no, you can pick the booster for specific games, but different prices (in gems) for different boosters.

even the cheapest games are way to high, hell no, gona use money and know that ill get a game centanly buying it.

This is the only rational way of thinking about that. But, as Valve also know that you have to be stupid to bet 50€ worth of gems for winning a 10€ game, they've added a badge related to this mini event... if you win a bid, you win a badge. E-penis worth a lot for some people.

The swell chaps who have done the "cleaning out my inventory, send me a trade request" posts may be feeling sad in the pants right now.

I grabbed a bunch of cheap 100 gem emoticons so I'll probably turn that into a couple older games that have been sitting on my wishlist for a while

I get the impression that the later auctions will be more reasonable due to later times.

if we lose an auction, do we lose ours gems or do we keep them?

Its set up a little strange. There are 100 of each game and at the end of the first round, the high bidder for each game wins the game. 45 minutes later, the new current high bidder wins the next one, and so on. So if you're #2 and no one outbids you in the 45 minutes, you win!

I don't get it either, finally managed to buy 10, crafted some packs, easy profit

You've just got to try over and over and over. Because it processes them in the order they are received, and due to the amount of lag, its still processing requests from a while ago. Eventually, you'll be able to put in a purchase request, and then after a while it'll actually be filled (assuming gems are available for that price at that time).

I'm pretty sure the system can't keep up with the amount of buy and sell orders. so even though you've posted a buy order it likely wont happen for quite a while

I can't sell anything because the market is crazy! Made an pack from Vampires, this thing is expensive as hell!

I've made 2 dollars buying gems for 3 cents and selling cards i get from making boosters so far...
Now at 5 dollars
Buying gems is a major pain in the butt though. i've been somewhat successful buying 10 sacks at a time for 3 cents each.

honestly i just got sick of failing trying to buy one and instead kept trying to get a buy order for 10 just so i wouldn't have to go through it over and over.

It takes a lot of patience, and putting in bulk orders certainly helps. I have maybe 1 in 20 go through, and at least half of the ones that go through end up getting erased rather than filled.
But I've still done obscenely well. I'm at about 70k gems, with them at $0.03 a sack.

Agarest War was about 1.30 and Ragnarok was over a dollar also.

why should i trade cards for gems? instead of getting 12 cents per card, i can sell it and buy backgrounds and emoticons and sell them for 100 per piece
they diddnt think this through
edit: buying a sack for 3 cents =)))

Converting unused emotion and background for gems or selling them right now, it's too cluster in my inventory.
should I hoard gems or just use them right now?

Smart money says use them to buy booster packs right away. :) Once the market becomes flooded with more cards and booster packs the cards will lose value because people have 0 patience and will try to sell their cards .01 less than the lowest one on the market.

Guess I'll pack my gem for my friend to make Agarest Zero Booster or whatever high price pack!

Make booster packs, it seems like the way to go... I already made profit from only one booster pack, it's not that hard tbh

I don't like it. If this was a permanent thing I wouldn't complain but the fact that Steam wants people to buy cards like crazy or emoticon craft their own items to make gems is just a way to get people to spend more money than they are going to during the winter sale. And since you are only auctioning for a game and there is no guarantee that you will win the game seems like a waste of time and money to me.

I just bought 100 Sack of Gems for 3 cents each.Lel.Not sure if I should use them or sell them for profit later on.
Edit: Even buying and selling Booster Packs would grant me more than 20$ right now.But you can get 1 booster from each game every day, I'll try to sell as many as I can ^^

I would craft booster packs... look for the ones with higher value cards, you can easily use the 1000 gems for a 0.25 booster packs which is right now a lot of value.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah trying it right now but unpacking Sack of Gems by one at a time sucks.
Edit: After selling some boosters, "There was a problem creating your booster pack. Please try again later."
Lol, Steam ...

I'm trying to figure out how much money worth a "gem" but result is not satisfactory. For example, Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army cards, around $0.08 in Market worth 20 gems. By other side, Skullgirls cards, around $0.14 in Market worth 12 gems. That makes impossible to do any calculation.
So, Steam is playing with values of cards, probably making them worthless for us, and people who use big amount of gems on bids, most likely would be overpaying game retail price just for "winning a bid".
