THE GAME:
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (lvl 1+; closed)

THE PUZZLE:
s WAS
s WS
o AAS
J DDS
J WWDS
J AS
I AAS
L S
z WS
z WAAS
I AAS
J WWWS
L WWDS
o AAS
J WAS
z DS
I AAS
I DS
o S
J AS
J WWAAS
I WAS

THE HINTS:

  1. Once you recognize it for what it is, it's probably important to make clear that the first step is the one on the top, not the one on the bottom; also bear in mind that the defining (leftmost) character of each step will always appear in the middle (and in the same position as you see it written).
  2. The puzzle is divided into two parts: the characters on the left and the characters on the right. Try to type the characters on the right, line by line. What game do you play?
  3. The width is 5, the height is 7+4+7+7+4 (bottom to top). The direction is clockwise and there is one number in the code.
  4. Alexey Leonidovich Pajitnov.

My breakthrough was correct. All the subsequent hints have just confirmed that I'd got it, but I just cannot get the thing to work :/ oh well

one more questions. can you explain this a bit more "the height is 7+4+7+7+4 (bottom to top)"? is this the final height of the pieces? is seven the height limit or is it 29? why are the numbers separated?

Because you will end up with 5 characters

Will the characters be formed by the rest of the pieces? And my problem is that at one time if the limit is 7 the piece will fall in the middle because its movement to the left its blocked, but if it is a bigger height limit the piece will go to the left of the 'screen'...

The screen is 5 wide and 29 high

Thx! That what I was thinking too. If it was 7 the code wouldn't fit in.

If something goes too far left, you need to adjust the starting position or the rotation -- knowing the width should help you get these things correct. Actually the height of the screen in unlimited, the pieces should never bump into each other while moving left or right. 29 is the height of the result. I hope you'll work it out!

one more thing. the square starts in the 2nd and 3rd or in the 3rd and 4th lines? EDIT: because of "o S".

I'm sure you can figure this out from "o AAS" -- the piece can't move out from the screen and "o" will always start in the same position....

I ended up with 27...i guess we shouldn't destroy lines like in the game right?
