When I did my give away for FO:NV OWB DLC the price in the store was $9.99 and my contribution value reflected that. Now I look at my profile and my total contribution value has dropped. I was confused as to what had happened. I went to the Steam store and apparently the price has dropped to $4.99 now. Is it normal for your contribution value to drop because Steam changes there normal price for an item after you gave it away? Sorry if this seem like a dumb question but I am new to this site.

Hey, maybe you have a good amount of free time to change the site database to reflect all the prices a game had over time. Right now there is a single database of all the games with a price associated to it. There is no tracking of price changes over time. Would that be better, of course. Is that crucial, of course not. When CG has enough free time to implement this it will probably happen. Remember, you get all of this for free and the admins are doing this out of their own free time.

I don't think (or, I know) it should be a matter of keeping track of what prices WERE. It should be a simple matter of a X + Y = Z. Where X is your current contribution, Y is the value you just successfully contributed, and Z is your new contribution total. Not difficult and requires NO keeping track of multiple values, ONLY variable Z. This is just poor design, in my opinion.

yeah, and a little error in database and PUFF everything is gone cos there is no way to recover this ;)

But then essentially you'll get a bunch of stuff at 60$ because that how much it cost when it came out.

no, the contribution value at the time that you gave the game away should be kept, not changed to its current value. I don't believe it's that hard a thing to do.

Yes, it always reflect the current full price on Steam.

it functions this way right now. Hope it will be changed once, cause it is not how it should be in my opinion.

No, it only changes if the base value of the game drops or rises.

Then why is Orcs Must Die GotY still valued as $20 here?

I noticed that to. Funny thing is that the standard OMD is at it's new value of 10P or $9.99 USD

Because it's not an automated process and the admins didn't update the price in the database I guess.

That's actually stupid because if I buy a game that costs 30$ now and give it away my contributor value will be 20$. But suddenly prices drops to 15$ and my contributor value drops too. But I paid 30$ for the game. I want my 15$ back...

If the price was dropped before the sale they would be even cheaper during the sale.

Well, that means that this sale has even lower prices now. ;)

Of course, to anyone that got the game on the Steam sale, that's a big fuuuu!

Maybe something is wrong with my logic, but if you give away a game for which you have paid $10, your contribution to the community is $10 even if the price drops after some time.

In a perfect world, it would stay the same. But currently there is a single database with all the games and their associated prices. There is no history on game prices. Maybe at some points the mods will have the free time to put this in but it's not possible right now because of the way the site was built.

Unfortunately there is no way to determine how much everyone paid for each game. Sales, frequent price changes, many sites selling keys to Steam games etc.

Short of submitting a receipt for every game you giveaway.... and that is an awful lot of added work for the Admin's.

That's kind of weird, though. Wouldn't it be simple enough to set the Contributor status at a static value save for the upcoming changes instead of having the site recalculate the value of contributions every time you access your profile? I don't really understand it all but it seems like that places an extra burden on the site.
Or, perhaps I'm simply misunderstanding what's being said.

the funny thing is that i was talking about that ealier when someone said that the new system system is unfair to those who are giving away indie games cos you don't know if they wont be worthless as they might be in a bundle someday
