I was wondering if anyone here might be able to give me some suggestions for games I might like by looking at the ones I have in my games list and wishlist on Steam. I know that's a bit vague and my interest in the games on both lists is somewhat variable, but I'm kind of new and haven't played a ton of games yet to have an especially good idea of what I like the most. Lately I've been feeling like I managed to obtain most of the games I was most interested in though, and it's getting a little hard to find things here or on Steam that I really want. There are things I might like to get (some are on my wishlist), but gauging how much I might like them can be kind of tricky for me. And with the summer sale going on now, I don't want to miss out on a really good deal for something I might really like. I'm having a little trouble identifying such games though, so if anyone could help me out, I'd certainly appreciate it. Feel free to ask questions that will help you make better suggestions; when I'm online and have time, I'll answer them the best I can. Thanks in advance!

Edits: added links for all games list and wish list. Shorter version of info requested: not too big on RPG or tower defense unless mixed with some other genre; FPS -- OK as long as it has a good story line; puzzles are probably good; adventures are kind of a maybe. And in general, I tend to prefer single player games, or at least ones that aren't strictly multi-player.

Thanks. I have Sanctum already though. I won it here, actually. I've only tried the training bit so far, so I'll have to look at it some more when I have enough time. I've got Defense Grid, too, but haven't look at it yet.

Thanks. I've got it already. I've played it a bit, and it is kind of fun. I don't usually get very far, but it does seem like something I'll want to come back to and try more.

Do you have killing floor? It's awesome too!

That's a big 'ol block of text. Also a link to your wishlist would probably be helpful. But buy Metro 2033 if you don't have it. That game is so amazing it makes The Amazing Spiderman look like The Regular Spiderman.

Sorry, I figured you'd get there in a few clicks (SteamGifts profile, Steam profile, Games). I just edited the posts, so hopefully those links work right. Please let me know if they don't.

I don't have Metro 2033, thanks. I'll try to take a look at it.

Edit: I read that the requirements on that game were on the high end, so I checked, and it looks like my computer can't handle it. Metro 2033 will probably have to wait until I get a new computer, whenever that may be.

You'll probably have better luck if you provide at least a little bit of an idea of what you're looking for. RPG? FPS? Tower defense? Puzzle? Adventure? Single or multi-player? Etc. If gauging how much you might like a game is difficult for you, imagine how difficult it is for someone who has no idea what kind of gaming mood you're in, or how much you liked the games you've already played.

Yes, I realize that. I was hoping the two lists would provide a decent starting point, but maybe not. I'm not sure how many common genres there are, but I can comment a bit on what you listed. I'm not too into RPGs, though the concept of them is OK. If a game is a mix of RPG with something, it might be of interest. Something that's pretty much straight RPG might not though. FPS would probably be OK if there's a good story line that's going to keep my interest. If it's just running around killing stuff, I'm not sure I can stay interested. I'm not real big on tower defense games. They're OK, but might need a bit of a twist, sort of like Sanctum seems to offer. Puzzle games would probably be good. Adventure might as well. In general, I tend to prefer single player games, or at least ones that aren't strictly multi-player. From some games I have played, I generally like the Myst series (though parts could get annoying) and the Portal series. I started losing interest in Bioshock. And games I can basically play any time, because they don't have a real story line you have to follow, are generally good -- music ones like Beat Hazard, or puzzle ones like Q.U.B.E. Does this help a bit more?

Sure. Some random thoughts based on your comments:

Orcs Must Die - definitely fits the "tower defense with a twist" criteria. Third-person action. Shares some similarities with Sanctum, but more of a quick dumb fun (and I mean that in a very good way) vibe.

SpaceChem - I see this is already on your wishlist, but I highly recommend it. Really wonderful puzzle game. Difficult without feeling like you're running into a brick wall, and each level has dozens of possible solutions depending on how you like to go about solving things.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light - Kind of a hybrid puzzle and twin-stick shooter game, if that makes any sense. It's a hell of a lot better if you have someone to coop it with, though. Coop and single player use the same levels, with the single player versions simplified in a way that pretty much eliminates the puzzle elements. Still good, but I liked coop a lot better.

Geometry Wars - Twin-stick shooter similar to Beat Hazard, without the custom music and with fewer seizures.

Machinarium - I'm not huge on point-and-click adventure games, but I really enjoyed this one. Great visuals, too. I'd also recommend Gemini Rue, but it looks like you've already got that.

Chime - This is a good one if you want something that you can drop in and out of quickly. Sort of like speed Tetris; place blocks as fast and as neatly as you can in a given area.

And I'll second the World of Goo suggestion you received below. That was one of the games that made me love the early indie bundles.

And I'll second Lara Croft: GoL. I've given away a couple of copies and bought it for friends, great mix of shooter/action/puzzle.

Orcs Must Die too and Chime is indeed great for killing the odd 5 minutes here and there. The only one I'd advise thinking twice about would be SpaceChem; personally, I think it's very hard, but that might just be me. Pretty sure it has a demo, so try before you buy.

Oh, it definitely gets very hard. But I appreciated the way that even when I was stumped it wasn't like I was completely stuck. The fact that there's not a single, rigid solution meant I could sort of fiddle around with different options until I got something that looked like it might be part of a solution and then build from there. I can see how it might not suit everybody's tastes, but it really clicked with me.

Thanks for the suggestions and info on the games. I don't have time right now, but I'll try to take a look at them later.

My suggestion, based on your owning quite a few puzzle games and quite a few indie games would be World of Goo. 75% off, $2.49 on sale.

Thanks for the links (I edited some in, too) and the suggestion. I've heard that World of Goo is good, so I'll try to take another look at that. Puzzle games do seem to be something I usually like, as long as they don't get too frustrating. A lot of my indie games may have come from some relatively recent bundles, which I generally bought for a smaller number of games in them, picking up a number of others of less interest with them.

Although I'd never manage to follow this advice myself, I'd suggest that you stick to your game list. You have lots of games and have played little of any of them.

That's true, but the huge majority of my games have been obtained in the past 1-2 months. I simply haven't had enough time to try them all out yet. And some were obtained in packs that I really bought for other games in them, so some games are kind of low priority. But you do have a point. I still might buy some more games I'm interested in if they're on a high discount, but I don't intend to go buy too much. I do have quite a bit already. Thanks for the feedback.

With the summer sale nearing an end, I'm looking at what few other games I may want to get while they're still on sale. I've got most of what I want already, so I'm generally looking for what's still highly discounted (~75%) and relatively cheap (I don't want to spend too much more). A few I'm considering are Syberia, Syberia II, Still Life, and Still Life 2, which when bundled are only $3.74 a pair or $1.87 a game. These games seem to be similar in style to the Myst series -- travel around while solving puzzles to hear / figure out the story -- so I think I might like them. What do others think of these games? Would they be worth getting at these prices? Thanks!

Edit: Never mind. I was afraid of missing out on the sale tomorrow, since I have to work, so I decided to go ahead and buy these games. I would welcome additional game suggestions though. I can always add them to my wishlist for possible future purchases. Thanks!
