I'm going on holiday so I won't have my PC for 3 weeks but I want a good core android tablet game. I'm looking at either final fantasy 1,2,3 or 4. Which should I get?

FF I & 2 should be a good start if you like to play a retro game.
else play FF III & IV.

I enjoyed FF4 more than 1 and 2 (all of them were PSP remakes). Haven't played FF3.

Well why don't you start from FF1 and play through all of them? It would be a nice progression to see what elements came from game to game as the series advanced.

I finished FF1 like 3 years ago just to see what the game was like and played the originial version. Not very engaging in terms of story but the gameplay was still semi fun. Exploring the world, appreciating the game that started it all, having engaging and quite hard fights with certain mobs or special mobs.

Hard to recommend as none of the early games offer that much difference judging from the year 2013. FF2 of course was a minor leap in terms of sound, graphics and overall gameplay but the game is more of the same with a new story and now story driven characters. Of course if you are talking about the real FF2 as Europe skipped some of the series for some reason so FF2 in Europe was realistically FF3 in Japan or it went something along those lines.

So can't say that oh you should start from 1st, 2nd or 3rd as they followed similar concepts adding additional gameplay elements that built up to the 3d games.

America skipped. Europe didn't get any Final Fantasy until 7, if I recall correctly.

FF3 and FF4 follow the DS re-releases of the game and FF4 DS is more difficult than the original SNES version, while the older 2 use the SNES versions I believe.

I'd say go with 3 or 4.

Final Fantasy 3.
It's by far the least crappiest of the three.
You'll find yourself stuck/lost for awhile on 1 & 2 due to the fact they're early RPGs and lack a sense of direction of where to go next.

Final Fantasy 4 has a boring plot. I really don't know how else to describe the plot rather than boring. It tries really hard to be serious all the time, and it's just presented in a bad way. Same thing goes for FF7

Final Fantasy 3 at least has a fun job system.

This.

But to be honest, if possible at all, just go with 5 or 6, if you've already played them, play them again. Or Chrono Trigger, as it's within the same genre.

They really need to remake 5, one of my favorite RPGs of all time.

5 was great. Also Chrono Trigger. I really wish they would remake both.

Either 3 or 4. I played a lot of the 3rd one and it was pretty entertaining.

3 is the longest and most challenging but 4 has the best story. I would go with 4.

Final Fantasy III for the win. very little angst, story makes sense, Not to complex, not to simple, fun to explore, Musical Score was great, Class System, bonus boss was hard, Red Mages get pimp hats and so on. The DS version of this game is the definitive version IMO. Art was good and the characters were given personalities. My only complaint is that the characters were not expounded enough, but I guess that's what fan fiction is for.

Since you say for android go for IV+ sequel. IV comes from the best era of FF(snes), its the FF with more ports/remakes of all the saga, and with FFX the only ones with a direct sequel(no sure how it is since i never played).

IV and X(perosanlly hate this one) are really popular in Japan like VI and VII.
I Will not talk about the west preferences but for me, Snes era have the most complete FF games(and other RPGs like chrono trigger) without falling in the grindy Endgame that apeared in later games.

Never really played any of the remakes. But historically, I would say 4 is when they first got really good and playable.
I think I played a little of a remake of 2 or 3 once, and it was fun but quirky.

Definitely 4.
It is my all time favourite.

Get a psx emulator and you're able to play VI, VII, VIII, IX and tactics as well. Due to their turnbased nature they play incredibly well with the onscreen controls.

With the early games (especially I and II) I tended to forget whatever the hell I was supposed to do halfway through the grinding.

So go with III or IV if you must choose.
