Hello.

I was curious about this matter for some time. I tried searching similar thread with no results. So, how do you enter giveaways?
Edit: Please, mention if you do run out of points. (And optionally at what point).

I have to mention, that I hide games that doesn't seem fun at all, looks terrible, are "blacklisted" genre for me, etc. So I only try to have giveaways for games I'd gladly try out and play.

Here's how I do (and I always run out of points):
Variant 1 - Complex
First I enter all wishlist games.
Then I search for discussions-hidden GAs or puzzles.
Next, I browse all public GAs, to search for Poland region only or smaller group exclusives..
Then, I enter GAs from highest level I can reach, but only those GAs that end in 8 or 24 hours (depends how busy I might be).
Logic behind this is, that if I won't be able to access internet, I will still have chance and games I really desire or found interesting enough.

Variant 2 - Simple
I only enter giveaways that will soon expire (less than 24 hours). Prioritizing higher levels first.
Logic behind this is trying to get as many giveaway entries as possible, to increase chances of winning.

Train is hidden behind simple puzzle and Jigidi (don't worry, it's below 100 pieces, I dislike having more to complete).
Road to Train Station
Train starts now with level 2+ and it ends 12 July, 15h CEST.

Train cargo:

  • !That Bastard Is Trying To Steal Our Gold!
  • David
  • 500 Years Act 1
  • Dark Shadows - Army of Evil
  • Luna Sky [L3+]
  • Insectophobia : Episode 1 (10 copies) Steam store page
    (from 10 copies => 1 is whitelist & group exclusive [L1+], 1 limited to Turkey [L1+] [because it's Turkish game], 8 limited only by levels - splitted into 2 for Level 3+, 2 for Level 4+, 2 for Level 5+, 2 for Level 6+)

Take care.

In what order do you enter giveaways?

View Results
First GAs of wishlisted games
First GAs that soon will expire
First GAs hidden on discussions
First GAs with multiple copies
First GAs limited to my region
First GAs from Steam groups
First GAs only for people from whitelist
First GAs that take higher amount of points
First GAs that have the shortest giveaway time (e.g. 1h flash GAs)
First GAs with low points cost (trying to get as many GA entries as possible)
First GAs of unbundled games
Other (not covered in options above)
I don't do it. I have auto-join script. / F_ck this poll.

The first page of SG-> wishlist -> recommended -> group -> discussion
Most of the time I use less than 10 points after the above progress.

First - group giveaways and than GAs with not a lot of people and higher level (10-200 people and 3-5 lvl). After that - giveaways with 1k-15k entries, these giveaways i use to store my points for further use, I just quit them when I see something with realistic chances to win.

Soon ending public GAs -> wishlist -> group -> invite -> high interest/regional/multi-copy public.
When I run out of points (happening rarely nowadays), I remove points from the longest running GAs and bookmark them (if invite only) for later re-entering.

Thanks for the puzzles and the GAs! :-)

Not everyone has "games they really desire" on wishlist. Some people just put most games they seem not-shitty there.
So you should have elaborate a bit ^.^
I have about 200 positions in Wishlist and usually there are less than 30 GAs for those games, and I don't run of points. But there are other games that are less interesting or known to me, which looks like fun, but not as much as wishlisted games ;)

You however are close to 900 (including F2P titles, some DLC, tons of pricey VN games...).
So it's hard for me to determine how many giveaways you attend to.

PS: I visited your profile and got sticker pack xD

Everything in my wishlist is stuff i have interest in playing >.>
If i spot a game in a bundle or in the Upcoming releases in steam i just add it to my wishlist .

I dont think i browsed the public GA page in over a year.

So yeah , by saying i just enter for stuff in my wishlist , thats what i mean :)

  1. Any private giveaways I stumble across on the forum and have an interest in (very rare, as I don't browse the forum religiously).
  2. Wishlisted games that I have a specific interest in or that rarely show up on the site.
  3. Other wishlisted games and wishlisted games that have been flooding the site due to bundles, &c.
  4. Group/whitelist giveaways I have some interest in.
  5. Games on the Recommended tab that I have some interest in.
  6. Other games not in the Wishlisted or Recommended tabs that I have some interest in.
  7. Giveaways ending in the far future that I will inevitably remove my entries from, in order to bank any remaining points if available.

I'm a woman of systems, apparently. :(

Why the sad face? For me, that's quite interesting system.
I don't really use "Recommended" part, as I prefer to use "All" and hide games that seems bad or not interesting ;)

In fact, point 3 reminded of me thinking "maybe I should enter GAs for all those HOG games, they appear a lot... if I win that, I'll get rid of entering it in future". Haha xD

Heh, well, it's not that I'm really sad about it or anything, it's just that it's the way I've used SteamGifts for a very long time, maybe even as long as I've used the site, but I've never really thought about or formalized it. It's obviously affected the ways in which I browse the site, it's likely even affected the userscript I wrote to add certain features to the site, but I've never really realized just how much influence its had on my use of the site, nor how strictly delimited each of the steps had become from the general guidelines I followed just based on my natural inclination.

  1. Interesting games ending soon
  2. Wishlist games within the next 6-12 hours
  3. Interesting games within the next 6-12 hours with high odds
  4. cheap games (1-3 points) with steam cards with high odds

My points are usually gone by #3

I 1st enter wishlisted GA's, then I check recommended and group and last I check the rest.
I only enter giveaways of games I am interested in actually playing and to this point I haven't run out of points to spend on GA's.

Wishlist GAs -> recommended. Once in awhile I check group and discussion GAs. I rarely run out of points, and usually when I do, it's because I haven't logged on in a long time and there's just a list of wishlist GAs waiting for me lol.

I mostly stick to the wishlist page, and am perpetually out of points due to my massive wishlist. So entering whichever has best ratio of entries to points, modified by how much I feel like playing it at that particular point in time.

  1. Wishlist
  2. Check Recommended games for games that interest me but not wishlisted
  3. Check GAs that will expire soon
  4. Look for discussion with trains

I rarely run out of points.
