Progress on no-fly zone

All 3 Baltic nations are now calling for a no-fly zone over Ukraine.
It's not likely going to happen anytime soon. But, hopefully, it may eventually happen.

i doubt that will happen. at least not until something "more serious" comes up like russia using chemical weapons in ukraine.
if you have a no-fly zone you need to enforce it if needed. otherwise it's useless. enforce as in nato jets shooting down russian aircraft.
at that point you have direct combat between nato and russia. a direct conflict between nuclear powers.
nobody with common sense wants that.

i know, bad news for ukraine and its people. and i don't like it either.
but sadly that's how it is.

Guess it's time to say a bit about why I post in this thread.

Hi, my name is Jan. I'm from Germany. We did quite a few of the worst things ever done to humanity. I learnt about it in school. I couldn't understand how it was possible. Until now. War is never justified. No war ever is. Maybe a war is the lesser evil, but it always is wrong. Russia blames 'the west' on sanctions while bombing Ukriane. There is no way to justify this.

There are no sanctions against Russia.
It's only a special economic operation.

Hoax caller claiming to be Ukrainian PM got through to UK defence secretary | Ben Wallace | The Guardian

These damage reports are probably the tip of the iceberg.
Similar practices may be taking place in many countries around the world.
Recent deep fakes seem to be increasing in number, ranging from poorly done to incomprehensible.
In the not-too-distant future, the credibility of the Ukrainian president's press conference via the Internet may be undermined.
Always verify information from multiple primary sources. Keep that in mind.

It appears that the President of Ukraine has decided to give a "live-streamed" speech on the 22rd (Japan time).
It seems that a recorded broadcast will not be made for various reasons.
(Maybe a deepfake measure?)

ウクライナ大統領の国会演説 22日にも実施へ - 産経ニュース
Ukrainian President's Speech to Parliament to be Delivered on 22nd - Sankei News
https://www.sankei.com/article/20220318-MZYJL4MMJFLWDAFCWOJRMAGO6I/

Although the speech will be addressed to the Japanese government, I am concerned about the content of his recent speeches to the U.S., which are not in line with Japan's understanding of history, as the number of people who do not want the speech itself has been increasing.
Recently, the Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine acted on Twitter without consideration for the victims of the recent major earthquake in Japan.
These have led to protests, especially on Twitter.📝
(In Japan, there are rumors that the recent earthquake was a pre-earthquake and that we are in the midst of a big one like the one 11 years ago.)
During this period, in collaboration with the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ukrainian Ambassador almost caused a problem by accusing the ruling party's foreign affairs officer by name due to a misunderstanding, which also caused a problem from Twitter and was later corrected, but in a bad way, attracting a lot of attention.📝
Some believe it had a negative impact on the ruling party in the next election.
Simply, the President and the Ukrainian Embassy are becoming a bit disliked.

It will probably be difficult to get a good response to the speech.

However, it will not affect fundraising efforts for civilian victims or fundraising/support activities for war victims.
So the Ukrainian public will not have to worry about it.

The reason I wrote this is because I thought some people would question the Japanese reaction after the speech.
Things happen for a reason.

Valve reportedly halts Steam payments to developers in Ukraine
https://www.nme.com/news/gaming-news/valve-reportedly-halts-steam-payments-to-developers-in-ukraine-3185466

Hmm...

Valve is yet to comment on the decision to halt payments to developers in Ukraine, though NME has reached out for a statement.

There seems to be at least several victims.

Valve has suspended payments to Steam game developers from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine - Digit News
https://digitnews.in/valve-has-suspended-payments-to-steam-game-developers-from-russia-belarus-and-ukraine/

Representatives of the Ukrainian Steam team posted on Facebook Valve’s “preliminary explanation”:

The US government has imposed sanctions and is blocking a number of banks that work with the Russian Federation or are somehow connected with it. “Therefore, it is physically impossible to make payments to these banks at the moment.”

Is it for the convenience of the U.S. government?

It was another large earthquake.

Humanity seems to be approaching a situation where a major fire spreading across the globe is inevitable.
In a recent story, which is not encouraging as a source of information, there was a leak from Russia that a country friendly to Russia was going to invade a neighboring country in line with Russia's actions.📝
Now that it has been leaked, there will be no real benefit from doing so.
However, I find it pathological that some human beings change when it comes to money and power.

We can only hope that this year's tragedy will end during this year.(ヽ´Θ`)

It's a staged event mostly. Given it's a 1/3 split in Russia it seems. 1/3 supports, 1/3 doesn't and 1/3 haven't made up their mind. But yes, there is support for this inside of Russia for sure.

And that's exactly the impression they want you to have. We call these events "putings" (fake meetings (rallies) designed to create an illusion of support towards Putin). I mean, sure, the support is actually depressingly huge, but these events don't show a thing. They were invented during mass protests in 2011-2012. The audience largely consists of employees of government organizations, and they are basically forced to participate. Yes, they are sheep (they don't protest against being used), but yeah, many people actually can't afford to lose their jobs. Still, my point is that the number of attendees is not a sign of anything aside from these people being weak.

Poland plans to submit a proposal at a NATO summit in Brussels next week for a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Friday.

Speaking at a news conference in Warsaw, Morawiecki told reporters that “at the next NATO summit, the proposal for a peace mission in Ukraine will be formally submitted.”

Support for sending troops into Ukraine is high, lingering at around 70 percent.

excerpt

On February 27, a website launched called 200rf Look For Yours, which claims to help Russians find out whether their loved ones have been captured or killed in the fighting. The name refers to the Soviet military code word, Cargo-200, used for flying corpses back from Afghanistan in the 1980s. It posts a stream of images showing Russian soldiers dead or in captivity, and then the footage is distributed between YouTube, where the videos of captured Russian soldiers are posted, and a Telegram channel, where the more gruesome pictures end up. The Telegram channel has more than 60,000 subscribers.

I'm honored to be on your list.
However, as I plan to purchase the bundle on Humble, I think I shall not enter, leaving those games to other people who need them more.

I guess many people are doing the same. That may explain the low enter number. :)
