Is there a reason to live if your PC died?
If it goes away when you hit it some then I m guessing it's something with its spinning mechanism.

Its only 3 years old, but it has been dropped accidentally and that corner is a little bent. Its been ok like that for a year now though.

This should help.

probably have a build up of crud on a fan blade making the fan run off balance, likely been like this for awhile and the barring is now loose, while you can try to oil/clean it and buy yourself some more time, but if your going to have to take it apart anyways i would just order a replacement fan and be done with it:)

it happened to me once or twice after opening up the laptop for cleaning. Thing is I unscrew and screw back a metal plate on top of the fan, and then the fan would hit the plate -.- (mine has only 1 fan, you might have more). So you can open it up in order to void the warranty and fix the annoying problem by tweaking the screws.
I love the fact my laptop takes 5 seconds to open up and has no screws on the under-lid :D most laptops are all screwed...

When I had a craptop it used make an awful sound and punching the crap out out of it worked for a while, but soon it wouldn't stop the horrid sound.
So any way I took it apart several times and cleaned the fan ext out and found nothing out of place i assume the bearing had gone so bought a cooling mat for it and that didn't work either so i throw it away.

Mine started making a constant clacking noise over a year ago. Couldn't figure out wtf was wrong with it and I couldn't open up the laptop either... I tried but I honestly didn't know how do deal with the panels being stuck to the keyboard and touch pad so I was too scared to continue ._. Also, shipping it to ASUS was a nono since shipping + parts + service fees all together would come to over $300 (ew). So I just lived with it. Then my fiance, smart man that he is, hit it when it was making the noise and it stopped.... not cause it was fixed but because it just broke entirely. I didn't want to get a new laptop so just bought a cooling pad and a heat extractor and ran both on it. They do a great job of keeping it cool. Then one day, like 2 months ago, the internal fan just magically started working again. I have no idea why. I was just playing a game when I suddenly heard that clacking noise again. So... it's no longer broken but it's still kinda broken :(
Yeah, I know, this doesn't help you at all but I just wanted to contribute to the laptop fan bitching thread :D

+1 to Tumalu's post. Also, get rid of any dust/dirt that's no doubt accumulated on it and can't be removed with simple blasts of air.
Alternatively, see if the fan itself can't be replaced. Sometimes it's very simple part to swap if you can get at it easily. Messed with lots of fans replacing them in a piece of music equipment I have that needs fan cooling -- sometimes there's just a bad one in the batch and they'll all wear out eventually -- just make sure that if it when it's silent again... that it's not because it's not spinning at all anymore -- that would be bad,

I have an older Dell Inspiron laptop that is on its third fan now. It is eight years old though. I get replacements for under $5 on eBay but it still takes a couple of hours to replace it. I think manufacturers have always treated a laptop similarly to a cell phone and they expect the user to replace the entire unit every two years or so. You've already got an extra year out of yours so I guess now it's time to decide whether it's worth spending time and money to fix it before it totally dies or just replace the laptop. If you are good with tools it may be beneficial to attempt replacing it yourself if there are still fans readily available and cheap for it.

If you listen carefully you can hear it telling you to sacrifice it to the desktop gods ;)

Giveaway has ended, before you try it.
Turns out a friend of mine works at the local Best Buy and the diagnosis is that I need a new fan. They will get it installed for me once it arrives, but until then its working fine. It just sounds awful.
