new semester this month. I'm not exactly sure how online schools work yet though. So I could maaaaaybe wait until Black Friday. It depends on my parent's,I'm not even sure if they are going to agree getting me a laptop.

For 500 dolla you will get shit. Detachable tablet like stuff is shit.
The laptop will overheat, fall apart, etc. At that price range the Lenovo B590 is pretty good, decently put together.
To be able to play games maybe you should save up for a lenovo Z510 with pentium processor and an nvidia 740M.
You have an other option too, go for a used business class laptop like an elitebook. Believe me it will last, not like the plastic crap you get for 500 dolla.

I'm looking for a good laptop, one that I can use for school. I want it to be sleek, light, and look appealing. Something I could probably customize. Windows 8 is preferred. Something I can use for light gaming, maaaaybe being able to play Source games on medium settings? I'm not sure how laptops are with gaming. I want to be able to use it for school,I'm looking at joining an online high school and I want to be able to use my own laptop. Budget is probably $500. Would be nice if it could also detach and be use liked a tablet.
