So today I graduated and I'm so damn happy. I'd like to share some of my happyness with you SG folks.

I received the Bachelor Degree of Cultural Mediation in Forensic Sector. Don't know if that makes sense but basically I am a translator with criminology knowledge, I work sometimes for the Italian Court.
My thesis was about the translation of Court documents regarding an hypothetical foreigner that committed a crime in my country, and as you know Human Rights Bill assures people to have a fair trial which means also documents in a language they can understand. I got almost the maximum mark I could have despite the commission trying to make my life hard

I know you're all here for the gibs so here you are:

Very cool. Good work. I've never heard of that line of work, although I can imagine that it must exist. Do jobs in that sector entail any legal mediation/advice, or is it purely communications-based?

It depends on the situation. Both victims and accused people need legal advice which has to be done by a lawyer, but you are the mirror between them. Despite the lawyer having proper legal knowledge, as a matter of fact it's the translator that makes the difference. People tend to trust more someone who speaks their own language.

Makes sense. I imagine that, as a defendant who doesn't speak the native language of the court, it wouldn't matter much if you had the best lawyer you could afford if the your interpreter wasn't able to facilitate accurate communication for you. Sounds like interesting and rewarding work.
