Basically the site is about generosity, we don't gift to get anything in return. But, Maybe like 20% (or some percentage) of points go to gifter, regular 10% go to everyone else. Something like that.

Generosity is it's own reward.

You do get points for gifting.

yeah like cult said, you do get points. 10% of your gift's worth, just like everyone else. What you are suggesting would mean that most contributors would get rewarded more than they give away.

Stop trying to break this site, people. It's pretty damn fine as it is.

Honestly, I presumed that people gifting games got bonus on top of the original 10%... At least a 10% extra bonus would be expected...

I Agree. I am here only 3 days, but I noticed that in that time the number of Members raised about 1000. Unfortunately, the number of giveaways raised only very little, so it might be a good start to benefit the donors.

I remember seeing the site with 5 pages of giveaways about a week ago, now it's at 10. As giveaways are constantly ending, they're constantly being created too. The value of giveaways may have spiked a little recently too.

Anyway, I'll say that we have been discussing ideas of benefits for members; but what benefits we'll introduce and how any benefits will be distributed we have yet to decide.

i think that at the end of a giveaway, the poster gets a percentage of the points of the total spent by all the entries, maybe just 1% or something. Would encourage more submissions as well as spread the points around more. Could also mean that GLaPOS ends up winning everything.

Thats my opinion on that anyway

While an extra-points incentive would be kinda nice, I personally feel high, awesome, and generous when I do a giveaway. Granted, I've only done two, but they've both been really exciting for me. The average point cost of giveaways here have got to be around 7-10 points. The more giveaways created, the more points generated, and more giveaways entered. The system seems pretty balanced thus far. Just try to stick to entering giveaways for games that you really want... keeps your point total healthy.

It's true. I don't enter unless it's a game I love or want really badly, and I'm always at point cap.

I agree with the 'give gifters a small bonus to encourage gifting' crowd.

But it also have unintended consequences.. it also encourages submitted fraudulent entries to boost your own score. Eg the humble bundles showing up as frozenbyte bundles or dark messiah m&m multiplayer only submissions or just plain submitted things you never have an intention of gifting. Right now I guess it's not a big deal because it's not like the gifter is getting anything special for it, but if they were I could see them doing it with bad intentions.

If there was a way to reward gifters a little extra without encouraging people to submit scam/fake gifts I'd be for it but I can't think of one :-/

i think the nature of human beings is that they would give more if there was an incentive. I'm pretty confident we haven't evolved to the point where the eutopian ideal of giving for the sake of giving is the default behavior just yet, lol. I've done a giveaway because I felt like it was something every member should do at least once. Outside of that, the site is great and all but if I really have an extra $20 to donate to a worthy cause (assuming I'm giving money to "feel good about it") there's a long list of things that come before giving games away to kids who are obviously already well off enough to not only have a computer and internet access, but also the free time to play games!

That said, taking the moral high ground of "people should give to give" doesn't really hold a lot of credo unless you somehow can justify a middle class white kid playing portal is more beneficial than a starving kid getting clean water. So, like it or not, people will be more likely to submit gifts if they feel there is something "extra" in it for them. I like the whole XP idea that someone brought up the other day but it kinda got shot down by "that's not what this community is about" crowd. I guess time will be the ultimate judge.
