I've made too many positive threads. Time to look at shitty stuff! This year hasn't been entirely great. What games have really sucked and disappointed you this year?

Dungeon Siege III seemed pretty nice to me, not bad at all. Accurate graphics, decent game-play and interesting story, attractive female npcs... ^_^

Fable III was really a huge disappointment - love the Lost Chapters, however this was a total crap >_<

I'll stand by Fable III like I'll stand by Final Fantasy XII and Deus Ex: Invisible War. If you look at it as a Fable game then yes, it was sub par compared to the others. If you look at it as a third-person RPG, then it is a great game.

The best way to rarely be disappointed with games is to never compare them to any other game. I know, this is an extremely hard thing to do, but it is very worthwhile. Comparing any game to any other will automatically skew the results, because you will always view one as better and one as worse, and when you think of one game as worse than another you will subconsciously label it as "bad."

I would still think your giving Fable 3 to much room for error. Some Spoilers Below

It was simplistic (combat = button mash, morality is A or B not even a sliding scale or multiple choices), glitchy (The golden trail says go through this door, uh... now it says go back through the same door. And repeat.), illogical (randomly receives STD from unprotected sex in monogamous relationship after 4th time trying to produce heir) and down right lied to the player (You have 300 days left to rule! Did we say 300? We meant 165. Did we say 165? We meant that last time was the last day. Sucks to be you.)

It would have been a decent game if it was made 10 years ago, by today's standards I see it as very simplistic, linear and unimaginative.

I suppose Duke Nukem Forever.

I didn't actually buy it, I thought I'd wait and see what it was like. My expectations were very low, and it still didn't look like it was living up to them!

Yeah, I don't think that DNF should even count as a disappointment. I mean, is something technically disappointing if you never expected it to be good?

Don't base your decision to buy Skyrim on what you see in this thread (not that you shouldn't definitely wait to see what it's like before buying it). It's a bad idea to base your opinion of a 100+ (or 300+ as they advertise) hour game on someone who claims to have played it for 30 minutes.

I would agree here. The other games have been played thoroughly and been found wanting. Skyrim is yet to be seen.

Regardless of whether the Skyrim wil actually be good or not, I am pretty disappointed at how each new game in the Elder Scrolls series seems to have less features and more dumbed-down gameplay. If you just compare Morrowind to Oblivion, and Oblivion to what has been confirmed about Skyrim, we see features disappearing from game to game. Fewer armor choices, fewer weapons, fewer stats, etc. It's more and more becoming an action game in stead of an RPG, which I suppose is nice for the CoD kids, but bad for the actual Elder Scrolls fans.

If there's one thing that makes me sad about the future of gaming, it's the phrase "appealing to a wider audience", which is exactly what Bethesda keeps on doing.

Probably Dark Souls' online part. Its like completely broken and takes forever to join anyones game until near the end. I mean, the rest of the game is amazing, its just the online play that kinda sucks right now. I hear they're going to patch it or something though.

Also Deus Ex Human Revolution's ending was lame. Everything else besides the story and voice acting (which ranges from great to alright to so-bad-what-were-they-thinking bad) was awesome.

I think Deus Ex gameplay was lame. You work your ass out to take enemies by surprise, and then you get to a boss and have to shoot him down. For me, it ruined the game :(

I wish it didn't have so many modern shooter elements that are plaguing the games industry. Regen health and cover based shooting is always a snooze-fest for me.
It might not have been as long as the first or with quite as much depth, but it was a solid sequal.

Regen health and cover based shooting is only an issue in Human Revolution if you let it be one. If you're in a situation where you're stuck just sitting back and wearing down their health, then odds are there's another approach you can take. If there's absolutely no other approach, then odds are you did something wrong.

I'll admit that the boss fights did feel a little out of place. The first Deus Ex did have boss fights but spoiler there was always a way to avoid them.

The boss fights were lame enough, but the "push button, receive ending" bit was far worse, not to mention that the endings themselves were just stock footage with a lame voiceover and didn't really tell you anything except Jensen explaining why he made that choice, which is stupid as fuck because YOU MADE THAT CHOICE FOR HIM. Also the whole SUDDENLY CYBER ZOMBIES LOL part leading up to it was really bad and uninspired.

Seriously, DXHR is one of my personal GOTY candidates, but the entire final part of the game is terrible.

Right now out of the games I've actually played, Sword of the Stars 2 was the most disappointing. Luckily it's being patched like mad, so maybe in a month or two it'll actually be the game I expected it to be.

Runners up are Duke Nukem Forever and Dungeon Siege 3. I only played the demo for those so I didn't lose any money on them, but both are really bad games that put their franchises to shame. IF they weren't tied to their respective franchises I'd probably go easier on them, but comparing DNF to DN3D and DS3 to DS and DS2, it's obvious that their developers went completely retarded. I'm normally on the Obsidian Defense Squad since many people bash them for releasing buggy games, but apart from the bugs (which often aren't even half as bad as people claim) all of their games are really good. However Dungeon Siege 3 is inexcusably bad, especially the PC version.
