I have that problem reversed; I don't have anyone to tell what to do! (: I want to be a designer but to be one, I need to put a finished work in front of myself. And I want it to be a good one (not perfect, mind you because I know it won't ever be better than "good") but people around me doesn't have the same enthusiasm as me, to be a game developer and they just don't do simple things like a 3D model; always postponing and "forgetting"...
Lately I've been learning UE4 but programming (and art) isn't my strong suit. Design and writing is. And to most people, these two (design and writing) isn't something "special", anyone can do it and theirs are perfect... Soo yeah, I'm a bit angry when it comes to the people's assumptions about this.

Maybe one issue you may face is not being a fluent/native English speaker? This won't be an issue for games in your first language, but even from that paragraph your language is a little awkward/wrong words used, so if you're developing a game in English and want to be lead writer etc, it makes it more likely people will pick others over you.

Edited, better now? (: I wrote that hastily and angrily (and posted without proofreading) so yeah, there should be problems with it. But I (generally) triple-check everything I write about games.
PS: I am a translator, specialized in game localization by the way. (:
PS 2: And yes, English is not my native language. (:

there are probably several game titles where the main/head dev probably has no knownledge i programming and simply just the idea person..
I guess those would be some big game developer studios, smaller ones probably can't afford to have a guy specifically just for ideas.

i am a programmer too, i know that feeling of losing interest in a personal big project, my advice its to make small concept ideas or demos
Like.. i have an idea for a combat system, so i just focus on making that combat system, not making a game around it, see if it works, see if you can make what you designed.
good luck.

I feel your pain! I'm the other side of the same problem. XD The artist part, that is: never get around to actually doing anything concrete because I keep doing new concepts and re-writes and... A bit telling is that I've been doing a choose your own adventure game since 99? and have a story outline, about 20 chapters, 15 maps, a sketchbook of concepts, 0 finished artworks and stupid WWW-based mock 'demo'.

Hah, well, it's been 'forgotten' for years at a time until someone says "hey, remember that thing? I loved it! Finish it!" and then I go and do a tiny update and... Have had a lot of other 'game projects' since then. But some day, if I get that spark again and have the time, I'd like to finish it. It's a comic medieval fantasy mystery/exploration game in a similar style to Pratchett's and if nothing else, I'd like to have the complete story for myself. :)
The last game art 'project' I dabbled with was for 'Sugar, Sweets & Jam!' a month ago and during Christmas I started concept art for a... well, I don't know what it is. xD Mystery, supernatural, something, adventure game. At this point of design I'm not sure I still like it, but will see. It is a far cry from my original 'hey! I wanna make cute pixel sprites! for a Thing! any Thing!' craving but oh well. These things happen. Apparently.
One day I will finish a game. Maybe it'll be just 10 lines of text and 4 images, but ISG I will finish one.

You won't find a good artist until you have a good game prototype. Create the game mechanics first, make it work with ugly graphics and then start looking for an artist. Only when people see that you have a really bright and somehow implemented idea, only then they will join your team.

I get your point. However, I thought that if I created, let's say, a shooter game prototype, then artists who don't like that kind of game wouldn't be interested at all (I guess). More or less, the same would apply to 3D and 2D.
I imagined very few people would be interested in my proposal. If there were a lot, your suggestion would be very good. Anyway, thanks for the tip!

In fact, there are A LOT of artists who would like to participate in game development, especially young ones who will join your project for their portfolio. However, you really need to show them something you achieved within your project, so they get some trust in you. Check gamedev dot net forums by the way, you will probably find somebody there.

Hi everyone! I'm a game developer (mainly programmer, junior) trying to find his first job. I have a lot of free time, and I've been "making" some videogames. The problem is that I can't finish them! :( Basically, because whenever I get some things done, I change my mind and want to do something different; or sometimes I just lack the motivation to finish it on my own. There are other reasons, but I'm trying to keep this short!
Summarizing, if you are an artist and would like to develop a game, say so! I'll be truly committed to our project. I don't know how many people will be interested (if any), but the team would be small.
Let me know what you think. Thanks!
GA coming in the near future.
Edit: The GA is here!
Edit #2: Thanks everyone for your input!
