The Witcher 3 & Region Locks

when i got it from a russian seller the id was still NA-RU so i think my copy is fine, now that there is a only RU version i'm not sure if the game will have changes

Activate it immediately, if the game is in your library it wont get lock.
Or if it will get you can ask steam support to delete the game from your library and refund your keys, because there was no any warning about the lock.

there are sellers that offer a ROW copy for less than 10 keys man, just search deeply at steamtrades

I bought a RU copy for 7 tf2.
I hope it wont get locked else I have to buy a new one ;)
Nothing's certain but I think I'm safe. I dont think they will lock already activated copies.

I havent traded with this person before, but he/she has a lot of reputation, just ask him/her if the witcher copy is RU tagged or something before trading.

Same thing I have swapped TW3 RU and activated in July, and there gift dnt have red writing that said it was the Russian version.

Here is the thing. CDProjekt seriously deserves to be paid the full price. They are even giving you a 20% discount (if you own the previous games, 10% if you don't). The game will be amazing, there is no doubt about that. But if you buy a russian copy, there is always the risk that you'll get locked out of the game. It's not worth it.

I don't really get it, Witcher 3 is ru locked already.

Check steamdb for ru version: it has "AllowCrossRegionTradingAndGifting=No", that means you won't be able to activate it outside ru/cis (unless you use vpn or shit, which is against SSA). Already activated gifts (bought before this lock) should be okay, though.

Right now you can buy it from russian sellers. In steam. But later it will be region locked. Already purchased copies of game dont get changes later, cuz you buying Region-free copy of game.

i dont undertand this game,why they make pre-order almost 1 year before released?
Mostly pre-order game just take 6 months before they released.

It activated just fine for me. Can it block my access to it at a later date?

I have a invetore gift, it is not specified on the restriction of the region .....

On Dispenser.tf a ROW copy is going for as low as 7 keys.

Is that safe or not?

As much as some of you might be "steam elites" don't fret if your copy gets locked, you can activate the steam key on GOG for a drm free copy on GoG just like The Witcher 2.

so whats with that "License The Witcher 3 (41074)" version? Its not tagged as RU,is it safe?

The likelihood of the game being locked(after activating, that is) is fairly close to exactly zero.

Developers say no block TW3 http://www.pcgamer.com/cd-projekt-ceo-the-witcher-3-will-have-no-drm-0-zero-zip-nada/, so i think no block the game but i want know is RU Version have all languages.

As noted by Madjoki, there's been an update to Russian gifts. The game is no longer giftable/tradable in Russia unless they use an exploit to do it. However, those of us who traded for this game and ended up with a Russian copy, there's been a change on the SteamDB.

Now: https://steamdb.info/sub/47807/ is "The Witcher 3 RU OLD". This is what you have if you have SUBID 47807.

New copies purchased in the Russian store (https://steamdb.info/sub/54530/) have this: "The Witcher 3 RU Copy"

They're two seperate packages with different SUBIDs. The old Russian tradables have 47807. The new untradable ones have 54530.

If you have already activated the game, you do not have to worry about having 54530. They didn't change already activated copies. If you have one sitting in your inventory, I have no information on what to tell you as I dont know if unactivated copies have been changed. If you want to make sure of what you do have already activated, I posted steps to check via the Steam console in this thread.

My guess: They will add a "onlyallowrunin" tag to the new 54530 SUBID. There are a lot of people that have the 47807 RU Version and I doubt Valve or the dev will want to shut out a huge # of people and deal with that hassle, especially since the RU OLD package did not have the red warning writing, which I believe would cause issues if they shut someone out and there was no warning. My guess is those of us with the old RU version (47807) will be okay once the game is released.

I would advise against getting this game at all anymore via a Russian trader b/c there is an exploit that allows it to be purchased still and you won't know what you're getting until activation. I do not know if the new 54530 SUBID has the red region warning in inventory, in fact its probably impossible to get as a tradable anyway since it cant be purchased as a gift. The worry is if unactivated copies have been affected by this change.

Is there a way to find out the SubID before purchasing it? maybe after add it to the cart? I do usually buy steam keys from a chinese online stores, usually DLCs since they can't be region locked since main game is NA version. I am wondering if i can ask the vendor to show a screen shot that proofs which SubID keys they are selling?
