I probably should not have read the books - I was expecting the Red Wedding since the season started. TBH I'm just glad Robb got so much TV-time, he's nowhere near as important in the books.

What happens to him, and the ensuing events are what really start the 'madness' that follows for the next 2 books (and I assume the other 2 yet to be released ones).

Still sad to see him go, was starting to like him (even though he made some rookie mistakes).

I've been waiting for this episode for a long time, it was gruesome and great. I mostly like this series because different from the majority of stories it is difficult to predict. It is a type of story were people build a structure and categorize groups of characters and then suddenly the structure collapses midway, oh George R. R. Martin you!

I have no interest at all in this series, then even Dorkly made a comic about it.
Could someone explain what's so special about this episode?
I won't mind spoilers at all, wouldn't understand much anyway.

Two major characters, ones that would be considered "main stars" in the show, both of which (one especially) are large fan favorites, were killed off last night, along with some more minor characters. Not just killed, but massacred in a pretty brutal fashion. Also, it happened in such a way that they were seemingly being built towards a future victory, only to be betrayed by some close allies.

To add to what Haborym562 said, the ones that died were both portrayed as the good guys in everything so far (practically everyone has their own agenda but you are lead to 'root-for' / morally support the ones who just died).

You were supposed to feel morally on their side because they have been the underdogs in the whole series - smaller army, young inexperienced leader, their home castle got raided & burnt, the bad guys have all the money & better soldiers etc. Having been the underdogs for the last 2 seasons and 9 episodes, they'd started to make a come-back and were winning battles and when they get killed, they were potentially gearing themselves up for more success. The acting in the series was (and description in the book) successfully gets you on their side and then they get brutally murdered hence the reactions.

The way George RR Martin writes, there is a lot of plot twists and at several points I just sat there and thought "What. No? No? What? You can't do that. What. No."

Tyrion, yes I can see why you support him - at least he seems to be working on his own agenda and kind of helping the country. Especially support him with the way he treats a certain 'someone'.

I was supporting Robb & the Starks up to the point where Viserys died then when Drogo died I jumped ship to support Dany. She was really just doing what she was told up till then, now she's a conqueror - Queen of the Andals, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons.

Expect the unexpected in the SOIAF series. So many characters and storylines to keep track of. The RW sets in motion some of the events to come. The next book should be off the charts for the unexpected.

I'm hooked on the series, have never read the books (yet), and my reaction was that my jaw dropped and I uttered, "Holy shit!" fairly loudly at about 4 AM in the morning (I'm a night person). :) Geez, still reeling over it.

And to think, I was just starting to believe that the story was fragmenting too badly and turning into another Wheel of Time snorefest. I guess at this point in his writing of the story, Martin did, too!

Just a TV show? It's a TV show. It's a good TV show based on a wonderfully written world. Ain't nothing wrong with connecting to well written and cast characters. What is this new age crap of "This is just a show" or "It's just a book hurr hurr". People trying to be macho? It's amazing we can experience these worlds and immerse our-selves to the point where we feel strong emotions. If anything it annoys me that people get upset about the gore and not the deeper implications and connections that happen there.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Fanatic much? "New age"? Really? It's my subjective opinion. I don't associate with anyone nor anything. Yes, it's just a tv show, it's artificial, it's all acting, it's all not real, it's all just entertainment. Yes, it's an amazing tv show but people reacting like those shown in the video is laughable to me. I appreciate a lot of tv shows, movies and video games but getting emotional over them and over excited is just... a huge overreaction.

Permalink

your subjective opinion is "i don't get too much exctited over TV shows".

and it's totally fine. What is not fine is the way you share this opinion with these people which is offensive.

For example it's my subjective opinion for a long time now that you are not very intelligent person - yet I don't go to your posts just to share it. (Maybe except for this one, where it's used as an explanatory point of view).

See, that's different. I don't offend them in any way. Being overly emotional while watching a TV show doesn't suggest that there's nothing wrong with those people.

You, on the other hand, suggest that I'm stupid. Simply. And righ back a'tcha, Zelg.

Telling someone "Come the fuck on" because of his personal opinions/feelings and then calling such a people "Some people... -.-" because of this doesn't offend mentioned persons at all in your opinion?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No. Maybe because I'm more distanced to everything than everyone else and some people (yes, I'm looking at you) are overreacting dearly. Why so serious?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In which case you post "I think TV shows are insignificant creations that shouldn't stir any emotions in anyone. I know this because I'm emotionally vacant and this is the better way to live. EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE." instead of saying some people overreacted. These people are engaged in the series while you are distant. Don't say "Why so serious?" when you lack the emotional range to be anything but.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I could say that if I wanted to convey that kind of message. What you wrote is something different than what I wrote. Emotions are good but screaming, jumping out of bed and just doing stuff with your whole body in front of TV is... laughable. I was taken aback by what happened to some extent but I didn't manifest it on the outside.

Maybe I've just seen too many tv shows and movies. So it's just another one for me. Good but just another one.

Permalink

They aren't overreactions if you ask me. The acting (and writing up to this point nicely reels you into to morally supporting Robb) so lots of people will have seen 'gore' and their 'good-guy' characters dieing.

In other news, it's really obvious who had read the books. That guy with popcorn who just sits there like "Lol, don't even care" and then later the two in the middle look bored-as-fuck. Especially the girl.

Woah! My mouth was hanging wide open at the wedding. I had really hoped Arya would finally get back to her family, but no luck :( Can't believe that half the cast has just been killed off now. I was really shocked to see Cateyln die, at least she's with Ned now.

Figured it out later but still, even not realizing it right away, it was so obvious something baaaaad would happen. Paused for a few minutes and then watched it. 10/10 will watch again (even if it seemed quite shocking as I didn't expect THAT, at first).

As they closed the doors the really attentive watchers will have picked up a little hint (and I guess that's you noticed): The musicians start playing 'Rains of Castemere' which is a Lannister song about the Reynes of Castemere and the time they crossed Tytos Lannister and how he killed them for it. Catelyn Stark notices it, hence why she looks round.

Queen Cersei explains the meaning of the song to Margaery Tyrell earlier in season 3.

In the last episode. And the song played in the episode before that, Thoros sang it earlier this season, Bronn and co sang it in 2x09, then it played in the credits, and Tyrion whistles it early on in Season 2.
